Chapter 5 Aurora

I still couldn't believe what I had just heard. If we broke even one out of the three rules, Alex was going to lose everything and I would have married him for nothing.

"Are you sure my father told you that? "Alex asked

"Yes, he wanted to tell you himself but he wasn't able to so he made me do it."

Alex closed his eyes and began rubbing his forehead. I didn't know what to say so I just stared at the floor.

"Can you give us a moment?" Alex asked and the lawyer went out of the office.

"What are we going to do now?" he asked

I was so glad he had said we because we were in this together.

"Well, living together isn't going to be a problem. I'm not going to cheat on you so you can be rest assured about."

"That leaves the issue of the kid." He said

"Well, we can't fully control that, can we?"

"But we'll have to try or we'll lose everything and I won't be able to get you your own bakery. "

"One step at a time please. " I said

I was already feeling overwhelmed by everything and I was struggling to breathe.

"Okay, one step at a time but first you have to move in with me."

"Now?"

"Yes. Is there a problem? " he asked

"Yes. I still need to discuss this with Lily. She can't afford the rent on our apartment alone."

"Would she mind moving as well? We could get her a place of her own close to where we're going to live so you two can still see each other as often as you want. "

I was too shocked to speak. This had been what I had worried about the most and it seemed like he already found a solution before I could talk about the problem.

"Don't worry, you two can visit each other anytime you like." He added and I hugged him.

I hardly ever had anyone think of me this way so I was really grateful for it.

"I'll have to discuss with Lily but I appreciate the offer." I said

"No problem. Let me know what she thinks. Also, I want you to see our new house. You don't have to move in right away but I do want to show you the house if you don't mind. Do you?"

"Of course not. In fact, let's head there right now." I replied

I couldn't believe I was excited to move in with a man I had barely known for twenty four hours.

We went to our new house and the view was absolutely breath-taking. The house had a pool and a Jacuzzi which was something I had always wanted. There were about sixteen different bedrooms in the house and I almost got lost but thankfully Alex found me.

"This house is really beautiful. " I commented

"I'm glad you like it since you're going to decorate it."

"Really? I can do whatever I want? "

"It's your house my dear. If you want to throw out all the current furniture and replace them, I won't stop you. Just let me know how much you need. I'll pay for everything. You are my wife now so you can get whatever you want."

It was hard to believe that any of this was real. I kept feeling like I was going to wake up soon and realise that it had all been a dream. I pinched myself and realised that it wasn't a dream. This was real.

"I want you to meet Lily." I said out of the blue

"When? "

"She's free tomorrow. I'll let you know the time."

"Great, I can't wait to meet her."

"I'm really sorry about your dad." I said, taking his hands in mine

We were sitting outside on the porch after checking out the entire house.

"I honestly wasn't expecting it. I knew it was going to happen eventually but I wasn't ready. I miss him even if he wasn't exactly the best dad."

Well, you definitely got that part right.

"Is it okay if I rest my head on your shoulder? " he asked and I nodded

He placed his head on my shoulder and I smiled.

"I'm sorry if I'm bothering you but I'm going through a lot right now and I just want someone to lean on."

"Well you have me now." I said

"But you don't even know me."

"We'll get to know each other better as time goes on."

"True. Is it okay if we stay here a little longer? I don't want to leave now. "

I wasn't sure if I still wanted to stay because I wanted to go home but I could see how dejected he looked so I agreed. I was starting to do things that were out of character for me.

"Can I ask you something? "

"Sure, what is it?"

"Yesterday, why were you at the courthouse? I have to admit, I found it strange that you were there, dressed the way you were."

I didn't want to tell him the truth. It was a part of my life I didn't want to share with anyone except Lily since she was there when it all began.

"I don't know if I'm ready to talk about it yet. It's not something I'm proud of."

"I know but you can talk to me. I promise I won't judge."

"Okay. So what happened was that I was engaged to be married until three weeks ago. My fiancé and I were supposed to get married at that courthouse but he never showed up. I waited and waited until the court closed for the day. Everyday since then, whenever I go out for a walk, I always find myself in front of the courthouse. The only way I could avoid it was by using other means of transportation. Yesterday, I went out to get groceries for the first time in while and I ended up there again which was why you found me there in the first place. "

"Honestly, I wasn't expecting that response at all. I thought you were waiting for someone or something. "

"I want to ask you something as well, if you don't mind. "

"Ask away. "

"Why did you choose me? I mean you're a billionaire. I'm sure you could have any lady you want. "

"Honestly, being a billionaire has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that I can afford whatever I want."

"And the disadvantage? " I asked

"People spread all sorts of rumours about you. It's terrible for my image if people keep assuming that I'm something I'm not."

"I completely understand how you feel."

"Do you want to leave now? I'm sorry for keeping you this long. I just really enjoy your company. "

"Thank you. Do you mind if we grab something to eat? I'm starving." I said, getting up

"Sure, what would you like to eat."

"At this point, I could eat anything. "

We grabbed some burgers and fries from the nearest McDonald's we could find. Turns out that Alex was starving as well. We rested for a while after eating before he dropped me off at home.

"I'll see you tomorrow. " he said before he drove off

I waited until he was out of sight before I headed up to my apartment. Lily was there waiting for me.

"Where did you run off to this time?" she asked

"Alex wanted to show me our new house after my shift so that's where we were. "

"I still can't believe you're moving out."

"That reminds me, Alex wants to know if you would be willing to move out of here to an apartment close to where we are going to live. He wants to get you your own place. What do you think?"

"You mean that I can move out of this crappy apartment and live close to my best friend? My answer is yes. Let him know before he changes his mind."

"Great, I'll tell him as soon as I get out of the shower. "I said headed towards my room

"You're the best."

I texted Alex as soon as I got out of the shower and he sent a 'thumbs up' emoji in reply.

"I almost forgot to tell you. Alex wants to meet you. "

"Me? When? "

"Tomorrow."

"Tomorrow and don't tell me you have plans because I already told him you were available tomorrow. "

"You mean Alexander Kingsley is coming to our apartment tomorrow to see me?"

"Yes, is there a problem? "

"No, not in the slightest. I need to find the perfect dress for tomorrow. I'll see you later." She squealed and ran into her room

I just smiled at her because she reminded me of my younger self.

The following day we got ready for Alex's visit. He called me as soon as he got to the apartment. I went outside to let him in.

"Come inside. I can't wait for you to meet Lily. Lily, he's here."

"I'm coming." She replied

She came out a minute later.

"Hi, it's so nice to meet......You?"

"Lily? You're Aurora's best friend? "

I was stunned. What was going on?
