Chapter 3 Scandal

"You wretch! You dare push my pregnant daughter in law?"

Leticia asked and immediately landed her hands on my neck.

One thing with Leticia is that she'd always get physical. Hardly did she have any altercation with anyone without trying to lay her hands on them.

I learnt that her late husband would mock her for not always managing her emotions like a wealthy woman that she was.

Before I could say a word, her large hands cupped my neck and drew closer to her.

"I didn't touch her. I swear!"

I struggled to speak, barely recovering from the shock of Selina's drama.

"So this is the length jealousy can make you go?"

Leticia's voice came again, and when she tried to hit me again, I blocked her hand.

I saw her eyes widen in terror.

It must have been a shock to her, but I didn't care anymore.

I was so sick and tired of them treating me like I was trash.

"How dare you!"

Leticia's voice roared with her hands, moving to my face.

But Oliver's voice scratched, interrupting her.

"I need help here, mum!"

His voice was cold and broken.

Everyone rushed to Selina and assisted Oliver. Shortly the ambulance came.

I followed them from a distance to the ambulance, because I couldn't help but get worried if Selina was truly injured.

She had remained unconscious all that while and even though I wasn't the one that pushed her, I couldn't help but worry.

Shortly after she was rolled into the ambulance, our eyes clicked.

She rolled her eyes at me, giving me a terrible smirk.

"Wait! Did you guys see that?"

I bluffed, pointing at her for everyone to see.

But she had gone back to her present pretense like before, while everyone looked at me like I was crazy.

I guess I was the only one that saw her move her eyes.

I scoffed, dragging my legs back into the house.

Selina was pretending and there was obviously no reason to remain outside.

And even if she was injured, it would have been deserving for her.

I was only a bit worried because I didn't know how I'd clear my name if she was deeply hurt.

I quickly dashed into my room and locked the door. I began to pack my belongings while I waited for the drama to be over.

Finally, Oliver joined the ambulance while Leticia and Sane drove behind them.

"I'll leave and come back to sort things with my husband."

I muttered to myself with heavy eyes. I still couldn't believe all that was happening.

******

My hands clumsily pressed the bell button again after checking for the fifth time that I was in the right apartment.

I tapped my feet to the floor hurriedly, waiting to be received.

I had stood there for over ten minutes waiting for Laura to get to the door since she wouldn't take my calls.

Zane opened the door instead, almost immediately after the fifth ring.

His face was tightened into a scowl, and I didn't know why.

"Hi, where's Laura?".

I blurted, while trying to bring my luggage closer to him to help me with.

"I'll call her." He said, and tried to close the door.

"Wait, we're getting inside together, just help me in, I'll meet Laura inside."

I said, while pulling my luggage closer, not quick to notice the growl on his face.

But he took another distasteful glance at me, "I'll call her for you."

He growled again and jammed the door to my face.

Just then it occured to me that Zane was actually giving me a cold shoulder.

"Have I done anything wrong?"

I muttered sadly to myself as I stared at the closed door before me.

Laura came out immediately and rushed to hug me, "my darling, I heard what happened. I'm so so sorry. "

She was almost crying, leaving me to wonder what could be the matter.

"What happened where?"

I asked, feigning ignorance. Yes something happened but I hadn't told her yet.

"That Oliver divorced you."

"Yes.."

Holding her tightly I stared at her to tell me how she got to know.

"How did you find out?"

"Sane posted it on Instagram, I'm so sorry my poor friend. "

"Wait? Sane did what?"

My eyes rolled as I remembered that I had seen her recording.

I didn't pay much attention to her, and I never thought something like that would come out of her holding her phone to record.

"Tell me you're kidding Laura."

I growled as I took out my phone to check my Instagram.

And as soon as I turned on my internet connection, my phone started buzzing with notifications.

"Dr Oliver divorced Dr Gwen!!?"

"Omg!!! Seems like there's trouble in paradise."

"I told you Dr Oliver is too hot for that average looking Dr Gwen. I mean she might have the brains, but she doesn't look like who should bag such the hottest doctor in Chicago."

"Dr Gwen pushed a lady down the stairs? Didn't know she was such a cruel and vile human."

I stared at those messages, tears flooding down my cheeks as I scrolled through Sane's comment section.

Bloggers and news stations have carried the news too, while some crazy lovers of Oliver had already made it to my dm, threatening, and mocking me.

Laura snatched the phone off my hands. Gently, she pulled me to the love garden beside the house and made me sit.

"Come here." Placing my head on her shoulders, she began to console me, but I cried harder.

"Why would Sane put such a thing--"

"No, no, Gwen, I won't let you wail over that spoilt brat. She's not relevant as long as I am concerned. What we should talk about now is how to get you back to your feet."

I nodded at the words of my best friend, but if only it was as easy as she said them.

"But I didn't push her, Laura, I know you believe me when I say, I didn't even touch her. She just rolled down the stairs herself just to create this drama."

I whimpered slowly.

Laura took me closely, "I believe you Gwen, trust me you don't have to explain a thing to me."

"Now she made everyone think I'm capable of such a vile act, and you know it's not good for my career."

Laura just nodded sadly. Obviously she has sensed the implications of those accusations on my career.

I'm a doctor and there was no way my patients would feel comfortable with me if they're made to believe I was capable of pushing someone down the stairs.

"Listen, Gwen..."

"Laura, and I don't look that bad right?"

I whimpered again, while referring to the penultimate comment I read.

"I'm a 5'7ft tall lady. Slim and curvy in the right places.

I have amber-brown coloured eyes with blonde hair which I always pack into a ponytail.

My face is chiseled too, Laura, how do I look terrible?"

Laura just ranked her hands over my hair, "Gwen, we should be more concerned about where you're going to stay right now."

"What do you mean by where I'm going to stay?"

I lifted my face to look at her, and her face wasn't encouraging. She was shaking her head, almost scared to mention what she wanted to say.
