Chapter 5 What to believe and not to

~Ralph's pov~

"I don't have the time to engage in any conversation now, Caramiel." I said, brushing past my sister but she followed. Closely behind me.

"I heard everything you and father talked about the cursed lady," she blurted. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned to face her.

"What did you just call her?" My voice came out hoarse and the look on my face made her flinch.

"Holl-up. That didn't come from me. Father said it first," She backtracked quickly taking two steps away and raising her hands in surrender.

I glared at her, jaws clenched.

If she wasn't my little sister, I might've slapped the nonsense out of her. My eyes said everything I refused to voice. Without another word, I turned and stormed towards my room.

"I didn't mean it like that." Caramiel pleaded slipping inside before I could shut the door in her face.

"But you need to be honest with yourself. That woman is not Mira. You've mistaken her to be Mira,"

my chest constricted immediately I heard her and I shot her a deadly glare.

How could she vomit such rubbish from her mouth. What gave her the nerves.

Despite the warning in my expression, she stepped closer and held my shoulder.

"This is your head playing tricks on you brother. You want so badly for her to be Mira you're ignoring the truth. Something tells me they are different people,"

My body went rigid.

"Don't say what you don't know," I said and removed her hands from my shoulder. She was trying to blackmail me emotionally.

From the onset Caramiel has never approved of Mira, I wouldn't be surprised if this was her way of trying to get rid of her once and for all.

"Listen to your inner voice, bro. Don't let your obsession for Mira cloud your sense of reasoning. Look at the broader picture," Caramiel's voice rose a notch I almost gripped her head and slammed it on the wall.

"Then how the hell do you explain their exact body physique?" I barked the chaos in my head boiling over.

"It's not impossible for two people to have the same build. But their personalities. That's where the truth lies!" Caramiel shouted and my thoughts went back to the night I saved her from the fire accident.

Her face had been unrecognizable from the burn but I felt something then. A pull I couldn't explain. It felt like we've had a very deep connection before. The same feeling I always got when I was with Mira.

It was... Irresistible.

Caramiel looked at me as if I was insane and I hated it. "I don't want to talk about this issue anymore. I need to be left alone," I said and pressed my temples.

"You didn't do bad saving her life her life anyways but you just need to get rid of her before she causes more harm to you," she said more calmly now.

"I will leave now. I think you need space to process this whole issue. I will be in my room," she said and then I heard a soft thud from the door when she left.

My head banged with many thoughts immediately Caramiel left me in my silent room.

Everything didn't just make sense to me.

I never imagined things would get to this extent.

F*ck! I bellowed and clenched my hand tight before walking over to my wine cellar.

I grabbed a gin and poured it into a glass cup before downing it at a go.

The liquid passed through my throat and I groaned at the burning sensation.

It was harsh and quick but the slight discomfort from it couldn't be compared to the torrents of emotions that gripped my throat.

I felt a migraine shoot to my skull and held my head instinctively. Then, a thought struck me. Fast and clearly.

"Fuck. Why didn't I think about this earlier," I said out loud.

I yanked my phone out of my pocket.

I scrolled through my contact until I saw doctor Lemuel's number. I dialed it and it started ringing.

He picked almost immediately. "Hello Ralph,"

"I need to help me with something," I went straight to the point skipping any form of pleasantries.

Doctor lem's voice switched from casual to serious "What's wrong Ralph. You should be in New Orleans by now,"

"I am but there's a situation I need your expertise with ."

"Hmmm. What's the problem. Is it about your Fiancee?" He asked and word fiancee hit me hard.

I completely forgot I'd lied to him that she was my fiancee. That was the only way he approved of her when I brought her to his hospital, and he went ahead to perform the series of surgery he did on her.

"Yes," I said reluctantly. It's about her" the word fiancee awkwardly became heavy for me to mention.

"Talk to Me. What happened. Has she regained her memory?" Doctor lem asked, concern dripping from his voice.

"No. Not even close. I need you to pull up a photo of her original face before the facial transplant."

Silence followed my words.

"Doctor Lem. Are you there?"I prompted

"Yes Ralph," he responded almost immediately.

"I'm here," he said finally " But I'm confused. You said she was your fiancee. Why are you asking for her real face now?"

"It's complicated Lem. Can you get the image or not?? I'm running out of patience as we speak."

"Actually I can but it will take 48 hours to achieve that."

"Make it 24," I ordered. "I need it before sunrise tomorrow."

"I'll try my best, just know the result might not be a 100% match."

"Okay," I replied.

I didn't need perfect.

"I'm still kinda -" he wanted to say another word, but I hung up immediately. What he wanted to say next didn't matter to me as long as I could lay my hands on anything that'd prove whether the woman I rescued was Mira or not.

Now that I have thought about it.

How did I even get here?

What made me believe she Mira in the first place? Enough to fly her across the country, pay for surgery and nurse her back to health.

Was it the strange pull I felt for her?

Yes I was glad I saved her but what if she's not who I thought she was.wnat happens next?

I groaned, poured another glass of gin and knocked it down.

I had another glass, and another, and a fourth. Then a fifth before stumbling my weak body to my bed
