"I didn't do anything wrong," I said. "We didn't even talk today. I haven't spoken to her in a long time."
"Last Friday, you pushed Lila, and she got a scratch on her knee, simply because she took your book," he said, pausing to look at me with his hands on his spectacles, his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"I don't understand why I'm the one who has to remind you of what you did," he continued. "That's why I need to talk to your mom. Every time you do something wrong and end up in my office, you claim you don't remember. I'm starting to think that what they're saying is true – that you're a bit weird.
"I do recall Lila trying to take Jayden's book from me. "I never knew I pushed her. All I knew was that I went home that Friday. That's all I can remember."
I know it wasn't me who pushed Lila – it was my wolf side. That's why I didn't want to associate myself with anything involving Lila; she's too annoying for my wolf's liking.
"Give this to your mom," Mr. Christopher said, pulling a letter from his drawer.
I took the letter and placed it on the table closer to me.
"It won't happen again, sir. I'm sorry."
"You can leave now. Thank you, sir."
As I stood up to leave, Mr. Christopher added, "Your mom was one of my favorite students – intelligent and smart. I don't know why you're not like her."
I wasn't offended when he compared me to my mom; it was something almost every teacher said to me, so I was used to it.
"Try to take your studies seriously, okay?"
He added
"Thank you, sir," I replied, closing the door behind me.
As I walked back to class, I heard Jayden's voice behind me. "Hey, Mia! I overheard them saying you were called to the principal's office, so I decided to come check it out."
"I'm good," I replied. "It's just some minor issues, and it's been fixed."
Jayden walked up beside me. "How long have you been standing there?" I added, "Not long."
"What's that on your hands?" he asked, trying to grab the papers.
I placed my hands beside me, stopping him immediately. "Excuse me, if you don't mind," I said and walked away.
Jayden can't be my problem. I'm never going to involve myself in anything that will take me back to the principal's office or bring your mom to school. My mom clearly warned me to avoid trouble because I know who I am.
I walked back to class, quieter than usual. I want to be like everyone else, but whenever I remember I have a white tail, yellow eyes, and elongated teeth, then I realize I'm the odd one. It's becoming worse these days because of my 18th birthday and my full wolf awakening day.
My ears are becoming sharper than usual; I can hear every sound, even the tiniest. It's becoming very hard because I find it difficult to concentrate. "Calm down, Mia," I whispered to myself, clenching my fists.
Heaven knows how hard I'm trying to control myself, but the more I try, the more irresistible it becomes. I held my hands over my ears in an attempt to block the noise.
"Will you all shut up?" I yelled at them. The whole class became silent at once.
"What's wrong with you, wolf girl?" Lila said. The whole class turned to me, murmuring among themselves, "What's wrong with her? Is she okay? She's always weird. I think she has brain damage."
"That's true," someone added. "I even heard she doesn't remember most things she does."
I couldn't take it anymore. I ran out immediately, and went straight to the female bathroom, I needed some space. I went inside, closed the door behind me, leaned against the door with my back, and began panting and gasping for breath.
I squat on the floor, thinking about my whole life. Why is my life so different? What was my past life like? Did I offend anyone? I hate my life so much, or the fact that I can't do anything about it. Imagine sleeping in your bed and waking up in the woods - that's what my life was actually like. I didn't realize I was crying until a knock came with a voice, "Mia, Mia." Are you there?
I stood up immediately, cleaned the tears from my face with my hands, and looked at myself in the mirror. My yellow eyes and blonde, curly, long hair made me stand out. My looks were one of my insecurities, it brought a lot of attention and everyone talked about them. But I had learned to live with it, believing I was unique. My mom would always tell me that.
"I'm coming, Alexa," I said, responding to the knock. She must have followed me when I left."
"You good?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied.
I put on my nose mask to cover my already elongated teeth. My teeth change based on my emotions. No one would notice the tiny changes in my eyes.
I made my way to the door. Alexa, still standing there with water in her hands, stretched out to give it to me. "Have this," she said.
"No, I'm good," I rejected her offer...........
