Chapter 4 Two bodyguards.

POV RANIA

This morning, I woke up without Danu by my side. Last night, he mentioned that he'd be heading to his new workplace so suddenly that he couldn't wait.

After stepping out of the bathroom, I got ready to go downstairs. Waiting for Mas Danu in the room was getting boring.

Click...

Suddenly, the door opened, and I was startled to see two assistants standing there.

"Eh? Who are you?" I asked. The two young men in uniforms bowed slightly.

"Good morning, ma'am. Your husband assigned us to guard this place," one of them said. My eyes widened slightly.

"My husband? Isn't he just an ordinary staff member? Why would he send assistants for me?" I whispered to myself.

Hesitantly, I walked toward the elevator, and the two men followed closely behind me. I couldn't wrap my head around it, but I sighed and let them trail me everywhere.

"Wait here. I'm going to buy a drink," I instructed, but one of them stopped me, saying,

"Ma'am, please have a seat. I'll get it for you."

I nodded hesitantly and sat back down.

"Alright then, get me something fizzy," I said, handing over a twenty-thousand-rupiah note.

"No need, ma'am. Just a drink? What about breakfast?" he asked.

I was baffled and instinctively replied, "Uh, crab in sauce... maybe?" I stuttered.

"Anything else?"

"C-can I order more than one thing?" I asked, eyes wide.

He nodded.

"Grilled squid, soup, some fresh fruits, and cold coconut water," I said.

He nodded again, waiting for me to say more.

"That's it!" I quickly added, still unable to believe this was real. It felt like a prank. Or maybe Danu was just spoiling me like this on purpose-it seemed wasteful.

"Where do you live?" I asked the other assistant.

"From NTT, ma'am," he replied.

"Ah, no wonder. Your skin tone is so exotic. Did you come here just to be an assistant?" I asked.

He nodded, and I nodded back thoughtfully.

"And what about you? Where are you from?" I asked the other one.

"From North Sumatra," he replied.

"Medan?"

He nodded, and I pursed my lips, continuing my interrogation.

"So, how many assistants like you are there in that company?"

"There are many, ma'am, but not just anyone can join the security team there."

"Wow, impressive. You were selected from different regions and went through some kind of screening?" I asked again.

He nodded.

"Who did the selection?"

"Mr. Saseno, Tuan Danu's father," he said.

My eyes widened.

"Father?"

"Uh-I mean, Mr. Danu's boss at the company," he corrected himself.

I exhaled deeply.

"I thought it was something serious. Don't be like this. Danu and I are just ordinary people," I said, and he nodded.

Shortly after, the other assistant returned with a waiter carrying all the dishes I ordered. I swallowed hard. I was only testing them earlier, but they actually ordered everything.

"Why am I so lucky today?" I thought to myself.

"Come on, join me. I won't be able to finish all of this," I said.

"Please, ma'am," one of them responded briefly, bowing slightly.

I pouted and began eating some grapes.

"Am I dreaming? Why does it feel like I have a husband from a wealthy family when he said he just started working?" I mused.

After finishing some of the food, my eyes caught sight of someone familiar-the man who managed to escape that night. Without thinking, I ran after him before he disappeared.

"Hey, wait!" I shouted.

He turned around and bolted. Panting, I turned to the assistants.

"Can you catch that man in the black shirt?" I asked.

"Yes, ma'am."

It didn't take long for them to return, dragging the man with them. I took a step forward to confront him.

"You! Finally, you've been caught!" I snapped.

"Sorry, but what did I do wrong?" he asked. I couldn't believe his audacity.

"You're going to rot in jail," I growled.

"But what did I do wrong?" he repeated. Furious, I leaned closer and said, "Don't you remember me?"

He shook his head. I sighed in frustration.

"How hypocritical. As if any thief would admit it. Take him to the police station," I ordered, turning to the assistants.

The man, however, seemed busy fiddling with his phone, typing a message.

"Who are you texting?" I barked.

"My child. He's waiting for me to come home, but now you're holding me here," he said. I raised an eyebrow.

"Take him away!" I commanded. The two assistants began dragging him off.

Brrrrrt...

One of their phones buzzed, and the assistant ignored my order to answer the call.

"Yes, Sir?" he said. I couldn't hear what the person on the other end was saying, but the assistant nodded.

"Understood, Sir," he replied. Suddenly, they released the man, leaving me in shock.

"Why did you let him go?" I asked, glancing at the man who was now adjusting his jacket.

"Just now, Sir called. The man who committed the crime against you three months ago has already been caught and is at the police station," he explained.

My eyes widened as I awkwardly glanced at the man.

"Oh... my bad," I muttered with a nervous grin.

He looked annoyed and walked away.

"Seriously, Miss, check your facts first. You're just wasting my time!" he grumbled.

I could only scratch the back of my neck and return to my seat. Quickly, I grabbed my phone and tried calling Danu.

Beep... beep...

The call connected, but Danu didn't pick up.

"Why isn't he answering?" I whispered.

"Sorry, ma'am. Perhaps Sir is busy," one of the assistants said.

"Oh, I see. Alright, I'll wait."

After spending hours outside, I felt utterly exhausted and just wanted to rest.

"I think I'll just go back to the room. Danu might take a while," I said to the two bodyguards. I still couldn't believe that Danu's new job had made me feel like royalty.

"Of course, ma'am. Please go ahead," one of them said, gesturing politely.

I nodded and headed toward the hotel. As I walked past the room next to mine, I saw the man from earlier stepping out. My eyes widened, and I instinctively greeted him.

"Are you staying in the room next to mine?" I asked.

He paused for a moment before nodding.

"What a coincidence. Oh, by the way, I'm sorry about what happened earlier," I said.

He nodded slowly and began to leave.

"I have to go. Excuse me, Miss," he said.

I nodded and let out a sigh.

"Oh, by the way, you can call me Rania. My husband and I are staying here. Maybe we can be friends," I offered.

He glanced back and nodded lightly.

"Nice to meet you, Rania," he said before turning to leave again. But I still felt bad about my actions earlier.

"Where are you going?" I asked, stopping him in his tracks.

He hesitated for a moment before turning around.

"I... I'm going to pick up my child," he replied.

I smiled warmly and said, "How about this? As an apology, let me treat you and your child to dinner. My husband loves children, so he'd be happy."

He raised an eyebrow slightly, and I quickly added, "Don't worry, there's no hidden agenda. It's just my way of saying sorry."

"Alright, I'll think about it. But I'm quite busy," he replied.

I swallowed hard, letting him go. I pouted and continued walking to my room.

"He still seems upset," I murmured.

"What a coincidence, though, him staying right next door," I muttered once inside the room.

I flopped onto the bed, but my thoughts lingered on his wrist.

"Wait... isn't that Danu's watch? Why does he have it?" I whispered, moving to check the drawers for Danu's watch.

"Could it just be similar? But why isn't it here?" I grumbled, rummaging through the drawer.

Click...

The door opened, and I turned to see Danu standing there.

"You're back?" I asked.

He nodded, and I felt relieved when I saw the watch on his wrist.

"Oh, thank goodness. I thought it was stolen. The guy next door was wearing the same watch," I said.

Danu stayed silent and gently led me to sit on the sofa.

"Is it true they caught the criminal?" I asked.

Danu nodded slowly, and I exhaled in relief.

"I actually accused the wrong person earlier. Ugh! Oh, by the way... are you tired? Do you want me to make you some coffee?"

"No need, love. I'm just tired and need rest," he replied.

I nodded, pouting slightly, and started thinking.

"By the way, what exactly is your job? Why do I have two bodyguards following me around all day?" I asked.

He smiled and stroked my hair.

"I told you, I'll do whatever it takes to make you happy," he said.

I was touched and rested my head on his chest.

"Thank you, love. I know how hard you've worked for us. I'm lucky to have a husband like you," I whispered.

He caressed my neck gently and said, "But I'm a failure, Rania. I can't give you the intimacy you deserve, and I'm infertile."

I shook my head and placed a finger on his lips.

"That doesn't matter to me at all. I love you, and that's enough. I believe one day, a miracle will happen," I said.

I saw him smile, and I kissed his lips.

I tried to awaken the passion within him. He's different-he struggles with intimacy-but I know there's still a chance for him to father a child. I long for a miracle, to see Danu proud and confident in himself.

He reciprocated my affection, and we tried to frame our moments of intimacy with warmth and harmony. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't, depending on Danu's mood. But as his wife, I knew I had to be patient.
