"Guys, can you please not drink too much tonight?" I ask rhetorically after Michelle and Amber had come down from the Jeep.
Finally, the spring break everyone had been looking forward to is here.
All the tough tests which students had chosen to take so seriously which is unusual, are over.....well.....for now.
Some people are already throwing parties and I just arrived at one of the parties with Michelle and Amber to do my usual job.
Y'all know that already.
"We'll try." Amber says.
"I can't promise you that." Michelle says.
I roll my eyes at Michelle.
"Why are you still in the car? Come on let's go." Amber says.
"You guys should go on, I'll catch up." I say.
"You sure you don't wanna go in with us?" Amber asks.
"Yeah, just go. I'll be with you guys in no time." I say.
"Okay, let's go Amber. I've got to find Caleb. Mia, you better hurry up so not to miss out so much fun." Michelle says.
Fun?????
More like torture.
"Okay." I say as I fake a little smile.
I watch Michelle and Amber walk into the party house.
Tonight is another night to stagger out of a party with two girls. I just hope they drink less so that I pass through lesser stress. I don't think I'm in the mood for any braids pulling or throwing up in the Jeep or any other stupid things drunk people do.
I already feel nauseous about what I'm seeing outside here.
Heavy drinkers and smokers to the left, couples making out to the right.
I thought there're always rooms for couples in party houses or maybe secret corners.
Can't they go to them and do their business?
Let them be Mia, the choice is theirs.
Ugh......fine.
I decide to step out of the Jeep to go and meet Michelle and Amber in the house.
"Mia! Over here!" I hear Amber yell from where she is standing by the drinks table which in a "non-party term" I would say the "kitchen table"
I start moving to where Amber is.
"Where's Michelle?" I ask Amber.
"She is right behind you, running business with Caleb." Amber says nodding her head towards something behind me.
I turn back to see Michelle and Caleb making out as if they're about to devour themselves. I see Caleb running his hands all over Michelle.
Ugh... disgusting.
Seriously, Mia.
Just because you don't do it doesn't make it disgusting.
It's disgusting.
It's not.....
God!! Shut up Mia.
"Miaaaaaa" Amber snaps at me making me return to reality.
"Yes....yes....." I say.
"Lemme guess, mind conversation?" Amber asks.
"Yeah, you guessed right." I say.
"You know Michelle and Caleb can be gross when they want to. Just turn away from them." Amber says.
"Yeah, I was gonna do that anyway." I say turning away, back to the drinks table.
I'd rather stare at a table occupied with highly alcoholic drinks than........ that.
"Care for some drinks?" Amber asks.
"No, I'm driving, remember?" I ask not really expecting any answer.
"Oh, right. But one shot wouldn't get you drunk, would it?" Amber asks.
"Amber, no. No drink, not even one shot of drink, no." I say.
"Okay, suit yourself." Amber says taking one shot of whatever is the name of the alcohol.
"If you really want......."
"Hello beautiful." I hear a familiar voice from behind Amber.
Jordan.......Amber's boyfriend.
I already said that earlier.
"Hello handsome." Amber replies chuckling as Jordan grabs her by her waist and kisses her passionately.
"Hi there Mia." Jordan says to me.
"Hello Jordan." I reply.
"You mind if I steal Amber for a minute or two?" Jordan asks kissing Amber's neck making her chuckle so much.
"Hey....." Amber utters.
"No, I don't mind at all. Go ahead." I say.
"Okay, nice." Jordan says before pulling Amber away.
Amber looks at me apologetically and mouths "I'm so sorry"
"It's okay" I mouth back before I totally lose sight of her and Jordan.
And history repeats itself like always.
It's me, always coming to a party which happens to be my nightmare, possibly the worst, with two girls and yet spends the entire time with neither of them.
Great!
"Hey sexy, you mind if we dance?" I hear a masculine voice say to me.
I turn to see an obviously high dude.
"I do mind." I say looking away.
"Look at me!!I'm talking to you!!" The guy violently turns my face to look at him. He holds unto my jaw as if he wants to squeeze it.
"I know lots of self defense skills." I say.
"So?" The guy asks.
"So, if you don't wanna be knocked out for at least three days, you better take your filthy hands off my face." I say sternly.
The guy laughs hysterically and then looks back at me "Who do you think I am and who do you think you're to threaten me?"
"I don't know who you're and I don't wanna know and you really don't wanna know who I am so respect your cluelessly high ass and leave me alone." I say.
"Look at the brat I'm going easy on, but not anymore 'cause you seem not to appreciate it." He says and proceeds to violently grabbing my right hand and trying to pull me to the stairs.
I'm done talking, now's time for action.
I kick the guy so hard on his right leg and detach my hand from his.
"Ouch!!! What the fuck!!!!" I hear him yell in pain.
"I warned you." I say with a smirk.
"You......"
"Matt!! What the hell!!" A feminine voice calls out.
I see a blonde haired girl walk towards us.
I'm guessing she's this dude's girlfriend or sister or cousin....she could be anything to him.
I hope she's not gonna slap me like the psycho I met some months ago.
Calm down, Mia.
Nothing is gonna happen to your cheeks.
I hope so.
"I'm so sorry. Did he hurt you?" The girl asks me.
Okay, there's no slapping.
I told ya.
Be quiet!
I thought.
"No, he couldn't." I say.
"Thank goodness. Once again I'm sorry." She says.
"Why apologize when you don't even know what happened?" I ask.
"Matt always loses it when he's high. I was keeping an eye on him but just looked away from him to say hi to a friend and he was gone. I know whatever resulted to his pain now is something he did which is definitely not cool." She says.
"Oh" I utter.
"I'm Laurel."
"Hey Laurel, I'm Mia." I say.
"It was nice meeting you, Mia. One last time, I'm sorry." Laurel says.
"It's okay." I say.
"Okay, I'll see you around then. Have a nice night." Laurel says as she grips "Matt's" hand to take him away.
"You too." I say.
Laurel seems nice though. She simply accepted the mistake of whoever that dude is to her and apologized on his behalf.
That's good.
"Who's this attractive chick?" I hear a masculine voice say from the stairs. He is leaning on the wall with another guy, drinking.
"I don't know but I do know that I'm gonna destroy her if I get the chance to." The second guy says with a smirk.
"Definitely." The first says chuckling as he notices that I could see and hear them.
Okay, I really need to get the "H" out of here.
I could just wait outside till Michelle and Amber start making a scene which of course will signify that they're drunk. I don't feel good in here.
I start pushing through the dancing crowd to reach the front door. Most of them reek of alcohol and weed.
I think I'm gonna suffocate before I reach my destination.
As I keep pushing through the crowd, I keep hearing really naughty side comments that I would really prefer not to say.
This is indeed, nightmare.
"Oh, finally." I mutter to myself as I reach the front door that is wide open. The door really knew I'd be coming to pass through it.
I let out a sigh of relief as I come out of the house to the compound. Fortunately, the smokers, drinkers and couples who do not respect privacy, are no more outside here. Maybe they had gone to the pool side.
I figured the house has a pool somewhere at the side or back.
I sight a bench close by.
Perfect!
I move to the bench and sit.
Now what?
Now I wait.
*************
Jace's POV.......
"Idris! Dude, where have you been?" I ask.
Idris had gotten an invitation to a party being hosted by his friend who is not my friend.
It's spring break. Everyone is so happy therefore taking out their happiness by partying as usual. I can see some people already high that they can't differentiate between the ground and the swimming pool that I just found Idris standing by.
"I've been here, looking for you. Where were you?" Idris asks.
"I've been looking for you too or rather Sophie has been looking for you." I say.
Sophie is Idris' girlfriend.
"Sophie? Where is she? I thought she said she wasn't coming, how come?" Idris asks.
"I don't know man, just go and meet her. I believe she's inside." I say.
"Okay, thanks. Enjoy the party." Idris says moving away towards the house back door.
"I'll try." I say.
Parties are not really my thing. I used to party during my high school days but not with the supposed enthusiasm.
I walk away from the pool environment towards the front of the house.
There's a bench there I usually sit on to wait for Idris whenever I accompanied him to this place.
That's right, I've been here couple of times and it's because of Idris 'cause like I said, I'm not a friend of his friend who lives here. So I'd rather stay outside the house and wait than having to look at the face of that jerk.
Calm down, Jace.
The dude's behavior is really irritating.
I reach the front of the house, look towards the bench only to see someone already there.
Damnit!!
I hope it's not one of those high assholes I've been seeing tonight.
I move closer and notice the person is holding a phone with two hands, definitely texting someone. I also notice that the person is a girl.
It's kinda dark out here so I need to get really....really close to see the person who has taken my favorite spot.
The closer I move, the clearer I see the person's figure. I keep getting closer and...........
Wait......
I think I might know the owner of this figure.
Could it be.........
I need to take a closer look.
This figure looks familiar and not just familiar but very......very familiar.
If this is the person I think then hurray!!
I get close enough that I finally know who she is.....
Mia Johnson.....
My assumption was right. I thought right. The only thing I didn't get right is that she's texting no one, she's playing a game.
Tonight may not be so bad after all.
"Mia?????" I call out.
**************
Mia's POV.........
I've been out here for at least an hour, no sign from Michelle and Amber yet.
I've been trying my best to keep myself busy. I've been playing games, watching some YouTube videos and........
That's all actually.
I'm now playing Criminal Case: Mysteries of the Past.
"Mia?????" I hear a familiar masculine voice call out.
I lift my head to see the person I thought I would see.
Jace Harris......
I know his voice well enough to know when he's the one speaking.
"Jace....umm.....hi." I say with a smile.
"Hi. I didn't think I would see you here." Jace says.
"I didn't think I would be here too but here I am." I say.
"Me too." Jace says.
"So, what brings you here?" I ask.
"Well, the party's host is Idris' friend. He was invited so he thought it would be nice if I came along.....end of story. What about you?" Jace asks.
"I'm here for Michelle and Amber. They always end up getting themselves so drunk so I'm gonna be driving them home." I say.
"Oh, so you're waiting for them to get drunk then?" Jace asks.
"As crazy as it sounds, yes. I've been doing so for a while now." I say.
A while???
A long time!!!!
"Okay. Why are you outside here though? Shouldn't you be inside having fun or something?" Jace asks.
"Well.....I don't like parties. I'm only here for Michelle and Amber like I said." I say.
"Oh...okay. That's nice of you." Jace says.
"So....you mind telling me why you're outside here?" I ask.
"I don't like parties either especially not the one being hosted by someone I detest." Jace says.
"He's not your friend?" I ask.
"No, he's not. I only speak to him at all because he's Idris' friend. The guy's a total jerk." Jace says.
"Ah.....so, where's Idris now?" I ask.
"He's probably dancing with his girlfriend inside." Jace says.
"Oh...." I utter.
"Where's Michelle and Amber?" Jace asks.
"Same. Having fun with their boyfriends." I say.
"So.....technically we both have been ditched by our friends." Jace says.
"That seems to be the case." I say with a chuckle.
"We do have some things in common, don't we?" Jace asks.
"Yeah, we sure do." I say.
"Umm.....you mind if I sit?" Jace asks me.
"No...I don't mind at all." I say adjusting a little bit for Jace to sit.
"Ok....thanks." Jace says.
"It's nothing." I say.
"Umm....so what game are you playing?" Jace asks.
"Oh.....it's Criminal Case: Mysteries of The Past." I answer.
"You play Criminal Case?" Jace asks.
"Yeah. Anything wrong?" I ask.
"No, I just....I used to play Criminal Case a lot when I was in high school." Jace says.
"You don't play it anymore? Why?" I ask.
"I kinda got bored playing it so I stopped." Jace says sincerely.
"You've got to be kidding me. Bored?" I say.
"Yeah." Jace says.
"I don't think I can get bored with Criminal Case." I say.
"Really?" Jace asks.
"Yeah, really. I've played like three of them. This is my fourth." I say.
"Are you being serious right now? I could barely finish the one I was playing then." Jace says.
"Which one did you play?" I ask.
"The one that's just "Criminal Case". I think it's setting was "Grimsborough." Jace says.
"Yes. That was the first one I played then I played Paris and Supernatural before this Mysteries of The Past." I say.
"Wow, did you really finish them?" Jace asks.
"Not really but I played up to level 60 or more except for Supernatural. I was on level 31 before my old phone got spoiled. I didn't want to start afresh when I got this phone so I chose to start another one." I say.
"Level 60!! Wha.....do you wanna be a detective or what?" Jace asks.
"I don't know. It could be fun to be a detective, couldn't it?" I ask.
"You don't know that." Jace says.
"Probably." I say.
"You seem to love the game so much." Jace says.
"Yeah. I love playing games in general." I say.
"That's nice. I never thought you would be such a gamer." Jace says.
"I....am one "H" of a gamer. " I say with a smile.
Jace chuckles at my statement.
We're now silent. Our eyes would meet a few times but I would shyly turn away, back to my phone.
Few minutes later......
"Hey, you wanna take a walk with me?" Jace asks breaking the silence.
"I don't think. I need to stay close for my friends." I say.
"We're not gonna be far." Jace says.
"I really can't.....I want to but I can't." I say.
"So you're just gonna sit here all night, playing games and waiting for your friends to get drunk?" Jace asks.
"Yeah, if I have to." I say.
"You don't have to. Your friends are having fun in there, why not have your own fun out here?" Jace asks.
"I'm having fun with my games." I say.
"You know the kinda fun I'm talking about is the one other than your games. Mia, your friends are with their boyfriends, I assure you that they're fine. Come on, let's just take a quick walk." Jace says.
He's right though.
All I do is just sit around and wait for Amber and Michelle in boredom while they're having so much fun.
Now that I think of it, it doesn't seem fair.
I'm definitely taking a walk.
That's my girl.
Calm down, it's gonna be brief walk like he said.
"Okay, let's take a walk then." I say, standing up with Jace.
"Mia!!!" I hear someone from behind call out just as Jace and I are about to leave the house premises.
What now??
