Chapter 5 SCARLETT, THE NEW OFFICE GIRL

Tyler was seated on the couch in his living room pondering on how he could handle his mother's health. He knew his mother was all he had and he didn't feel so good about his staying away from her. He planned to go home soon but he felt like he had a lot at hand.

"Damn..... I've got to see Momma soon. How do I feel so busy when I'm not actually always so busy" he said to himself.

He heaved a sigh of relief at the thought of Charles, he felt so relaxed about going to see his mother when Charles was around. He loved his mother so dearly, but he really didn't like staying around her. He loved to be alone or with Charles, because Charles understood his solitary.

He spent a lot of money on his mother's health and he was willing to spend more to make sure she was well, but the news of her deteriorating health bothered him so much.

"Bro, I heard you say something a while ago" came a voice from without the living room that got him out of his rivers of thoughts. It was Charles who came down the stairs to get a drink from the refrigerator.

He took out a drink with two glasses and went into the living room.

"Yo.... What's up?" Charles asked as he poured out the drink into the glasses for himself and Tyler.

"Charles, Momma's been the biggest thing on my mind, and I am so worried about her health. I wonder what has not been done about it." He replied, taking a sip of his drink afterward.

"Man, it's a lot and I understand. I'm really thinking we should go and see Momma sooner."

Tyler sighed and said, "I've got a lot of work and I don't like to go off work because my company runs through me."

"I get you, but business will run smoothly and perfectly well even if you are absent, you and I know that. You've got Clara and she has never disappointed. I'm not trying to guilt-trip you, but you know that Momma really wants to see you and if, suddenly, she loses her life to this illness, you'll surely create time to run back and also work on her funeral."

Tyler felt a mold in his throat, he didn't feel more emotional about anything like his mother, even though he hid it from her. His mother didn't even know how much she meant to him because he acted so hard every time, she thought he was fully emotionless. Well, he was, but just not to her.

He wouldn't want to lose his mother yet, but her health was deteriorating every single day. The cancer was killing her slowly at first. It was medically handled, but now it seemed it was killing her faster than he thought. The best medical attention was given to her, but it seemed it was failing now.

And everything Charles said was true, Clara was the best manager, even though he never told her that or never voiced it for once, he knew she was. And he knew she'd keep things in place even when he wasn't around. Also, if his mother passed, he'll surely have to create time to plan the funeral, so he had better create time to see her.

"We'll be going next week to see Momma, Charles. Right before you travel off again", he finally said.

Charles patted him on the shoulder and said, "I've got you Bro,"

Tyler finished up with his drink, got up and took his Car keys from the table. "I want to check in the office, are you coming?"

"Yeah, sure" Charles replied as he got up to get himself ready. "But hold on" he said raising an eyebrow, "You're driving?"

"Ofcourse I am"

"What's up with the driver?" Charles asked curiously. Tyler never liked to drive himself, he only did that on rare occasions.

"Man, I want to do this." Tyler said and didn't even wait for a reply, he went out and got the car engine steaming already.

Charles had to hurry up to get into the car, when he did, Tyler asked, "Do you know what I feel to do right now?"

"Nope" Charles responded curiously.

"I feel to take a serious ride with no destination in mind" Tyler responded. Charles smiled and said, "You'll do just fine, Tyler. Well, I remember when we always had those kind of rides, just you and I. Good old days"

"Yeah" Tyler said with a light smile before driving off to his company.

When he got to his company, he met his new office girl standing outside. She stood as though she was expecting someone. When she saw his car approaching, she smiled to herself.

"What the heck?" Tyler stated. He felt fed up with everyone in his life, Charles didn't seem bothered because Tyler was always like that.

"She's probably waiting for you, ofcourse she's your office girl..." Charles teased but paused because of the stern glare Tyler threw at him. He cleared his throat and said, "I mean she's probably waiting for anyone, it really doesn't have to be you".

While they were talking, Scarlett walked down to the car and Waited patiently for her boss to step out of the car. When Charles noticed she had walked down to thier car, he said to Tyler, "Okay, at your service, she is".

She was standing at the owners side of the back seat of the car. She couldn't tell that her boss was the one driving, moreover the glasses were tinted.

Charles got off the car first, and Tyler got off after him. Scarlett walked to her boss when she realized he was at the driver's side of the car.

"Welcome Boss Sir, I had no idea you were the one driving" she said as she curtsey respectfully.

"Charles, we won't stay here for long, I've just got to check some files and off we go" Tyler said to Charles as he walked passed Scarlett.

"He's also a big snub?" Scarlett asked herself.

"Scarlett, take out your Bosses Laptop from the car and lock it" Charles said to her with a wink, then he followed Tyler inside the building.

Scarlett blushed abit, she liked that Charles was welcoming. Atleast, he was making her job easy but she really didn't care what Tyler was going to do, she was determined nothing would deter her. And she barely gets offended.

She took out the bag that had the Laptop, she saw a file inside but was contemplating on if she should take it out or not. She finally decided to take just the Laptop bag because Charles didn't ask her to take out the file.

When she got to his office, she realized he wasn't seated. He was checking out some of the arrangements and Charles was not with him. She has rearrange most of the things in his office because she felt it wasn't In the right position. His office was neat when she met it but it wasn't the exact way she would have thought it be.

"Scarlett" Tyler called with a very calm voice, just like he knew she was right at the door. Her heart started racing, she wondered if he liked the new state of the office.

"Are you deaf" he retorted due to her silence.

"I'm so sorry Boss Sir, Yes Sir" She finally answered as she dropped his bag on the table.

"You did this to this place?" He asked in a tone that wasn't clear if he meant he was unsatisfied or satisfied.

"Yes Sir. I thought to work on the office because I felt it needed some touching" she replied. He walked down to his seat, sat down and kept mute. She continued, "I'm sorry Sir, I could place everything the way I saw it earlier if you wouldn't like the new state of the office".

Just before Tyler could speak came a voice from behind, "Wow.... This is.... Uhmm.... strange but nice". It was Charles, it made Scarlett chuckle. He sat on the sofa and said to Scarlett, "I believe you're an angel, this is perfect".

"Thank you" Scarlett said with a smile.

"Call me Clara Whitlock" Tyler finally spoke. When Clara came into the office, she was startled at the new look of the office.

"Welcome Sir" she said, her heart racing so fast. "What did you do, Scarlett King" she said within herself. She swore within her that she'd kill Scarlett once her boss is done dealing with her.
