Chapter 5 endless time

What do I do now? she thought, her mind racing in panic. She had no escape plan, no way out of this. She couldn't lie her way out of it either. Her heart pounded in her chest as the nurses and doctors prepared the sample for testing. It was only a matter of time before the truth would be laid bare before them all.

The minutes seemed to drag on endlessly as everyone waited for the result. The doctor, normally so composed, now seemed a little flustered as he reviewed the paperwork and ran through the test once more. After a few long moments, he looked up, his face momentarily frozen in shock. His expression was unreadable, but it was clear that something wasn't right.

Andrew stood leaning against the wall, his impatience turning into annoyance. "What is it, doctor?" he asked, his voice tinged with frustration. His eyes were cold, a sharp edge to his tone. He wanted the confirmation he had been waiting for, a reason to condemn Sarah further, to validate the anger and resentment that had been building inside him.

The doctor didn't answer immediately. Instead, he glanced at the mayor, who was standing nearby, his arms crossed and his eyes narrowed. It was as if they were both waiting for the right moment to speak, for the truth to finally come out. But even the doctor seemed unsure of how to proceed.

Finally, the doctor placed the test results in front of Andrew. The paper was trembling slightly in his hands as he picked it up, his eyes scanning the lines of text printed on it. As his gaze traveled down the page, his expression shifted from one of curiosity to disbelief. His eyebrows shot up in shock, his lips parted in an almost imperceptible gasp.

Andrew's face flushed with frustration and confusion as his eyes narrowed at the result. The room seemed to close in on him as he read the test results, his grip tightening around the paper. "What the hell?" he muttered under his breath, the words escaping him like a bitter exhale.

He couldn't believe it. This wasn't what he had expected. The test result was positive-Sarah was indeed pregnant. But that wasn't what shocked him the most. It was the fact that it wasn't just any pregnancy; it was a result that indicated she was several weeks along. This revelation hit him harder than anything he could have imagined.

His mind raced as he tried to process the implications of this discovery. The rage that had been simmering beneath the surface of his controlled demeanor was now boiling over.

How could this happen? he thought, his stomach twisting in anger. This was not part of the plan. This wasn't supposed to happen.

"What... what does this mean?" Andrew's voice cracked as he asked the question, his tone rising with frustration. His hands shook as he held the paper, unsure of what to do with the truth that was now in his hands.

The mayor, seeing Andrew's reaction, took a step forward. His face was stern, but the flicker of concern in his eyes told a different story. "It means the girl is pregnant, Andrew," he said, his voice low but firm. "And that changes everything. This marriage has to happen."

Andrew didn't respond immediately. His mind was still reeling from the shock of the test result. He was silent, his jaw clenched tightly as he fought to control the rising tide of emotions inside him.

The mayor cleared his throat, his voice smooth as he attempted to regain control of the situation. "It doesn't matter how it happened or why it happened. What matters is that we move forward with this wedding. We cannot let this scandal tarnish everything we've worked for."

Andrew glanced at the mayor, his eyes still wide with disbelief. His anger and confusion swirled together in a storm of emotions. "But she lied," he said quietly, his words heavy with accusation. "She kept this from me. All this time, she-"

"I know, Andrew," the mayor interrupted, his voice cutting through the tension. "But we'll deal with that later. Right now, we focus on securing the future, both for our families." He turned to look at the doctor. "Is there any reason why the wedding can't proceed immediately?"

The doctor shook his head, his face still pale as he backed away from the intense scrutiny. "No, no reason at all," he muttered, his voice wavering slightly. "But..." he hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much to say.

The mayor, sensing the doctor's hesitation, gave a reassuring nod. "Good. Now let's proceed." His voice had lost none of its authority, but there was a coldness to it that only seemed to add to the unease in the room.

Andrew, still holding the test result, turned away, unable to hide the fury that was building inside him. He couldn't believe this was happening. This wasn't the future he had envisioned. And yet, there was no turning back now.

The truth was out. Sarah was pregnant, and nothing would ever be the same again.

Andrew stormed around the room, his anger building with each passing second. His hands clenched into fists as he paced back and forth, his voice filled with rage. "How could she think of doing such a thing!" he shouted, his words dripping with venom. "Do I look like a joke to her?!" He could feel his heart pounding in his chest as the anger coursed through him, his mind racing with a mix of disbelief and fury.

He turned sharply, ready to leave the room and get away from the situation that was quickly spiraling out of control, but his father, the mayor, quickly stepped forward, grabbing his hand to stop him.

"Andrew, calm down," the mayor said, his voice surprisingly steady, though his eyes revealed the same frustration. He gently placed a hand on his son's arm, urging him to sit down. "I have a plan." He added with a reassuring smile, though it held an almost calculating edge to it.

Andrew stopped in his tracks, his anger still simmering beneath the surface, but he reluctantly complied and sat back down. He took a deep breath, trying to collect himself, but the thoughts of Sarah's deception continued to swirl in his mind. How could she have kept such a secret from him?
