Katherine took her breakfast food to the table after turning off the stove and put the pan in the sink, as she was about to sit down, her father look at his daughter's neck.
"It's seem whom ever give you give you that necklaces must have some money,"
"Dad, what are you taking about now?"
"Go in the mirror and see for yourself,"
Following instructions, she placed her plate on the table and walked towards a mirror on the wall, where she discovered a necklace. The blue diamond heart appears to be wrapped in the shape of a dragon, and it lights up when she touches it. She can't recall purchasing something so expensive.
"Dad, I have no memory of receiving this from anyone."
"Katherine, your dating life or having a sugar daddy is fine as long as you don't end up pregnant. You are allowed to keep any presents given to you by these individuals."
Although her memory is fuzzy, she doesn't want to make herself dizzy by trying to remember. So, she goes back to her food, which is probably cold by now. She really doesn't care, she just wants to eat it. Katherine is unsure if she should share the news of her afternoon interview with her father, knowing that he may be tempted to visit a bar or local casino beforehand. She's probably hoping to get this job so she can move out of her cramped apartment and into a home. Instead of sharing a bathroom with her father, she desires to have her own.
The rain hasn't stopped since last night, as if someone made the goddess cry. She gazes out the window while enjoying her breakfast and sipping her coffee that she rarely drinks unless she is really tired and didn't get no sleep.
"Father, I have plans to go somewhere later." Will you manage being alone here?
"Why are you giving me the impression that you see me as a child?"
"Father, I know you, you sneak out of this apartment somewhere, which I am going to have a hard finding you. Therefore, there no need for leaving which you have food, beer, and the TV to keep you entertained in the apartment."
After cleaning the dishes and placing them on the drying rack, she recalls the need to do laundry, fortunately, this apartment has a washer and dryer instead of a cold, damp basement that gives her the chills.
She enters her room and retrieves her laundry basket, pulling it into the washing area. While that is happening, she rummages through her clothes and selects a professional outfit consisting of blue dress pants and a white blouse. She quickly styles her hair into curls and grabs her two-inch heels. By the time she notices, it will be afternoon and her bed will be made and room cleaned and all her clothes are wash, dry, and fold on her bed. Katherine would it when she come back home. Katherine occasionally needs a glass of wine while caring for her father, who has her running around like a child. At that moment, there came a knock on the door.
Dad, can you please answer the door? "Father!"
Since he didn't hear her, she left her bedroom and went to the door to look through the peephole and see who it was. The living room was empty, and she wondered if her father had quickly retreated to his room. Indeed, he was in there, peacefully sleeping on the soft mattress.
Someone knock on the door again probably the person got the wrong apartment again once again check the peephole there was someone wearing a black suit and wearing sunglass now who would wear those there no sun outside didn't want to open the door. Katherine put the chain on the door to check of who is this person is before opening the door.
"Hello, can I help you?"
"Yes, this Walker's apartment?" asked an unknown man
"Mr. Miller wants me to give these to you, due that you had to come and save your father,"
Not want to be attacked due that it could be a trick trying to get into the apartment and rob her so she grabs her metal bat from the closet, unchain the door and open it to see three guys just stand there with gifts in their hands.
"Explain why do he want give me gifts?"
"Like I say before, he felt bad that you had to come and get your father from his place of work,"
"What happens if I don't want it?"
"My lady, he won't take answer for no,"
"Sigh, hand them here and thanks him for me for the gifts. I will care of them,"
How did the men manage to enter the apartment building without a key, despite the landlord informing everyone in the building? Unauthorized individuals are prohibited from entering this building unless they are residents. To retrieve them, you must go downstairs. Look down the hall and follow them downstairs to witness them leaving the building, which is quite creepy. She then returns to her apartment, closes the door, and takes the gift into her room. In order to conceal them from her father, Katherine took shelter in her closet. She put her new gifts in the closet until she found the white envelope. It had slipped her mind, but she eventually remembered - it was her mother's "Will". She quietly went to her bed while her father slept, and with shaky hands, she opened it. She stood there, afraid to open it, as if something terrifying awaited inside. Katherine carefully opened it, the sound of the unfolding paper echoing softly in the room, before gently placing it on her bed.
There is a letter on top of some papers, but Katherine wants to read the letter first.
Dear Katherine,
At the time of your reading this correspondence, I will have already departed from this life. This letter is to inform you that I come from a wealthy family and have inherited their wealth. I concealed my family from your father, only revealing my lack of wealth. He disregarded my worries about my well-being. Keep the inheritance a secret from your father. I want him to love me for who I am, not my money. Just make sure he doesn't discover this.
Love your mom.
Ava Walker
Katherine felt tears fall onto the letter. She wipes her tears, looks at the documents on the bed and reads it, it has her name on it. Keep looking until she hit the last page of an arranged marriage to Christopher Miller. That what hit her it was the same guy that her father was getting money from. That is weird. Why would her mother have this? At the moment she can't do this, put the papers back into the envelope back into the hidden spot, she checks her phone. It was almost that time for her to get ready for the job interview. She put on her blue dress pants, white blouse and put on her shoes, just apply light makeup on her face make sure her hair is not in a mess before leaving the house. As she grab her blazer and her purse with her cellphone before leaving out of the door to see her father just sitting in front of the tv watching a movie.
"Dad, I am going to a job interview. Will you be okay by yourself?"
"Just go. I will be okay. I just eat the leftover food you cook last night for lunch,"
"Don't leave this apartment,"
Thomas remained silent; Katherine exited the apartment, closed the door, and then secured the lock. While descending the stairs, she entered the company's address into the GPS to ensure the driver didn't get lost on the way. In order to arrive on time, she decided to take a taxi. Once the taxi stopped; Just looking at the window, then check on the clock to see it was only 1 o'clock. Witness the rain falling outside while the sun continues to shine through the window.
With a sense of urgency, Katherine switches on the camera, desperate to confirm if her father was still there. After the interview, Katherine contemplated a quick stop at the store to grab an extra item for their dinner. With anticipation, she dreams of landing the job and the additional funds it would bring. Thomas remains seated in the chair, his dinner tray untouched before him as he takes sips from his beer, showing no intention of leaving.
She paid the driver and then headed towards the company. Stepping out of the car, she closed the door and made her way into the building. Immediately, her eyes were met with the sight of people dressed in professional attire and the sound of phones buzzing. Intrigued, Katherine proceeded to the front desk to engage in a conversation with the security guard.
"Hello," she said confidently, "I am here for the interview."
"What is your name?"
"My name is Katherine Jones,"
"Oh yes, let me called upstairs to tell you are here,"
After making the call, the security guard felt nervous as he surveyed the building and turned to look at Katherine.
"Ms. Shakira mentioned that Katherine Walker is already in the interview. I believe you should depart and stop pretending to be someone you're not,"
Katherine displays her ID to the guard. The person upstairs is someone else, not her.
"This ID may be fake. Ma'am, I advise you to go away."
She didn't want to cause no trouble she leave the building, if it seem that someone took else took her spot, didn't bring an umbrella or jacket sigh to herself now she has to find another job just stand under the hood to not get wet as the rain came down heavy now. The wind was picking up, making her cold didn't want to get her phone wet, as she was about to call a taxi someone was standing over her with an umbrella. She looks up at a man with sapphire eyes, with his brown hair to run her finger though his hair. wearing a black suit with a white shirt even his shoes brand new.
"Good afternoon, why are you standing out in this cold while it raining?"
"Um...I came here for a job interview however someone else used my name. I told the guard, that is not me, but he told me to leave,"
"What is your name?"
"It's Katherine Walker, sir,"
"Come with me, I can fix that problem,"
As Katherine walks back into the building, the gentlemen follows closely behind, holding the door for her. The guard glanced up from his computer and noticed Katherine returning with another person.
"Miss I told you to leave, I don't care who bring with you. You not going upstairs,"
"I'm Christopher Miller, the owner. According to this woman, someone else occupied her position in the interview, and she needs to verify it using email communication."
"You are funny. I know Christopher, and you not him, I think you three should leave before I call the police to throw you out of here,"
Christopher pulled out his cellphone and called someone not even two mins another older man see him and quickly bows to him.
"Mr. Miller, I am sorry, I didn't know you would come in today," says the older man
If I hadn't been there, I would have missed witnessing the guard being rude to the young lady. Upon her arrival for the job interview, she mentioned that someone else had already claimed her position. I want her as my private secretary. Ms. Jones, can you start today?"
"Yes, Mr. Miller, I can start today and thank you,"
"Mr. Johnson, I want you to fire this guard. Ms. Jones follow me to my office,"
"Yes, sir,"
The guard was taken aback when Mr. Miller fired him from his job, realizing he had made a grave mistake. As Mr. Miller's right-hand man presses the button for their destination, Katherine follows him into the private elevator, taking in the smooth walls and the scent of polished metal. With curiosity, Mr. Miller leaned in to get a closer look at the family heirloom resting on Katherine's neck.
"Um...thank you Mr. Miller,"
"It's no problem, It's a delicate necklace around you neck. Where did you get it?"
My husband gave me a gift before he was tragically killed by a drunk driver. The crazy part is that the person who hit him on the court only gets a minor punishment," Katherine falsely claimed.
Christopher's heart sank as he observed Katherine's professional appearance - her hair is in curl, her face had little to no makeup on. Just then, the elevator doors opened, revealing Mr. Miller exiting with Katherine by his side, both heading towards his main office. The sound of chairs scraping against the floor filled the office as everyone rose to their feet, their eyes fixed on the boss who was accompanied by a young lady.
"Ms. Clark, who is that young woman that is with Mr. Miller?"
"I don't know. Let me check,"
Ms. Clark follow her boss toward his office to see the young lady sitting in the chair as she turn, around so did Mr. Miller.
"Mr.Miller, who is she?" asked Ms. Clark
"This Katherine Jones, she is my private secretary and she will be starting today," said Mr. Miller
"No, Katherine is at her desk, sir,"
"Bring her here,"
Ms. Clark obediently followed the instructions given to her. Katherine checked on her father using the camera and saw him sitting in his chair, enjoying his meal and sipping on his beer. Her eyes shifted from her phone to the corner, where she couldn't help but notice the worn appearance of the coffee maker.
"Mr. Miller, would you like some coffee or tea?" Katherine asked
"Tea please,"
Katherine got out of her chair, went over the coffee marker to make Mr. Miller tea and herself coffee, she went to clean the pieces in the sink. He has a sink in his office that is good so he can wash his hand or clean something out, grab the two mugs from the cabinet. Once Katherine was done, she bring the hot drinks and put on next to Mr. Miller and she grab hers in her hand.
"Here you go Mr. Miller I didn't know if you like sugar in your tea so I didn't add it in,"
"Thank you Katherine,"
The women who think she was Katherine came into the office wearing a skirt that is way too high, her hair is curls, wearing heavy makeup with too much perfume that making her eyes water.
"This Katherine sir, she is your private secretary, " says Ms. Clark
"No is not Katherine, this is Katherine Walker,"
"Miss, what is your real name?" asked Mr. Miller
"Sir, it's Evelyn Perez,"
"You sat there and lie that you are Katherine Walker instead of telling the truth,"
"The guard just let me up here after I told him the name. I am your private secretary,"
"No thank you, I already have one, you made go back and finish you work,"
Overwhelmed by the powerful scent of the perfume, Katherine rushed to the window, opening it slightly to release the overpowering fragrance that was causing her dizziness.
"Ms. Clark, you made leave, Ms. Jones. I need you to make some copy for me for my meeting that I am having in the ten min, used my code,"
With a brief exchange, Mr. Miller entrusted Katherine with his code to the printer and hastily departed, accidentally leaving her purse behind in his office. Katherine took the papers to the printer, entering the code "start" to initiate the copying process. Once the copies were made, she carefully carried them to the conference room, ensuring that everyone had one. Everyone came into the room, taking their seat. Katherine she made an extra copy for herself to read. In the meeting about the new product contains: peanuts, soy, dairy, wheat. There want to say something because they need a sign so customer came to try sample they can read the ingredient before buying it.
"I am sorry, I didn't mean talk out of the line. I think it best if you have it label the ingredient because you have kids or adults have allergies to certain ingredient the new prduct. If I am going to buy something like I would ask question does it has peanuts or something like that," said Katherine
"How would you know? You just started working here," said Ms. Clark
"I am allege to peanut and I must carry a EPI-pen for safely reason, and someone didn't grew out their allergies and if you don't bold the ingredient so people can see it. It's going to a law sue which it going to putt this company as risk. If you start cutting corner you will put people life on the line and we don't want that," said Katherine
"That is a smart idea. Any else Katherine?"
"Yes, you can make two of the same product so people can choose. Give people sample of the product but make sure there are two different stand one with peanut, soy, dairy, wheat and the other stand without it for the people to tastes safely. However, it not guarantee that factory that makes this product can be cross contamination," said Katherine
Mr. Miller sitting there and start to think that Katherine was right and he was lending back into his chair just listen to everyone.
"Mr. Miller that is wasted of time and money to make everything is label in bold letter people can see it,"
The meeting was filled with the sounds of overlapping voices as everyone engaged in conversation, eager to discuss the significance of Katherine's truthful remarks about labeling their product.
