Chapter 3 Night shift at the Graveyard (2)

After closing the graveyard gate, Rover and the other three walked along the path towards a small church.

"This place is..." Akiko looked at the slightly dilapidated wooden church, its exterior covered in cobwebs, the wooden walls thick with moss as if it had been abandoned for decades.

"A church..." Kaito replied: "It looks like an abandoned place, but there's still light from the electric lamps inside, proving that someone comes here regularly."

"We don't need to go inside, let's go to the security room first."

"Why?" Alex frowned upon hearing this: "The inside of the church is better than the security room, isn't it?"

Kaito shook his head and sighed: "No! If I'm not mistaken, this place is set up by the company to test our abilities."

"They are definitely watching us through hidden cameras right now."

"Our task is to watch over the graveyard at night, if we wander around, we might lose points, or make those watching us think we're unprofessional."

Listening to Kaito's analysis, Rover was a little surprised. Kaito's appearance made him think that Kaito was the type of person who only used brute force and not much brainpower.

But Kaito was the opposite, a strong physique, but with a brain that could analyze and draw extremely reasonable conclusions.

Rover now felt that he was truly old, over 30 years old, over 30 years of life experience couldn't compare to a young man under 25.

He shook his head, not wanting to think anymore. Anyway, this was a team mission, if Kaito was this outstanding, he didn't need to worry too much.

Kaito alone was enough to 'carry' this whole team. So... Hehehehe... Rover thought about just sleeping until tomorrow morning and receiving $5,000, laughing inwardly.

Having someone 'carry' you was a good thing, there was no need to be jealous.

Alex also found it reasonable, shrugging and saying: "I have no idea."

Akiko just nodded without saying anything more. Her thoughts were somewhat similar to Rover's.

After all, this wasn't a competitive relationship, so having an outstanding person in the group who could help them pass this mission was a good thing.

Afterward...

Alright, there was no need to think too much about what came after, worrying about the present was enough.

Kaito led everyone forward. The atmosphere was quiet and cold, surrounded by graves.

Fog covered everything, limiting visibility to the point where he could only see the path and the three people walking around him.

No, he could still see the graves on both sides of the path, but he couldn't see any further.

As if he were walking in a dream, not knowing when he would find the way out.

Rover felt a weight on his shoulder as if something was pressing down. However, he tried to shrug it off, thinking it was probably just because he was cowardly that he had that strange feeling.

Even though he knew this place was set up by the company and there were hidden cameras around, Rover still shivered, feeling a little scared.

After a while, they arrived at a very simple small house with only four walls, as if built with children's Lego toys.

However, unlike the church, this place was extremely clean, without many trees or even cobwebs around.

On the wall was a new sign: "Security Room"

Kaito went to the door, took out the key, and started to unlock it.

Krit!

"Huew!"

As the door cracked open, a gust of wind carrying a terrible stench hit them in the face, and Akiko couldn't stand it, vomiting immediately.

Kaito, Alex, and Rover immediately covered their noses, their faces wrinkling, unable to understand what that smell was.

It was like a mixture of the smell of blood and the sour smell of stomach acid. But this smell was incredibly strong as if there was a decomposing corpse inside.

However, Alex, Rover, and Kaito looking at Akiko vomiting, understood why the woman had asked if they had eaten dinner.

And they also realized... why the job posting said not to eat before the interview.

Perhaps... this was the reason. However, they all thought that there would be more things that would make them vomit soon.

Kaito frowned, only opening the door a crack, not daring to open it further. He looked at everyone, covering his nose and mouth while asking: "Should we go in?"

Alex clicked his tongue: "Tsk! Are you scared? Did the company employees buy a bunch of rotten eggs and throw them inside to scare us?"

"If you're scared, let me go in!"

Hearing this, Kaito nodded slightly and stepped aside.

Alex: "..."

'Damn it! I was just joking, are you really letting me go in first?' Alex cursed inwardly: 'You're as big as an elephant, and I'm like a twig, are you really letting me go in first?'

Kaito looked at Alex with an expectant gaze, leaving Alex no choice but to sigh and suppress his fear.

Although he spoke as if he was very brave and fearless, he was actually very scared.

His trembling hand rested on the slightly damp wooden door, then he took a deep breath and pushed the door open.

Krit!

The door opened, revealing the scene inside to everyone.

The room was also very simple: a small bed, a cabinet, a toilet, and a table.

The room only had one window, but it was boarded up with wooden planks, the small gaps between the planks covered with newspaper.

On the table, a TV along with a console was starting up, next to it was a piece of paper and a pen neatly placed.

Seeing that the room was completely normal, Alex breathed a sigh of relief. He felt like his heart was about to jump out of his chest when the door opened.

Damn it! It was just a trial, was it necessary to raise his heart rate this much?

"Hahahaha... you guys are such cowards, look, the room is completely normal." Alex, regaining his composure, shouted arrogantly: "If I weren't here, who would open the door for you?"

Kaito nodded slightly, chuckling: "Alex is indeed very brave, I'm a bit cowardly, I didn't dare to open the door, luckily you're here."

"That's right." Rover added: "Thank you, I'm really cowardly, with you here, we can easily overcome this challenge."

Although outwardly Rover praised Alex, inwardly he only felt that Alex was like an arrogant guinea pig.

If there was danger, just provoking Alex a little would be enough to make him risk going forward.

Hearing everyone's praise, Alex's face became even more arrogant.

After waiting for a while, feeling the smell lessen, everyone started to enter the room.

Akiko, with a pale face, covering her mouth and nose with both hands, said uncomfortably: "Tonight... are we... are we sleeping here?"

"That's right." Kaito sighed: "Did you think you could easily swallow $5,000?"

"Huew!" Suddenly, Alex couldn't hold back and made a retching sound.

"Damn it! Was it necessary to go this far?"

Everyone turned around and saw that Alex had just lifted the blanket covering the small bed, soot and flies flying out like a black cloud.

After they all flew away, a pool of dried blood was revealed. A lot of blood, mixed with a white fluid.

"That's..." Akiko was frightened, backing away.

Kaito frowned, approaching the bed, and said uncomfortably: "It seems... this company really invested thoroughly in this trial."

"Even small details like this are done so meticulously."

"Damn it!" Alex cursed angrily: "If this company doesn't pay me, I will..."

"What will you do?" Kaito asked with a smile.

"Tsk!" Alex clicked his tongue, threw the blanket on the floor, and then found another chair to sit on.

Each person sat on a chair, except for Kaito, who checked the entire room, and then picked up the paper on the table.

After examining the paper for a long time, he frowned and said: "It seems... we're not just simply sleeping here for one night."

"Hm?!" Rover asked, puzzled: "What do you mean?"

Kaito held up the paper, on it were listed the tasks that needed to be done, and next to them were small empty boxes.

"If we finish a task, we can tick these boxes."

Rover, seeing the tasks on the paper, suddenly remembered the notebook that the middle-aged man had given him.

The notebook also had the same tasks listed on the paper, however...

He suddenly realized... it seemed the woman hadn't given them a notebook like the middle-aged man had.

Rover decided to stay silent, taking out his mobile phone and taking a picture of the paper.

"Aw!" Akiko suddenly exclaimed: "There's no signal here."

Kaito and Alex also checked their phones, indeed, there was no signal at all.

"Alright." Kaito sighed: "Don't worry too much, not using your phones for one night won't make you stupid."

"We should focus on completing the tasks. First, the task of closing the graveyard gate is completed."

"Next, regularly check the surveillance cameras," Kaito said while pointing towards the old TV placed on the table.

Everyone immediately focused on it, and Kaito started controlling it to switch cameras.

First, the screen displayed the graveyard gate, then switched to the camera showing the entire north area, in the distance were rusty metal water pipes.

Kaito continued switching, the third camera was inside the main hall of the church. What was peculiar was that the place looked like it had been ransacked, chairs and tables overturned on the floor as if a storm had just swept through.

The fourth camera showed a strange area, like a basement. However, this camera only captured the image of the stairs leading down, nothing more could be seen.

The fifth camera showed the south area, where there was a large tomb pierced through by a tree, seemingly abandoned for a very long time.

"That is..." Akiko gasped, covering her mouth, her face pale as Kaito switched to the sixth camera.

"Damn it! Is this company crazy?" Alex muttered: "Is that real or fake?"

Kaito remained silent, saying nothing.

Rover trembled slightly when he saw what was displayed. On the screen was a brightly lit room, but inside the room were three gurneys, on them were... three black body bags, bulging as if containing three corpses.
