His commanding presence filled the room, making the air feel heavy, and none of them dared to breathe too loudly under his intense aura.
The young man beside Amy, Colt Walker, shot her a wary side glance, and thought suspiciously, 'She was alone with the president. I wonder if she succeeded in seducing him.'
Shaking his head in disdain, Colt straightened his posture.
Summoning his confidence as the only male aspirant present, he stepped forward. "President Vance, I'm Colt Walker. I've been diligently working in the CEO's office for the past five years. My uncle, Richard Walker, also sends his regards."
Zak's gaze shifted to Colt, his expression impassive. Those who knew him well understood that he held no regard for sycophantic flattery.
His eyes then moved to Stephanie Hilton, a petite, brown-haired woman who immediately stood straighter under his gaze. "President Vance, my name is Stephanie Hilton. I've been working in the CEO's office for... three years."
The woman, Stephanie, tried to appear more confident, but her trembling voice betrayed her nervousness.
Zak's attention finally turned to Amy, who was already looking at him.
She couldn't help but notice how striking he was-his face a masterpiece, as if crafted by the hands of a skilled artist. There was something about him, something indescribable that drew her in.
Zak, too, found himself staring, unable to look away. He had always thought his wife was uniquely beautiful, but Amy... Those green eyes, that flawless face-she was stunning just like his wife.
Everyone else in the room could see them looking at each other, drawing a deep frown from Colt. 'I knew it. Who the hell is this bitch anyway?' he thought bitterly.
James cleared his throat, breaking the moment and drawing Amy's attention. "Introduce yourself to the president, Ms."
Amy nodded politely. "Of course." Turning back to Zak, she spoke with calm confidence, "Hi, President Vance. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Amy May. I worked under the CEO at my previous company for less than a year, to be honest. However, I'm highly skilled at what I do and came with strong recommendations."
Her voice, though calm, carried an undeniable strength that made her introduction stand out from the others. Combined with her poised conduct, polished appearance, and striking features, she exuded professionalism in a way that set her apart.
Her resemblance with his wife shouldn't be a problem.
Zak lowered his gaze, deep in thought, weighing his decision. Would it be purely professional?
He saw her recommendation, the confidence in her voice, and her composed manner. It was enough to tell him one thing: Amy May knew exactly what she was doing. She was qualified for the job.
"Let Amy May stay," he said simply, his gaze still fixed downward.
James nodded in acknowledgment, while disappointment filled the faces of the others as they were escorted out of the office.
As they stepped away from the door, James turned to Amy and said, "Amy May, welcome to Vance Conglomerate. You're now one of the president's special assistants. This here will be your office."
Amy couldn't hide her satisfaction as she glanced at the desk and chair positioned just off to the side of the president's office door-not directly in front, but in the corner.
James caught her attention again. "A word of caution," he said. "The president can see everything happening outside through his office door."
Amy looked at the door, noticing she couldn't see anything inside from where she stood. Smiling at James, she replied, "Thanks for the heads-up."
Meanwhile, the other two candidates were visibly disgruntled.
Working alongside the president came with significant perks, including a substantial salary increase. Both had worked their way through a competitive selection process, eager to secure the promotion.
But in the end, the good position went to Amy May-the outsider, and the one with the least experience.
However, Stephanie sighed, deciding not to think that way. She reasoned that Amy must be genuinely skilled at her job to have earned the position.
"Hi," she greeted with a bright smile, feeling somewhat captivated by Amy's presence. "Congrats! Can I call you Amy? You can call me Steph," she added, extending her hand for a shake.
Amy looked really elegant, exuding the aura of someone from a well-off background. Stephanie silently hoped she'd take her hand.
"Steph," Amy returned her smile and shook her hand. "Yes, I'm Amy. Nice to meet you."
Stephanie's face lit up, genuinely pleased by the friendly response.
Colt, however, scoffed and shook his head in disdain. With a sarcastic tone, he remarked, "Stephanie, maybe you should take some lessons from your new friend. Apparently, it's not just skills that get you promotions or jobs these days-you've got to know how to seduce people too."
Though he didn't name anyone directly, his pointed remark hung in the air as he waited for Amy to take the bait, because he was certain the guilty would defend themselves.
Amy met his gaze, her expression calm yet curious. "Oh, is that so? Should I be worried, then, since you've just openly slandered President Vance?"
Her words made Colt realize the implications and his face turned pale.
