Chapter 5 Julian's point of view

It's hard for me to imagine that the same Mabel would still have the audacity to show up at my house after what she did to me. The last I checked, she was practically the one who warned me never to call her phone again. I observed the tone of her voice and I could tell that she meant everything she said over the phone. If she had been standing next to me with that kind of rage, she would have done worse.

Showing up at my house after those worrisome threats doesn't make sense to me. For the very first time, I met someone unpredictable. I met someone tougher than I expected.

"My father was quite aware that Mabel and I had already ended things a long time ago. Why did he welcome Mabel into our home?" I whispered.

I tried calling my father over the phone, but he wasn't responding. A thousand times, I texted him, and not for once did he respond.

Mabel is the last person I want to see right now. What I need is relief and not someone that would trigger my anger and that's precisely what Mabel did. She did it so effortlessly without dropping a sweat.

I waited in my car for over twenty minutes and hoped that I would get a call from my father informing me that Mabel had gone, but it never happened. Not even a call or text from my father.

This isn't just a coincidence. It could be that my father and Mabel are plotting a secret move behind me. To them, it might be a surprise, and I am not comfortable with that.

"Yes! I finally figured it out," I exclaimed after a thought flickered through my mind.

"I now know why my father hasn't chased Mabel away. He thought she could fit in perfectly into the fake marriage to enable us to secure the deal," I told myself.

I have no idea how I came about the thought, but it was the only thing I could have. My brain isn't functioning properly, courtesy of Mabel's disaster.

My phone vibrated for an incoming call. I became so happy even though I had yet to confirm the caller. I had every reason to believe that it was my father over the phone. I only cared about having a telephone conversation with him more than anyone else. Not even a call from Alexandra was more important than my father's.

Looking at my phone, I discovered it was Mabel calling me. I quickly hissed and looked away. She always has a way of upsetting me and getting away with it.

I had the urge to ignore her call, but after thorough deliberation, I figured that it would be ideal for me to respond. It would also be a perfect opportunity to kick her out of my house myself, since my father wasn't brave enough to do that. I could have called her myself a long time ago if she hadn't blocked my number.

She called again, and I was able to respond this time. I placed the phone next to my right ear and waited for her to speak first, since she was the one who initiated the conversation.

"Is that Julian?" She asked me over the phone in a different tone. She sounded calm, unlike the previous time when she nearly took down Alexandra's building with her loud voice.

"Can you please go straight to the point already? I don't have the whole day to do this with you right now. I have got more important stuff to worry about," I yelled at her and frowned. I wish she could see my face right now. All I felt for her was hate and nothing more.

"I'm sorry, Julian.

I know I wronged you.

I just want to apologize. I'm at your house as we speak. Can you please come over and let's talk about this?" She asked with confidence. She wasn't only unpredictable, but she was also courageous enough to want to have a conversation with me after ruining my dream.

"Talk about what?

I have nothing to say to you.

You're bad news to me. Have you come to finish up what you started? I thought you warned me never to reach out to you ever again. What changed?" I clapped back. I was getting bored with the conversation. I was equally desperate to hang up on her, but I figured it would be sudden. I still need to kick her out of my home immediately.

If she gets off the phone, I'm never gonna reach out to her anymore because she has already blocked me.

"You have every reason to be mad at me. I have come to make it right again. I would be willing to accept your demand. Your Dad told me that Alexandra is yet to accept your demand," Mabel revealed to me.

"My Dad did what?" I widened my eyes astonishingly when she mentioned that to me.

My father wasn't helping matters. Now I know why he didn't kick Mabel out. He's so desperate to see me close the deal without considering my happiness.

"Yes, he did,"

Mabel affirmed.

"We spoke about it and he agreed. We both know Alexandra doesn't match your energy. She's too reserved for you. If you loved her, you wouldn't have ditched her for me," Mabel spilled.

"That's enough!" I silenced her.

"On no account should you speak about Alexandra in such a manner. She's a thousand times better than you can ever imagine," I warned Mabel just to set the records straight.

Although I cheated on Alexandra with Mabel, that didn't mean she was the problem. She gave me five years of her life and I threw all that away by having an affair with Mabel.

I made Alexandra believe that Mabel was my cousin to prevent her from getting suspicious. My secret was further exposed the day Alexandra caught Mabel and me making out in the living room.

I thought Mabel was going to be a perfect replacement for Alexandra. It turned out I was wrong. I made a bad choice that can never be corrected again.

My relationship with Mabel made me realize how important Alexandra was to my existence. I failed to utilize her importance until I lost her.

"Why do you keep defending Alexandra like that? For crying out loud, you broke up with her five years ago. I thought you moved on?" Mabel flared up. She went from being remorseful to a wild cat.

"We broke up because of you, and you know it," I reminded her.

"I will be home soon.

I want you gone before my return.

Not even my Father will save you when it starts to get messier," I threatened Mabel and drove home immediately, intending to kick her out.
