Chapter 9 THE UNEXPECTED ALLY

Ashley's eyes widened as she stared at Marcus. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "You're not going to get away with this," Ashley said, her voice firm. "I'm not going to let you use me for your own gain." Marcus smiled again. "Oh, I think you will," he said. "You see, Ashley, you're not just any ordinary person. You're a very special individual, with a very special gift. And we're willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that you use that gift for our benefit." Ashley felt a sense of outrage.

How dare Marcus suggest that she would use her talents to manipulate and control people? "I would never do that," Ashley said, her voice firm. Marcus smiled again. "Oh, I think you would," he said. She had to stand up to Marcus and The Syndicate, no matter what. Just as Ashley was about to respond to Marcus, the door to the office burst open. A woman with long, curly brown hair and a determined look on her face walked in. "Marcus, stop this right now," the woman said, her voice firm. Marcus turned to the woman, a look of surprise on his face. "Ah, Rachel," he said. "I wasn't expecting you to show up here." Rachel walked over to Ashley and stood beside her. "I'm not going to let you hurt her, Marcus," she said. "She doesn't deserve to be treated like this." Ashley looked at Rachel in surprise. Who was this woman, and why was she sticking up for her? "Who are you?" Ashley asked, her voice curious. Rachel smiled. "My name is Rachel," she said. "I used to work for The Syndicate, but I quit when I realized what they were really doing. I've been working to take them down from the inside ever since." Ashley's eyes widened in surprise. She had never expected to find an ally like Rachel. "Thank you," Ashley said, her voice sincere. "I owe you one." Rachel smiled. "You don't owe me anything," she said. "I'm just glad I could help. Now, let's get out of here and start planning our next move." Ashley nodded, feeling a sense of hope. With Rachel's help, she might actually be able to take down The Syndicate and escape their clutches. As they walked out of the office, Ashley couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Rachel. She had saved her from Marcus and The Syndicate, and she had given her a new sense of hope. "Thank you again," Ashley said, as they walked down the hallway. Rachel smiled. "You're welcome," she said. "Now, let's get to work. We have a lot to do if we're going to take down The Syndicate."
