Chapter 5 Sudden shift

Aiden's Point Of View

I stood in my office pacing up and down in confusion. I needed to find my mate, and I needed to do it fast. The seer had told me she was here, somewhere among our pack.

'Who can she be? I've searched everywhere and even the neighbouring pack, but I didn't find her' I thought, lost in my own world.

The knock on the door brought me out of my door."Yes, come in," I instructed whoever was at the door.

"Alpha," he greeted with a little bow, as I nodded my head lightly.

"Ethan," I said, trying to keep my voice calm.

"I need you to organise a festival. Get all the females in the Brickstone Pack here. It's really important."

Ethan raised an eyebrow, clearly confused because this was not the first time I am organising such an event. "Why is it so urgent, Alpha?" he questioned.

I took a breath, I still couldn't believe my father was dead and the weight of the whole pack was on my chest. "The seer told me my mate is here in Brickstone. I have to find her before it's too late."

Ethan nodded, looking serious now. "Okay, I'll get on it right away."

As he left the office, I sat down and opened the drawer of my desk. I pulled out the letter I had discovered the day before. My heart raced as I read the words again.

I don't know who this is, but I will make sure to find out whoever is behind this.

CAMILA'S POV

The day of the festival was finally here, but instead of the usual excitement, I felt a knot in my stomach. I stood among the crowd with my best friend Sophia, forcing a smile which doesn't feel genuine.

"Camila, are you okay?" Sophia asked, her voice laced with concern when she noticed I looked lost.

"I don't know. I just feel... weird, I have this weird feeling that something is wrong but I can't point it out." I admitted, looking around at the happy faces of the pack members.

Everyone seemed so happy, and yet I felt like an outsider. Most of the people here have gotten their wolf, while some have gotten their mate. But I'm without my wolf and without my mate, I just like a useless human.

Mom stepped up to the stage, it was obvious that she was very happy. "Welcome, everyone! We're here to celebrate our pack and its future! Alpha Aiden has something important to say!"

Aiden took a step forward, his face looked serious and kind of stressed. I really feel for him because our father is dead and he has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.

He began, "Thank you all for coming. This festival is not just a celebration, it's a way for me to find my mate. She is among us, and together, we will protect our pack."

The crowd cheered happily, but I felt uneasy. A strange sensation moved over my body, making my skin tingle.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my body, like fire racing through my veins. I gasped, feeling my bones crack and shift. I fell to the ground in a loud thud, my heart beating rapidly in my chest.

As I lay on the ground, I could feel the pain tearing through me. "What is happening?" I thought, panic setting in. I looked around, but all I could see were faces filled with shock.

"It's Camila," I heard one of the pack members' voices.

"She is changing in the day," I heard that mockery in their voice, although the voice seems distant but I could hear them, I could hear all of it.

I felt like running away, but I couldn't because the pain was too much for me. "Oh my God, I hope what I'm thinking is not happening," I muttered under my breath in fear. Fear of being called a sunbound cursed wolf, fear of being isolated from people in the park.

"Camila!" I heard Aiden's loud voice. I wanted to reach for him, to tell him I was okay, but my body felt like it was on fire.

Then, I felt a rush of energy as my body began to shift. It hurt, but it was also freeing. I screamed, feeling my form change, my bones breaking and rearranging.

"Why is this happening?" I thought. I could hear whispers around me, but they felt distant. All I could focus on was the pain and the overwhelming sensation of becoming something more.

I could feel the connection I was trying to deny between me and Aiden as he walked closer to me, I hope it is not what I'm thinking.

"No, no, no," I muttered under my breath. At that point I didn't want him to come closer to me, I just wanted to run far away.
