" Sure, lead the way," Martin said as he swung his hand forward.
They got to the hospital, and she searched for Evelyn everywhere, but all to no avail. Finally, one of the nurses told them where she was. They met in a small dark room beside the theatre room;
" What are you doing here, all by yourself, don't tell me you want to do something stupid to yourself?" Helen asked calmly.
" No, I'm fine. I just wanted to be alone. Thanks for coming." Evelyn said tearfully.
" Sorry for the loss Evelyn. May her soul rest in peace." Martin said softly.
" Thank you, Martin," Helen replied, still crying.
" How did it happen? I thought you already paid for the surgery." Evelyn asked with sympathy.
" Yes, I already paid for the surgery, but she didn't make it out of the theatre room," Helen explained.
" Fuck! I'm so sorry once again." Martin said.
" Thank you, could you please give me some weeks to mourn my mum before going ahead with the plans? You know she was the reason why I'm doing all this in the first place, so please, I need some time to think and also mourn her." Evelyn said, sobbing.
" It's ok; we'll give you six weeks to rest to figure out your life and also mourn your mum, ok?"
" Wow! Thank you so much. Six weeks is actually enough for me." Evelyn thanked her.
" Remember, you've signed an agreement, no going back, and you can't play smart on us; you know the consequences, right?" Helen asked with a straight face.
" Yes, I know; I have no intention of running away; I just want to mourn my mum," Evelyn said softly.
" Ok then, we don't have a problem," Helen replied with a smile.
" Why doesn't Martin talk whenever it comes to this conversation? Wasn't it his idea all along or does he hate me?" Evelyn asked Helen pitifully.
" No, no, no, it's not about you, it's about me. Just leave him, he'll come around." Helen assured.
" Okay." Evelyn said, nodding her head.
After some minutes, Helen and Martin helped Evelyn clear the bills. Her mum's body was taken to the morgue, and after that, they went home; they dropped Evelyn off at her house before heading to theirs.
The six weeks for Evelyn to mourn her mum was up, she went back to Martin's house with a few bags because Helen told her she'd be staying there for two to three weeks so that she could know Martin better and vice versa so that they don't mess up when they get to Donald's place.
The weeks were over, and Martin and Evelyn were looking all dressed, they looked like a couple, they were going to see Donald;
" You both look so cute together." Helen complimented.
" Thank you," Martin replied with a straight face.
" Your dad wouldn't even suspect anything a bit because you guys already outdid yourselves with this outfit, you both look like a real couple," Luca said, smiling.
He came around that morning to make sure everything was on point and in place.
" If you say so, guys, we're leaving now. Please keep saying a word of prayers for us as we leave because you see that old man we're going to meet, heaven will make lose if he finds out that we're lying." Martin said, shaking his head.
" Don't worry baby, we got you guys covered," Helen assured him with a broad smile.
" Whatever!" Martin said, rolling his eyes and he left the house.
Evelyn walked hurriedly after him, they got into the car, Martin started the engine and he drove off.
" I know he hates me for this, but I'm not ready for marriage, and no man can make me do what is against my wish," Helen said to Luca.
" Don't worry, he'll be fine. With time, he'll come around." Luca assured and hugged her.
" He better come around because I'm tired of this silent treatment he's giving me," Helen said as she held onto Luca's body.
" Don't worry, he'll come around," Luca assured again.
Some hours later, Martin and Evelyn came back from Donald's house; Helen opened the door for them, and Luca was still around. As they walked in, they looked so unhappy and worried;
" What's the problem, you both don't look unhappy. How did it go?" Helen asked, looking tense.
" Guy, what happened? Did your dad find out or did she mess up?" Luca asked, looking worried as he stood up from the couch.
" One of you should say something, why are you both quiet?" Helen asked, still looking tense.
" We have a wedding to plan!" Evelyn and Martin chorused.
" What the fuck! I hate you guys, so you scared the hell out of us before speaking? Gosh!" Helen said, smacking her head.
" It was Martin's idea, I'm sorry," Evelyn said in laughter.
" And you both played us well, damn!" Luca said as he sat back on the couch.
" You both need to see the look on your faces, you were so scared," Martin said, laughing.
" Dude, please don't play such games on us again." Luca cautioned with laughter.
" So you mean your dad fell for the lies?" Helen asked as she walked towards Martin to hug him.
" Yes, he did; Evelyn and I will be getting married in a month," Martin answered with a smile.
" So you have the company and your inheritance back," Helen said, throwing her hands in the air.
" Yes, but that's after the wedding," Martin said.
" This calls for celebration, let me go get a bottle of wine and four glass cups," Luca said excitedly as he stood up from the couch.
" Yes, it calls for celebration. Thank you, Evelyn, thank you for playing your game so well." Helen said to her.
" You're welcome, I was paid for the job, so I have to carry it out well," Evelyn said with a smile.
" Yes! Here is a bottle of wine, so guys come over to the dining area and let's pop some champagne." Luca said to them.
" Sure!" They chorused.
The friends cheered for the new beginning, and afterwards, they went out to celebrate it in a lounge.
A month later, at the church, Evelyn can be seen in a white ball bridal dress; she looks so stunning, and Martin in his black suit. Helen was Evelyn's chief bride's maid and Luca, Martin's best man.
Donald and his friends and family were also present; it was the happiest day of his life seeing his son getting married; he had always wished for that day.
" Do you Evelyn, take Martin to be your lawful wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The priest asked.
"Yes, I do," Evelyn said with a broad smile.
" Do you Martin, take Evelyn to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The priest asked.
" Yes, I do," Martin answered with a smile.
" You may kiss your bride." The priest said.
After the priest blessed the Union, there was a party afterwards, Martin and Evelyn's wedding was the talk of the city for weeks.
