Chapter 10 He Is McCarthy

Tommy PoV

I was sure that the boy was my son. He did resemble Laurie, but I could see traces of me in him.

He was very handsome and funny. His eyes radiated intelligence and toughness. That was definitely inherited from me.

But, when I thought about the past, I thought again. How could Laurie have a child? Wasn't she sterile? That was the main reason why I chose to divorce her, even though the timing was really bad because Elle was already pregnant at that time.

"If I were pregnant, would you still divorce me?"

"Of course not. But you're sterile, while Elle isn't."

The conversation rang in my ears again. At that time I laughed at Laurie. My heart was in bloom at that time, knowing that the woman I adored was pregnant with my child.

However, it's not that I hate Laurie. I just don't love her anymore. After all, I always loved Elle. She was not only my first love, but she was also my first girlfriend, and even though we had separated, my love for her never died.

My mother and my twin sisters didn't like Laurie. They thought I had made a mistake by marrying Laurie, who at that time I actually only used as an escape because of my broken heart with Elle who suddenly moved and disappeared from my life.

Laurie was very beautiful and had a beautiful body shape. She had an exotic and not boring type of beauty. She was also smart, gentle, and caring.

My twin sisters didn't like Laurie because she was prettier than them. My mother didn't like Laurie because she came from a simple family.

My mother always made fun of Laurie as a country woman, a farmer's daughter. She always hoped that Elle would be my soulmate, but when I married Laurie, she thought Laurie was blocking the possibility of me being with Elle again.

I was the only son in my family and my deceased father was also an only child, so my grandfather's company would automatically become my inheritance.

The demand that I have children became something urgent, and the longer I was with Laurie, the more anxious I became because she didn't get pregnant.

I traced Laurie's family history and learned that her mother also had difficulty conceiving. After several miscarriages, Laurie's mother was finally able to have Laurie, after almost twelve years of marriage to her father.

I guess, my fate and Elle's were not completely broken, even though we had separated and I was married.

I met Elle again and she was not married. She was still as beautiful and sexy as before. Her cheerful and easygoing nature made her career in modeling skyrocket.

I didn't dare to expect anything from her when we met. I was worried that my heart would be broken again.

However, Elle approached and touched my heart again. Before we realized where our feelings were going, we were already in bed and it continued.

I'm sure, Laurie noticed the change in my attitude that became colder towards her. But she loved me too much to protest and even though I was sometimes rude to her, but still those feelings were nothing compared to what I was feeling again with Elle.

Then, Elle said that her period was late and she said that if I didn't want the baby in her womb, she wouldn't force me and would have an abortion, as long as she could stay with me.

Of course I really wanted the baby because besides I had to have a child, I also wanted to stay with Elle.

Then, Elle said that she didn't want to be with me if I was still with Laurie. She didn't want to bear the burden of being accused of being a husband stealer or a third party.

At that time, of course I chose to obey Elle. I didn't want to lose her again, especially since she would give me a child. Laurie was clearly unable to give me what I really hoped for and the longer I felt she was burdening me more because she didn't work and just stayed at home, very different from Elle who had a career in modeling and was quite famous.

I divorced Laurie without any regrets at all. She refused my kindness in giving her alimony and just disappeared, I didn't care either.

Over time, many things happened and I met Laurie again, she had completely changed and even had a very handsome son?

I had done some investigations about Laurie, after meeting her at the consortium event and there was no news of her getting married to anyone.

Looking at the child's body size, he should not be more than five years old and that means, Laurie conceived the child after when we separated.

Why didn't Laurie ever tell me anything about the child? Did she also not know she was pregnant when we divorced and chose not to say anything when she found out because she was afraid I wouldn't believe her?

I felt a little guilty for accusing her of being infertile. I guess I was impatient with her and Elle's presence back in my life made me blind.

(Laurie, if it's true that he is my child, then I have the right to have him.)

I sent a message to Laurie after our meeting at the ice cream cafe, and she didn't reply to my messages at all, and it seemed like she didn't read them at all.

I became restless because I couldn't forget about the child named Forest.

"Tommy, you've been daydreaming since earlier. You didn't even listen to my report!" Jenny snapped in annoyance.

I was shocked and sighed. "I'm sorry, Jenny, there's something on my mind," I said.

"What's wrong?" Jenny asked. "Is it about Laurie?"

"Hm? How did you know?" I was confused. "Can you read my mind?"

Jenny pointed at the paper in front of me and when I saw the paper, I grimaced. Of course Jenny knew, because I was daydreaming while writing Laurie's name over and over again on the paper.

"Tell me," Jenny said. "You miss her, right? Because of her appearance that has changed 180 degrees and also her success and wealth now?"

"Tsk! I don't need her wealth, because we are rich too," I said angrily.

"Yes, but she is many times richer than us and that really bothers me more than when she was poor!" Jenny grumbled.

"I think, all this time she has been lying to us with her innocent attitude," Jenny continued. "I don't know what she meant, she hid her wealth from us."

"She didn't hide her wealth from us, Jenny," I said annoyed. "She did inherit a plantation and then managed it until it became successful. She is a persistent and strong woman, so she managed to do it."

Jenny snorted at your words. "Now you're defending her. Do you have any intention of going back to her and breaking up with Elle?"

I kept quiet. It was a difficult question and I admit it crossed my mind for a moment after returning from the ice cream cafe.

"What if the answer is yes?" I asked carefully.

"NO!" Jenny snapped. "Even though she is very rich and successful now, she still has a fatal flaw."

"You mean, she is sterile and can't possibly give me children?" I asked again.

"Yes, that is very important. You can still try with Elle, but Laurie is beyond help. You will only waste your time with her," Jenny said firmly.

I leaned towards her and smiled. "What if I told you, I have a child with Laurie? A handsome and intelligent boy?"

Jenny looked at me as if I was growing horns on my head.

"Laurie... Has your child?" Jenny whispered with her eyes focused on me. "And her child, a boy?"

"Yes," I said. "A healthy, handsome, intelligent boy."

"But isn't she barren? And the age of the child? It's possible that Laurie has married another man and that is their child!"

"It turns out she wasn't sterile. She must have conceived my child when we divorced. Laurie didn't remarry after divorcing me and looking at his face, his way of speaking, and also his attitude, it all resembles me. As for age, I'm sure she's not more than five years old. I've been separated from Laurie for six years now."

Jenny pouted. "Then the boy is a McCarthy descendant."

"Yes, I'm sure of it. My feelings can't be fooled because I felt a spiritual connection the first time I saw him," I said.

"Then," Jenny said slowly. "You should take him. He's a McCarthy!"

I grinned. Jenny and I often had the same thoughts.
