"Uh, Miss Nora," Mr. Leonard said, pointing to the board. Clearly, he wanted me to continue with the equation. I felt a pang of sadness at the thought of not seeing Zane.
Just when I was about to turn around, I saw a striking figure walk into the classroom. My mouth dropped open as a gasp escaped my lips.
Oh my God, it was Zane! Zane! The leader of the Phoenix 4; my crush! Oh my God! He really did come!
I stood frozen as I watched him enter the room, looking broody as ever. He was decked out in jewelry and looked absolutely heavenly. Even a blind man would trip over him. His style was out of this world; the way he walked was like he owned the place.
Can someone seriously be this perfect? I mean, rich, unbelievably handsome, stylish, famous, he had it all. He was just too cute; no one else could ever compare. Oh, my Zane.
I watched him running his fingers through his hair as he scanned the room for a seat. Then, to my utter shock, he took my seat! Yes! He picked up my bag from the locker and placed it on the next vacant seat, then plopped down right where I was supposed to be!
Oh my God! Zane just touched my bag. Am I dreaming or what? I'm definitely going to have that bag enshrined in a museum.
"Haven't I warned you all to turn off your phones?" Mr. Leonard asked, glaring at the students who were trying to snap pictures of the Phoenix 4. They giggled and quickly powered off their devices.
"Miss Nora," he called, and I snapped out of my thoughts, turning back to the board. I focused on the equation, praying I wouldn't accidentally write Zane's name up there. In less than two minutes, I finished and handed the marker to Mr. Leonard.
He glanced over my work, his face lighting up with a smile. "Wow! That's correct. Impressive," he said, and I felt my head swell with pride. Oh, Zane, did you see that? I solved the equation!
"Thank you, sir," I said, trying to return to my seat. Oh no. Zane was already sitting there. What do I do now? But the seat next to him was empty. Does this mean I'll be sitting next to Zane?
I noticed some students watching me, curious to see what I'd do. Oh God! And Zane wasn't even paying attention to me or anyone else. He leaned back, staring out the window like he didn't have a care in the world. He probably didn't even know I existed.
I walked hesitantly to the row and stood in front of him, but he still didn't look my way. What if he remembers me from that store yesterday? I grabbed my books from the locker and moved to the seat next to him, grateful he hadn't noticed me.
I sat down and sighed, feeling nervous. Wow! I really can't believe I'm sitting next to Zane. The teacher continued with the lesson, but my mind was elsewhere. All I could think about was the Phoenix 4 sitting next to me. He had this amazing fragrance that was so sweet. I wondered what cologne he used; I bet it could buy a house.
I noticed the jewelry he wore, expensive-looking pieces that sparkled like gold. He had a hoop in one ear, three bracelets on his wrist, a long gold chain, and a tattoo on his arm. Wow! This guy's on another level.
When I glanced at his shoes, I noticed they were designer, the latest trend in the country. Everything about him screamed classic and expensive. I couldn't steal a long glance at his face, though, since I didn't want him to catch me staring. That would be so embarrassing.
He didn't even have a book or a pen; he had three phones and car keys. He kept gazing out the window, but after a while, he pulled out one of the phones and started scrolling.
I tried to sneak a peek at what he was doing and saw he was just looking at pictures of clothes, shoes, and jewelry. Seriously? He's not even paying attention in class. I couldn't help but wonder why he was like this.
"Zane, switch off your phone," Mr. Leonard said, and all eyes turned to him, Zane. Oh boy. Everyone was looking at him. So, this was my chance. I turned to look and... wow! His face was so perfect up close.
Oh My! Mr. Leonard? "Mr. Leonard, I listen with my ears, not my eyes," Zane shot back with a smirk, and a few students chuckled. Oh my God, is he actually rude?
Mr. Leonard looked annoyed, but just as he was about to respond, three people walked in, two men and a woman. The students started murmuring among themselves, curious about what was going on.
The trio walked up to Mr. Leonard and had a quick, quiet conversation with him before making their way to Zane's desk. Huh? Who are they?
"Sorry for the interruption, Sir Zane, but we have a quick question for you," the woman said, and Zane barely glanced at her before dropping his gaze back to his phone.
"Uh, some important items have gone missing from the storage room you used yesterday during practice. We just want to know if you saw or heard anything," she asked, and my heart sank. What? Items are missing? But why are they asking Zane? I was in that room with him.
Zane scoffed and shot her a look. "Hold on; are you trying to accuse me of stealing something?" he asked sharply.
"No, no, no, Sir Zane! Please don't misunderstand," the woman stammered. "You could never do that; it's just not like you. We just wanted to know if you were alone, or if you saw anyone else in the room with you."
My eyes widened. Oh God! Is this really happening? I was the only one with Zane in that room. He must remember my face. But I didn't take anything!
My heart raced as Zane turned and looked directly at me, and I felt my breath catch in my throat. Oh no. Please, don't call my name!
