Chapter 2 Jace's New House Depends On You

I didn't bother with my brother, Jace Willis, and simply took my mother toward the parking lot.

I heard Jace mumble a few more words behind us, but Jolene managed to calm him down.

My mother quietly complained beside me, "Vivian, this is your first time meeting Jolene, right? Why do you seem to dislike her? She's Jace's girlfriend, after all. You should at least consider Jace's feelings!"

I absentmindedly agreed with my mother, but in my heart, I became even more cautious of Jolene.

I took them back to my rented apartment, then went downstairs to buy vegetables, meat, and fish, planning to treat them with a lavish dinner. Little did I know, it was during this meal that I would uncover Jolene's true intentions.

I was quite good at cooking, probably because I had been cooking for my mother and Jace since I was young.

However, tonight, with Jolene's presence, I didn't feel the usual warmth from my mother and Jace that used to soften my heart.

"Vivian, I still say the same thing. Why would a woman like you need to buy a house? When you get married, won't the man provide a new house? If you have the money, why not lend it to Jace?"

While we were eating, my mother finally got to the real reason for this visit. And she added, "Jace and Jolene are planning to get married soon. You know Jace's situation isn't as good as yours, and I don't have much ability to help. So, Jace's new house and wedding depend on you!"

I picked up a piece of fish and slowly chewed it. The situation in front of me didn't surprise me. This kind of favoring the male heirs was something I had seen countless times on TV and in videos. But it was the first time this had ever happened to me.

My mother wasn't like this in the past She treated both me and Jace equally. Sometimes, she even secretly favored me a bit more because I was her daughter. So why has she changed so much now? Could it be that people changed their attitudes towards their children as they aged?

I couldn't believe that.

I didn't immediately respond. I glanced at Jace and Jolene.

Jace didn't show any particular attitude, just kept serving Jolene food. But Jolene's expression was intriguing.

She smiled at Jace and nodded continuously, but occasionally glancing at me from the corner of her eye.

Hmph! Did Jolene think I was that easy to push around? Did she believe that if she convinced my mother and controlled Jace, I would obediently give her money to buy a house?

Jace and I actually had a good relationship. If my mother hadn't changed her attitude so drastically, I might not have been so suspicious of Jolene. I might have even helped Jace buy a new house for his wedding.

But now, I felt something was off with my mother's and Jace's attitudes.

"Jace, what do you think?" I asked Jace.

Hearing my question, Jace looked up at me. "Vivian, you know my situation. I want to marry Jolene, so I really need to borrow money from you to buy a house. Vivian, I'm counting on you to help me!" Jace smiled at me and said seriously.

"Yes, Vivian, Jace's new house depends on you! You really should help him," my mother said to me with unusual seriousness.

I still didn't immediately agree. I wanted to figure out the reason behind my mother's sudden change in attitude.

I suggested we discuss it tomorrow and that we should rest early tonight.

Although my mother and Jace weren't very happy, they didn't press me further.
