Chapter 6 A forced alliance

Vincent Hanstrup leans back in his chair, his eyes gazing out the window at the bustling streets of Singapore. Vincent Hanstrup is temporarily in his company's Singapore branch to oversee a few critical projects and negotiate some high-stakes deals. Vincent sits behind his sleek, glass desk, his chiseled features illuminated by the floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a stunning view of the city skyline. His piercing blue eyes seemed to gleam with confidence, and his chiseled jawline was accentuated by a hint of stubble.

His light brown hair was perfectly styled, and his tailored suit fit him like a glove, showcasing his athletic physique. The office itself was a testament to his impeccable taste and success. The modern design featured clean lines, minimalist decor, and a neutral color palette. It had pops of grey and white color and contemporary art pieces to accentuate his taste. The furniture was sleek and low-slung, with a plush area rug adding warmth to the space. On the walls, framed awards and accolades told the story of his company's achievements in architecture and design. Vincent's company, Hanscorp, was renowned for its innovative and sustainable designs, from luxury residences to commercial skyscrapers. A few notable projects were showcased on a large screen display, including an eco-friendly museum in Dubai and a futuristic skyscraper in Tokyo. The office buzzed with the hum of creativity and productivity as his team of talented architects and designers worked tirelessly to bring Vincent's visions to life. In the background, a large model of his latest project, a sustainable city development, sat on a large table, a testament to his company's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Oliver, Vincent's best friend and personal assistant, sat in front of Vincent's desk, his expression serious and concerned. "Vincent, we need to talk." Vincent looked up from his computer, his eyes narrowing. "What is it, Oliver?" He takes a deep breath. "It's about your lifestyle, Vincent. The only thing that matters to you is work. And it's not worth it." Vincent raised an eyebrow. "Not worth it? You know how much I enjoy it." Oliver shook his head. "Enjoy it? Really? Or are you just addicted to the thrill of it all? Because I know you, Vincent. I know you're better than this." Vincent snorted. "Better than this? You mean better than being a successful CEO with a great life?" Oliver leans forward. "You'll be turning 32 soon. I'm not trying to pressure you to get married. I mean you're better than being a man who spends months and years indulging in work and nothing else. You deserve true love, Vincent. And I know it exists, because I've found it with my fiancée." Vincent rolls his eyes. "True love? Come on, Oliver. That's just a myth. If you're really in love, then I'm happy for you." Oliver smiled softly. "It's not a myth, Vincent. It's real. And I'm living proof. My fiancée is an amazing woman, kind, smart, and beautiful. And she loves me for who I am, not for my wealth or status." Vincent raises an eyebrow, intrigued. "And you think I could find someone like that?" Oliver nodded. "I know you could. But you have to be willing to look, to put in the effort. You have to be willing to settle down and commit." Vincent sighs, rubbing his temples. "Oliver, I don't know. I'm not sure I'm ready for that." Oliver's expression softened. "I know it's scary, Vincent. But trust me, it's worth it. True love is worth it." Vincent nods, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Yes, yes, I'll find true love and settle down. Happy now, Oliver?" Vincent's smile faltered for a moment before he regained his composure. "Yes, Vincent. I'm happy. I just want what's best for you." Vincent leans back in his chair, a skeptical look on his face. "Save it, Oliver. I know you're just trying to get me to settle down so you can quit worrying about me and focus on your own love life."

Oliver clears his throat, switching gears. "Anyway, enough about your love life, Vincent. Let's get to work. I have some updates for you." Vincent nods, grateful for the change in subject. "Go ahead." Oliver pulls out his tablet and begins to scroll through his notes. "Well, first of all, there's an email from the office of the director of arts and culture". Vincent shifts nervously in his chair. "What does it say?" Oliver hesitates for a moment before speaking. "The director is requesting that you partner with Lillian Arturo, CEO of Art-verse, on the urban renewal center project." Vincent's expression darkened. "What! That's unacceptable! I can't believe the minister would even suggest such a thing!" Oliver continues, his voice neutral. "According to the email, Miss Arturo will be taking the lead on the project, and you will be providing support and resources as needed." Vincent's face reddened with anger. "This is a joke! I'm not just the best candidate for the job; my exceptional leadership skills, my unparalleled business acumen, and my chiseled good looks are a trifecta of greatness. I mean, can you imagine anyone else at the helm of this project? Anyone else who could bring the level of sophistication, the level of charm, the level of sheer brilliance that I bring. I can't be expected to play second fiddle to Lillian Arturo," Vincent sighs, loosening his tie. "Tell the director I'll think about it, he finally says, buying time to think. Oliver nods, his voice firm. "Already done. The director is expecting your reply within the hour". Vincent runs his hands through his hair, frustrated at the situation. "So what are you going to do?" Oliver asks. "The project is too important to back out. I have no choice but to partner with Art-verse. Schedule a meeting with the CEO of Art-verse. Oliver nods, his eyes understanding. "I've scheduled a meeting with Lillian Arturo for next week to discuss the project details." Vincent scowled, his mind racing with ways to sabotage the partnership. "Fine. But I'm not going to make this easy for her. Get me everything you can on Art-verse: their strengths, weaknesses, and everything. I want to be prepared for this meeting."Oliver nods, his fingers flying across his tablet as he takes notes. "Already on it. I'll have a full report ready for you by the end of the day." As Oliver leaves the office, Vincent's anger simmered just below the surface. He couldn't believe the director would do this to him, force him to work with a woman. But he was determined to come out on top, no matter what it took.
