Chapter 5 My Worst Nightmare.

Tessa's POV.

I blinked my eyes awake as the sun suddenly sprinkled its rays over my face. I guess someone must have opened the window or moved the curtains to the side. However, I could barely pick the image of anything in the room because my gaze was blurry. Not only that, but also, whatever reason why I found myself here was also a blur in my head. The last thing I could recall was that I was packing up and then suddenly, I started screaming, but the rest which seem to be more important, has perhaps vanished into thin air.

However, the sun seemed to burn my retinas so, I tossed myself to other side of the bed, and it was then I realized that I had company in Vivian who seemed to have fallen asleep on the couch in my line of gaze. Just by looking at her, it was rather obvious that she was exhausted. Perhaps, she's been watching over me since the incident. Knowing how much she needed the rest, I turned to the other side of the bed only to find Edward standing in front of me with arms folded across his chest and a raised brow.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, with a tinge of curiosity in his voice. "Any better?"

I thought as much. It didn't look like I was in Vivian's so where else would I be if not the chambers of my mate. Besides, I was actually curious who opened the window or moved the curtains because Vivian was fast asleep, and I don't think she did unless she had developed some kind of powers which I don't think so.

"Yes, I am feeling... argh." I groaned, rubbing the back of my neck. "I am feeling a lot better. But, it seems like I hit my head somewhere when I passed out."

"Well, thankfully you didn't sustain any injury." he said, with a shrug of his shoulder. "So, I guess you will be fine after you get some more rest."

"Tessa?" - the rather familiar voice called with a tinge of uncertainty. "Are you awake?"

"Of course, I am." I said, turning to the other side of the bed. "I just woke up a few minutes ago."

In surprise, she righted herself from the couch and joined me on the bed, darting her gaze back and forth as she stared at me.

"Are you alright?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. "I mean, you just passed out. Are you sure you're alright?"

"Of course, I am." I said, flashing a smile across her worried face. "There is nothing for you to worry about. I'm doing just fine."

"I will be outside." he said, pointing a finger towards the door as he brought our attention back to him.

That was exactly what I wanted. For him to leave, so that I could have a moment with Vivian and ask her what happened exactly because it feels like I'm a little short on the events that transpired while I passed out.

"Alright then." I said, forcing a smile through my lips. "Vivian and I would just talk some more."

I kept him firmly in my gaze as he turned, ambled towards the door, gripped the knob, but then he paused. However, his back was still turned to us. For a moment, he remained that way as if he wanted to say something but didn't think it was the right time to say it.

"What is wrong?" I mouthed, turning to face Vivian with a raised brow. "Why is he waiting?"

"I don't know." she mouthed, with a shrug of her shoulder.

I returned my attention to him, and after a few seconds, perhaps, realizing that he was still in the room even after saying that he would be outside, he turned the doorknob and then stepped out. As he did, I turned my attention to Vivian.

"How long was I out?" I asked, narrowing my gaze at the words.

"Well, you've been out for over eight hours now." she said, as the words seemed to drag themselves from her throat

"Eight hours?" I gasped, my hands flying to cover my mouth. "That long? Why didn't you wake me up? Why allow me to sleep that long?"

"Don't even get me started." she said, adjusting herself on the edge of the bed. "You want me to wake you up after what happened back there? Are you for real? Can you even listen to yourself? Do you know how scared I was back there? In case you don't know, I almost had a heart attack because you kept screaming for me to make it stop."

"Make what stop?" I asked, as a look of confusion seemed to mask my face. "Why was I saying that?"

"Well, I should be asking you that." she said, shooting suspicious glances at me. "How do you expect me to know why you kept saying that. In fact, you were screaming."

"Don't give me that look." I said, evading her gaze.

"Why shouldn't I, huh?" she asked, with an edge to her voice. "I have been waiting for the past eight hours on the couch even though it wasn't comfortable for me because I wanted to be the first person to ask that question when you finally wake up. So, tell me. What was that for?"

"Honestly, I don't know." I said, dropping my gaze to my palms as if they had the answers that I needed. "I just felt this sharp pain in my head and that was it. I passed out."

"Do you recall anything?" she asked, narrowing her gaze at the words as if trying to study my face. "Did you get any visions, what is and what not?"

"Vivian?"

"Come on! There has to be something." she said, using a measured tone. "Barely thirty minutes after Damon left you, that happened, and you think that it's nothing? Come off it Tessa!"

"No, I don't think Damon has anything to do with this." I said, shaking my head as the words left my mouth. "I just felt this sharp pain. It was worse than a migraine and I don't think Damon could have been the cause."

"Says the girl who would do anything for him." she said, with an edge of sarcasm edging her lips. "We can't be so sure. The half-moon mark wasn't supposed to appear on your wrist, and you know that too well. So, what if he had gone to do something that will take it off? Or that might harm you? Or do you think that he can't?"

"I am not going to do this with you." I said, knowing how the conversation would end. "I won't talk about this with you so, you should just forget about it already. Damon won't do anything to hurt me. That much I know."

"Tessa..."

"Enough, alright? That's enough." I said, gripping the side of my head as if to cover my ears. "Besides, what am I even doing here?"

"I don't get." she said, as a look of confusion seemed to mask her face. "What do you mean by what are you doing here? Are you supposed to be somewhere else?"

"Well, it's as simple as it sounds." I said, speaking through my teeth with forced restraint. "What am I doing here?"

"Are you sure you didn't hit your head so hard when you passed out because I don't think I can understand what you're trying to say." she said, squishing her brows. "I mean, you were packing up when I stepped into your room. If you weren't thinking of coming here, then where else were you hoping to go to?"

"I was coming here, but I hadn't fully made up my mind to do so." I said, trying to help her understand from my point of view. "However, all I am asking is that, who brought me here?"

"You don't think I would have carried you, do you?" she asked, narrowing her gaze with a slight shake of her head. "I don't have the strength for that."

"So, are you trying to say..."

"Yes, that's what I am trying to say."

"Vivian!"

"What would you have had me do, huh?" she asked, her voice almost rising to a scream. "You were in pains, Damon had gone, your sister was nowhere to be found. Would you rather I left you there alone all by yourself? I couldn't help the situation all by myself. So, I figured that I had to do something. Besides, you were going to come here anyway. So, why do you feel so bad about it."

"Why do I feel so bad?" I asked, with a raised brow. "Is this really you? If anything, you should understand better why I hate him, and now you're asking why I feel so bad coming down here? Do I need to always remind you that he killed my parents?"

"Tessa..."

"No, it's fine." I said, getting off the bed. "Half-moon mark or not, I'm not staying here."

I made for the door, and as I got close enough to reach for the knob, I lifted a hand, gripped it and just as I turned it open to leave, I found Edward standing in front of me.

"Going somewhere?"
