Chapter 4 Dreams Of Wolves.

My head was spinning. One moment, I was in the clearing, facing that strange man, his wolves, and Dahlia's fierce stare. Then, darkness swallowed me entirely.

I blinked, disoriented. I wasn't even sure I was awake. Shadows are all around me, shifting, pulling at my senses. I could hear the faint sound of water dripping, and silence was heavy, as if I were deep underground.

Where am I?

The earth seemed almost like moss underfoot as I tentatively stepped forward. As I attempted to make sense of what was happening, My chest swelled. I didn't think I had previously been here..

A howl echoed through the dark, sharp and close, sending a shiver down my spine. Then I saw wolves emerging with glowing eyes. Their fur shone under a light I couldn't see. They surrounded me, watching and waiting.

"What do you want?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.

The largest wolf, with its sleek silver coat and deep, unsettling blue eyes, stepped forward and silently snarled with its teeth. As the other wolves began to encircle me, their low threatening growls made my throat tighten.

I tried to run, but my legs wouldn't move. This is not real, I told myself. It must be a nightmare. However, the prickly sensation on my skin, the wolves' rough, hot breath, and the damp ground beneath my feet were all too vivid.

A soft and familiar voice suddenly cut through the silence. Why do you run, Daisy?

As I turned toward the voice, my stomach became twisted. It was the silver-eyed man from the clearing. However, he was now directly in front of me, his gaze icy and sharp. He smiled the same way and relaxed his posture, as if he were just having a conversation.

"I don't know who you are," I retorted, making an effort to maintain my voice.

He looked at me with a head tilt. I think you do. You have always known me inside of you.

I took a big gulp and walked away. You are not real. It's just an imagination.

"Is it?" As he got closer, his eyes lit up. Dreams reveal more than you might think. You can see the truth in them if you are brave enough to look.

I did not respond because I was distracted by the wolves that continued to circle around us. Their unblinking eyes followed my every move, as if they were anticipating something. I wanted to scream and get out of bed, but I couldn't.

"What are you expecting from me?" I asked in an effort to catch his eye.

His voice was low and definitive, and he said, "I believe that you should know."

"Who do you mean?"

I shook my head, my anger boiling over. Who I am is me. This is Daisy. I'm just Daisy.

My skin slithered at his continuous calm laughter. How do you feel about that? Or have you been told the opposite?

I was puzzled as I went to check him out. Even though they were not logical, I didn't want to admit that his statements had a significant impact on me.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, my voice shaking.

He gave me a compassionate look. They kept you hidden. made you feel unworthy. However, Daisy, you are more than that, much more.

It was hard for me to identify the peculiar feeling growing in my chest. I attempted to say that he was wrong and refute it, but I couldn't think of the right words. Rather, I began to recall past events that I had long since forgotten. Sometimes I felt out of place and didn't know what was wrong with me.

With sparkling silver eyes, the man drew closer. You are connected to these wolves and their collective power. Don't let them change your mind.

"Connected?" My heart was beating faster as I whispered. for them? To you?"

He gave a firm nod and focused gaze. You can only use a power that is much older than this pack. older than your sister's aspirations even."

My thoughts raced as I stared at him. He was saying things that couldn't be true and talking in riddles. However, the wolves that were all around me and keeping an eye on me felt familiar like a forgotten part of me.

"Why are you revealing this to me?" With barely a whisper, I asked.

Daisy, because the time has come. a time when you'll have to make a decision. His expression became gloomier. And everything you care about will be lost if you make the wrong choice."

I was grabbed in fear and it was tightening my chest. What are you referring to? Which option is best?"

He didn't reply. He turned to face the largest wolf and gave a slight nod. The wolf took a step forward and looked straight at me. I felt a strange warmth spread through me as it lowered its head and sniffed the air between us, like we were connected by an invisible thread.

The wolf lunged after a blur of motion.

I stumbled back, my heart racing, but I was dragged out of the darkness before I could scream. I gasped as the world spun around me and jumped to my feet.

My breathing became labored as I climbed back into my room, tangled under my bedding. My heart hammered against my ribs, causing my hands to shake.

I whispered to myself, "It was just a dream," in an effort to relax. However, it wasn't like a dream. It appeared to be a warning. Even while I was sleeping, I had the impression that something was calling or reaching out to me.

I jumped when my door was gently tapped. Still dazed, I threw the covers off and stumbled to my feet.

"Daisy?" Dahlia's low, impatient voice was it. Is anyone up?"

I regained my composure by exhaling deeply. Yes, what do you desire?

Dahlia stepped inside when the door opened, her eyes sharp and her expression unclear. She turned to look at me, her eyes lingering on my face as though she were looking for something.

She finally said, her voice irritated, "You were talking in your sleep." kept me up for part of the night."

I grinned. I... didn't know."

Her eyes widened. What did you see in your dream?

With the dream still fresh in my mind, I hesitated. Just... absurd. Nothing significant."

She didn't appear to be convinced. Isn't that absurd? Then, why do you appear so agitated?

I said, "I said it's nothing," trying to keep my voice steady.

Dahlia briefly observed me before shrugging. Fine. But we need to talk about something. important matters.

What exactly? Crossing my arms, I asked.

Her expression became rigid. Father expects us to get ready. The elders will be meeting tonight. They anticipate that we will both be present.

Surprised, I blinked. Me too? Why?"

She said with a scowl, "Because Father thinks it's time for you to step up.'" as if you could actually accomplish anything.

Feeling the familiar sting of her words, I bit my lip. However, I kept the silver-eyed man dream and his warning in my mind. I couldn't ignore the fact that there was something more significant at play.

Dahlia's gaze became icy. Daisy, don't get in my way. You are being warned.

The tension between us felt like a coiled spring about to break, so I took a step back. I said it in a low voice, "I'm not trying to get in your way."

She replied, her voice as sharp as ice, "Good." because doing so will be regrettable.

She turned to leave, but as she approached the door, she stopped and gave me a second look. She had an odd look in her eyes, which might have been a glimmer of fear or unease. It vanished after that, and she left, leaving me alone in the silence.

My thoughts were racing as I sank back onto the bed. There was some connection between the man, the wolves, and the dream. I was even more certain when Dahlia looked at me as though she knew something I wasn't saying.

There would be something. A test, a choice. And if I didn't take care, I would lose everything.
