Chapter 4 The plan

Claudia's eyes locked onto Laura's, her voice laced with caution. "Will you report me to the police?"

Laura's smile was a slow, calculated curve. "No, actually. I had no intention of that. I just said all that to get your attention."

Claudia's gaze narrowed. "So what's the catch? What do you want? You're obviously not setting me loose for free."

Laura's eyes sparkled with amusement. "You are such a sharp girl, Claudia. Smart, beautiful, talented... that's why I like you. And that's why I decided I want to work with you."

Claudia's instincts screamed warning, but Laura's words dripped like honey, sweet and alluring.

"Yes, there is a catch," Laura continued. "I've known about your affair with my son for a long time. I didn't say anything, but when you made your move, when Aurora was about to give birth... I knew you were getting impatient."

Claudia's heart skipped a beat. How did Laura know?

"I decided to come because I want to tell you that I believe you deserve more than being a mistress," Laura said, her voice dripping with sincerity. "You're beautiful, talented, thoughtful... and decisive. You'll make a better partner for Blake than Aurora ever could."

Claudia's mind reeled. Laura's words were a siren's call, tempting her with promises of power and legitimacy.

"Aurora has a son now," Claudia said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Would you want to ditch her for me still?"

Laura's smile was a cold, calculated thing. "Why not? Blood ties are overrated. Ambition and loyalty are what truly matter."

Claudia's resolve crumbled, Laura's words weaving a web of deceit and promise around her.

"What do you propose?" Claudia asked, her voice barely audible.

Laura's eyes gleamed with triumph. "Let's discuss the details, shall we?"

Aurora welcomed her dear friend Alice into her home, grateful for the company. As they sipped their drinks, Alice's words brought back memories of that fateful night.

"I thought you'd never make it, Aurora," Alice said, her voice filled with emotion. "I was so scared for you and your baby."

Aurora's smile faltered, her mind drifting back to the darkness she'd faced. "I was ready to give up, Alice. I felt like a failure, letting Blade deceive me so easily."

Alice's eyes sparkled with understanding. "You weren't stupid, Aurora. You were blinded by love. But I'm glad I was there to stop you from making a terrible mistake."

Aurora shuddered at the memory. She'd attempted to take her own life, overwhelmed by Blade's infidelity. But Alice's words had pierced the darkness, reminding her of her worth, her father's love, and her unborn child's future.

"Thank God for you, Alice," Aurora said, her voice trembling. "I owe you my life."

Alice's expression turned serious. "Aurora, I have something to tell you. Blade's not just cheating on you with one woman. He has five mistresses."

Aurora's eyes widened in shock. "Five?"

Alice nodded. "And one of them is right under your nose, living in your house."

Aurora's mind reeled. "Who?"

Alice's voice dropped to a whisper. "Blair, your kitchen maid."

Aurora's world crumbled. She'd trusted Blair, considered her a friend.

"How long?" Aurora asked, her voice barely audible.

Alice's expression was grim. "I'm not sure, but I've been investigating. Blade's been using his wealth and influence to keep his secrets buried."

Aurora's heart hardened. She knew what she had to do.

Aurora's world shattered as she processed the devastating news. Blair, her trusted kitchen maid, was having an affair with her husband, Blade. The betrayal cut deep, not just because of Blade's infidelity, but because Blair was someone Aurora had helped multiple times.

She remembered the countless times she'd bailed Blair's family out of financial trouble, offering a listening ear and a supportive shoulder. Yet, Blair had repaid her kindness with deceit.

To make matters worse, Blair was married to Paul, a kind and loving man who adored his family. Aurora couldn't fathom why Blair would risk everything for a illicit affair with Blade.

Fear crept in as Aurora wondered if she was safe in her own home. Had Blair's desperation driven her to madness? Would she stop at nothing to keep her secret safe?

Determined to protect herself and her son, Aurora confided in her friend Alice. "I have to get Blair out of the house, but I need to be strategic. If Blade suspects anything, he'll become suspicious."

Alice nodded in agreement. "You can't let Blair stay. She's a ticking time bomb."

"Should I just kick Blair out of the house? But what if Blade gets suspicious?" Aurora said, her brow furrowed in concern.

Alice's calming presence soothed Aurora's worries. "Relax, my friend," Alice said with a reassuring smile. "Take a deep breath and think it through. The perfect plan will come to you. You'll find a way to get Blair out of here."

Aurora's resolve hardened. "I'll make sure Blair leaves, but it has to be her own doing. I'll play it cool, make her think she's still got the upper hand."

With a calculated calm, Aurora began to weave a web of deception, setting the stage for Blair's downfall.

Laura's proposal left Claudia stunned. The older woman's eyes burned with an unsettling intensity as she revealed her sinister plan: to murder Aurora's infant and drive a wedge between Aurora and Blade, her own son.

Claudia was taken aback, despite having harbored similar desires. The depth of Laura's desperation mirrored her own, forging an unholy alliance between them.

Claudia sipped her juice, her eyes locked on Laura's. "Would you like a cup?" she asked, her voice laced with caution.

Laura declined, her gaze piercing. "I'll get straight to the point, Claudia. You're wondering why you should trust me."

Claudia's eyes narrowed. "Exactly. Your daughter-in-law is rich, adores you, and just gave you a grandson. Why would you want to destroy their marriage? And more importantly..." Claudia's voice dropped to a whisper, "Why would you want to kill your own grandson? Your own flesh and blood?"

Laura's expression remained enigmatic, her eyes glinting in the dim light.
