Chapter 8 Lexie's POV

Chapter 7

Lexie's POV

I woke up feeling refreshed the next morning, the sunlight streaming through my window was refreshing. Today was going to be a good day or so I thought. That is until I glanced at the clock and realized I had only a few hours to get ready for work. "Oh no!" I exclaimed, scrambling out of bed. I couldn't afford to be late, especially after yesterday. There was no way I was going to give Ethan more avenue to belittle me or emphasize the fact that my position was temporary.

I rushed into the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and hopped into the shower. I had so little time to do everything. Thank goodness I had picked out my outfit the night before. I slipped into a fitted dress that hugged my curves just right, hoping it would help me project the professionalism I needed. Once I was dressed, I quickly packed my bag with all my necessary documents and my phone, mentally preparing myself for the day ahead.

With everything in order, I dashed out of my apartment. I had to grab coffee for Elizabeth before heading to the office. Why the fuck did I volunteer to get her coffee from her favourite cafe? And the issue was if I arrived empty-handed, she would give me a hard time, and I didn't want to deal with that. Plus, the coffee shop was conveniently located near the bus stop.

I hurried to the bus station hoping I was on time and luckily for me, I was. I got down at my location, dodging a few people because there were numerous people on the streets. Everyone was going about their duty. I walked hurriedly to the cafe to get her coffee. Normally, I would get some doughnuts but that wasn't going to happen today.

After grabbing the coffee, I quickened my pace, walking briskly toward the office building. There was an elevator that was just closing and I rushed to stop it. Maybe if I had been paying more attention to my surroundings, I would have noticed the other person in the elevator. I murmured my thanks as I tried to catch my breath.

The doors slid shut, and as I turned around, I was met with the last person I expected to see-Ethan. He stood there, his expression unreadable as he stared at me.

I was not expecting this to happen at least not today but maybe this was my chance. We were the only ones in the elevator and after what Sarah had said to me the previous night perhaps I shouldn't be so judgemental and try to speak with him.

Sarah's words had been ringing in my ear nonstop. And I knew it was because what she said was reasonable. It was a more credible explanation as to why things had happened that way and I shouldn't be mine to jump to conclusions so quickly.

"Good morning Mr. Blackwood." I greeted him with a calm voice.

He gave me a passing glance before greeting me in response.

I hesitated but I also knew it was my chance. Maybe the Ethan I was still daydreaming about wasn't ignoring me on purpose.

"Um..about the other night..."

He gave me an irritated look. "What other night?" He asked me.

I swallowed. Was he pretending? Or could it be that he did not remember? No, maybe I was just jumping to conclusions. I shouldn't do that.

"The night we met at the club.."

"Is that related to the work you are about to do this morning?" He asked me with a raised eyebrow.

"We..well no. But I was just...I.."

"You were what?" He asked me.

"I..." At this point, I had no idea what to say.

Should I tell him I wanted to know if he remembered me because there was no way I had forgotten about him? Or maybe I should ask him if he would like a repeat of that night. But he was. my boss and by the looks of it, he was a jerk also.

"If you think that's going to help your place in this company become more permanent then you have to think again. We only give promotions to competent staff." He said to me,

I paused, mortified. "Wait, wait a minute. So you think I'm bringing this up because I want a permanent position in this company?" I asked him.

I mean I do but did he think so low of me? Did he see me as someone who would do something as shitty as that?

"Why else would you bring up a night we slept together? A night we should both forget about?" He asked me

As at this point, I could say that without bias or hasty conclusions, Ethan did remember me. But perhaps he remembers me as a slut in that twisted brain of his.

"A night we should both forget about." I muttered to myself before turning to him "So you know who I am." I said to him,

"I don't forget people easily." He told me.

"Oh," I chuckled. "I thought you did."

"If that is all Miss. Thompson, we have work to do and I would like a moment of quiet before we get off this elevator." He said to me,

I glanced at the floor we were in and noticed we were almost to my floor. And if he thought I was going to let him have the last word, he thought wrong.

"You know what, get over yourself," I said to him,

He turned to me sharply. "What?"

"Get over your fucking self, Ethan. I slept with you before finding out you were the new CEO and even after every little shite you did yesterday, I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I was like perhaps he is not a fucking jerk. Perhaps I was just seeing things from my fucking perspective. But no, you are a fucking jerk and a bastard. If you think that I brought this up I would get a permanent position here because my position being temporary is all you can think about, then think again. You think I'm not good at this, think again. I'll show you just how good I can be at this job and oh.." I said like I just remembered something but I was on a roll.

"Some coffee for you," I said to him as I poured the black coffee all over him.

Without waiting for a response from him, I walked out of the elevator because as luck would have it, it was opened on my floor. Maybe if I had been more level-headed, I would have thought about the repercussions of challenging my boss and pouring Elizabeth's coffee on him.

"Where is my coffee?" Elizabeth asked me with narrowed eyes.

"Oh shit."
