Chapter 6 Six

Athaliah closed her eyes, counting in her head. She didn't know why she had reached out in the first place. Moving from Ontario has been a huge deal for her, after settling in Manitoba, she has made sure she has avoided anything that has to do with Ontario.

Although she was counting in her bed, she could hear the pilot announcing and informing everyone to get ready for landing. She sucked in her breath and continued counting.

".....1248, 1249, 1250, 1251...."

"Ma'am, Ma'am"

"....1254, 1255, 1256, 1257....."

A tap on her arm made Athaliah's eyes fly open, her eyes met the concerned eyes of the flight attendant standing in front of her.

"I need you tuck in your seatbelt and get ready for landing" she informed her slowly and Athaliah nodded her head.

The flight attendant turned to leave and then paused "Are you okay ma'am? Do you need me to get you a bottle of water?" She asked gingerly and Athaliah shook her head.

"Thank you, I'm fine" she replied and the flight attendant merely nodded her head and walked away.

Athaliah closed her eyes again, choosing to end her counting . The plane slowly landed and Athaliah slowly patted her chest as she got down from the plane.

The air felt familiar, the skies, the people, it didn't feel like she had left at all. Memories washed over her and Athaliah chuckled, this was why she had taken ro her heels in the first place.

Her parents hadn't understood, neither had Kate understood it. The reason why she left. Indeed all the memories she had of Callum were cold, unfeeling memories but those memories had a chokehold on her, this state just didn't hold some u palatable memories for her, it held her unfulfilled dreams, her miserably failed marriage.

With a wave of her hand, a taxi stopped in front of her and she got into, unscrewing the cap of the bottle of water she had ended up getting from the flight attendant.

"Hi" Athaliah called and the flight attendant turned to her with a flash of surprise running across her face.

"Is there something I can help you with?" She asked politely.

"The bottle of water, can I still have it?" Athaliah asked in reply and the flight attendant blinked her eyes twice.

"Huh?"

"The bottle of water, can I still have it?" Athaliah repeated.

As for why she has actually gone back to take the bottle of water, Athaliah had no idea. She allowed her head to bend backwards, taking multiple gulps of water until there was little water left in the bottle.

Nobody knew she was around, not her parents, not Kate, not Callum. For Callum, Athaliah had forced and instructed herself not to think of her failed marriage, her loveless marriage.

Athaliah remembered her mom bursting into tears when she informed her parents she and Callum had gotten divorced. She watched her mom weep while blaming herself for putting her daughter through such torture, if the family hadn't gotten into financial problems; they wouldn't have to gotten their daughter married into a loveless marriage.

Her father had just asked her what was next, but she knew her parents, they were blaming themselves. Unlike her usual self or comforting them, she had refused to do so even if she knew it wasn't their fault.

It was her fault for not loving Callum. Callum's fault for not falling in love with her. It's both their fault for not making their marriage work.

Ignoring everything about Ontario was easy but ignoring anything concerning the Sinclair's was impossible. Their status and fame made it impossible, that was how Athaliah knew that Callum had closed a deal with the Japanese government; something the government of Canada had tried for years but was always unsuccessful.

She knew that Callum hadn't married. She tries to imagine what his parents would have said or looked like when he told them that they had gotten divorced. His parents weren't very fond of her, the way their son wasn't so she avoided them altogether.

The taxi came to a stop and Athaliah immediately paid and got down. A glance at her wristwatch told her that she was right on time. She hoped the meeting would end quickly, she has already planned to leave after the meeting and has already had her secretary book her return ticket.

She hadn't told anyone she was coming back after two years, running into anyone would be too awkward for her. Her firm steps lead her into the high end restaurant showing the attendant her reservation. She allowed herself to be led to the private rooms before taking a seat.

President Collins had an habit of coming early to meet business partners as a way of having leeway over them so to get an upper hand, Athaliah had chosen to beat him at his own game. Coming an hour before the appointment time.

She quickly brought out their proposal document and went through it repeatedly and like she had thought, President Collins did show up about 35 minutes towards their meeting time.

Athaliah immediately stood up to exchange pleasantries with him. Her eyes didn't miss the surprise look on his face.

"President Athaliah?" He asked unsure and Athaliah nodded her head.

"I'm glad you gave us this opportunity" Athaliah replied and pointed to the seat in front of her, "Please have your seat"

Collins was everything she has seen on social media. Over 18 years older, looked strict but was extremely cunning, his beards were trimmed low and he of course had a hard time buttoning both his shirt and jacket over his stomach. His stomach was easily as big as a barrel. He wasn't handsome, he wasn't bad looking either but he was someone you wouldn't mind seating next to.

She adjusted herself in her chair uncomfortable with President Collins' eyes that seemed to be boring into her soul.

"Nobody told me you were this pretty" Collins started shining his teeth and Athaliah smiled lightly.

"I'll take the compliment. Thank you" she replied pushing the proposal document towards him, "This is a revised proposal, you can look at it and let me know if you have any questions"

"I'll invest" Collins replied and Athaliah stared at him in surprise.

"Huh? You haven't opened the proposal" she pointed out in surprise.

"I saw the one you sent before. You are quite immaculate President Athaliah, you even came earlier than me, I thought your flight would just be landing" he replied and Athaliah could almost roll her eyes.

Men and their damned egos. He couldn't stomach the fact that someone beat him at his overly punctual game?

"I had an early flight, that's why, '' she replied, maintaining a polite smile. No matter how shitty Collins was, she needed his investment so she just had to hold on until he agreed to sign.

Collins' hand stretched out and covered Athaliah's own on the table and the latter immediately shot a look of surprise at him.

"Don't act so surprised. This is the price for investing in your project" he announced and disgust welled up in Athaliah as she tried to pull her hand away from his grip.

"President Collins, that wasn't our agreement. I won't be involved in such a shady business" she spat irritated trying to pull her hand out of his grip but the latter was holding her more tightly shining his teeth.

"What's so special about you? Everyone does this, don't you need my investment?" He asked with a sneer.

"President Collins, let me go. I already told you that I won't be a part of this shady business. Let me go before I shout for help" Athaliah threatened while Collins merely smiled brighter.

"Try it"

Barely had he finished speaking when someone lifted the veil of the private room, grabbed Collins arm and twisted it.

"Haaaaaaaa! Who are you?" Collins groaned in agony trying to turn his already rumbled face to see who had grabbed him.

"You should have thought twice before touching her*

"Callum"
