Chapter 5 Walking Right Into The Trap

The night before, Waylon hadn't really thought about it, but by morning, the issue hit him.

Two years ago, when Lorenzo had officially rejoined the Hughes family, Waylon had arranged for a background check on both him and Gracie.

As soon as Waylon laid eyes on Gracie the previous night, he recognized her without hesitation.

Though neither Lorenzo nor Gracie had ever met him, Gracie seemed to know exactly who he was and was even aware of his whereabouts. That was something he needed to look into.

Gracie's face stiffened for a brief moment, and she blinked several times.

Come to think of it... in addition to being a housewife, she had once been the famous hacker known as Alex.

"I heard it, of course, when Lanny told Lorenzo," Gracie responded.

If there was ever a moment to throw Lorenzo and Lanny under the bus, it was now.

"Lanny?"

Waylon's gaze darkened, and he fell into deep thought.

He then moved closer to Gracie, his strong, broad fingers resting lightly on the back of her neck, sending a tense energy through the air.

"You'd better tell me everything, or I won't hesitate to show you what happens when you lie to me."

Gracie felt the weight of his intense stare, nearly choking under it.

Waylon was clearly dangerous. Last night, he had been intimate with her, but tonight, he seemed dead serious, ready to take matters to a much darker place.

If it weren't for her quest for justice, Gracie would have never willingly engaged with someone so cold and merciless.

"It's true... Lorenzo wanted your approval, so he had Lanny find out where you were," Gracie confessed.

She was confident in her statement, as she knew Lorenzo and Lanny had indeed done it before, leaving her unafraid of Waylon's threats.

Noticing she wasn't lying, Waylon finally let go of her and sat back, straightening up. "Fine."

Waylon's eyes drifted to Gracie's hand, noticing the blood. "What happened to your hand?"

Gracie took a deep breath, cursing to herself. What an unpredictable man!

"It's just a small cut from some broken glass."

Waylon's brow furrowed as he heard her, and he reached for the first aid kit next to the car seat.

Gracie was a bit surprised. He actually had some decency, offering to help her with the bandage.

But then, in the next instant, Waylon threw two towels at her.

"Use these to protect the seats."

Well...

Gracie's expression tightened slightly.

She had been overthinking things. How could she have expected Waylon, who cared nothing for family ties, to show any kindness?

Gracie placed the towels under her hand without a word. Then, she heard Waylon's phone ring.

Greg's voice came through, serious as ever. "Mr. Hughes, I've just been informed that a hacker broke into our internal network last night. The tech team only found out about it now. Fortunately, the data is intact, and we haven't lost anything. I've already asked them to investigate further."

Gracie caught the mention of "hacker" and couldn't help but let out a quiet sigh to herself.

Waylon's security team still had a lot of work to do. She had purposely left signs of her intrusion the previous night, and it took them this long to notice.

The reason she had left traces was simple...

Gracie glanced at Waylon, noticing his expression change. The mood around him immediately shifted to something more tense. "Make sure to catch this person, no matter what it takes."

Gracie couldn't help but smile to herself.

Yes, she wanted her target to walk right into the trap.

Once the call ended, Waylon fixed a dark look on Gracie. She quickly wiped the smile from her face.

"Don't worry, Waylon. I didn't hear a thing."

"Then get lost."

Gracie didn't take offense to his rude words. She just smiled softly. "Thank you for the ride, Waylon. Goodnight."

After stepping out of the car, Gracie watched the Bugatti drive off, her expression serious, no trace of a smile left.

At that moment, her phone buzzed with a message from Lorenzo.

"We're already divorced. Stop having Paulina call me all the time!"

Gracie gripped her phone tightly, her heart swirling with rage and hatred.

She could never erase Paulina's final words from her mind.

"I wish Daddy could be here with me."

Since Lorenzo was so indifferent to their daughter and didn't give her the fatherly love she deserved, Gracie made up her mind to show him what it was like to lose it all.
