Chapter 5 A SUPPORT SYSTEM

ALICE POV

Arnold stormed into the garden furiously, he was always like that whenever he was furious. "What is the meaning of this Alice? I am in the middle of a mess, and you are not making things easier for me. Both of us are aware that everything you said in that podcast was a lie. How do you think the late boy's parents will feel hearing all these lies about their own son?". You could really tell that Arnold was just whining and it was really annoying.

I stood up and looked him straight in the eye to prove my point, "what did I do wrong? Or would you rather want our son to be called names just because you don't want to hurt anybody? The dead boy's family will move on, but our son is still alive, and I cannot watch him suffer or go through discrimination over a little issue" I shouted back at Arnold. "Do you know one of the problems that Arnold Jnr has? It's you! You are always supporting him even when he keeps messing things up, you will always be by his side cheering up his useless attitude, and that is why he can never change. We are here to always help him, but what about the day that we wont be present, I really want to see what happens", "Trust me Arnold, that day isn't going to come, not any sooner" I shouted back. Arnold looked at me and heaved a sigh of exhaustion, he left without saying anything else.

If you will like to know what I did, you will be surprised to find out it's nothing serious. I only held a podcast and bashed the rumors circulating about my son being a bully, and the reason why a student had to commit suicide. I further stated in my podcast that the deceased student was from a poor background and was very notorious, a drug addict, who sometimes misbehaved and hallucinated whenever he had an overdose of the substances he took. I don't care if what I said is the truth or not, but I think it is the best thing to do at this moment, after all they say "Dead men tell no tales". The dead kid isn't going to come back from the underworld to defend himself.

I am not denying the fact that Arnold Jnr is really a pain in the neck, but that is not and will never be his fault. He was born into wealth, he needs to exercise the power that comes with wealth. What happened with that kid was a mistake, and I'm very sure that Arnold Jnr never envisaged that boy falling to his death. While my husband is looking for a way to make peace, I will use every tool and means possible to get what I want.

Well, come to think of it, I am a very good actress and support system. I act so concerned, but I am also a deadly virus that is eating up everything from the inside. I'll keep up with this attitude until I get what I want. I heard my phone ringing and I guessed who the caller might be, I smiled when I saw that I didn't make a wrong guess. It was my mother in-law calling, I sighed before picking the call. I am in for another sermon and therapy session.

"Alice, what is this I hear? Are you trying to make issues more complicated? Your husband called and told me everything, why would you say such things in your podcast? I know you are trying to save Arnold Jnr's face, but you're doing it in the wrong way. Don't forget, those poor folks are customers of our products and services. If we get them angry and they boycott us, it will be bad for business, no matter how much we are disgusted by them, we should just tolerate them for the sake of business". I was already getting tired of the sermon, I am an adult and I did what's best for my child.

"Well mum, the whole house is in chaos, my husband and son are at loggerheads, and for what? All because of a good for nothing who was a coward, more than he was a man. I had to do something real quick and you wouldn't blame me for that, would you? I was only trying to save the day". I tired to explain. "I have heard you Alice, just make sure you know what you are doing, take care" my mother in-law said as she ended the call.

It was typical of her son, my husband to call and tell her everything that happened, I don't care anymore because I'm already used to that.

I sat back down smiling mischievously, my plans were already in motion, now I just had to watch everything unfold. Trust me, whoever is getting whatever they are getting now deserves it, and more is still coming.
