Chapter 5 Breakfast Revelations

Angie composed herself, realizing she stood before him with messy hair and an unwashed face. Embarrassed, she hastily ran her fingers through her hair and covered her face, retreating to the bathroom.

Charlie glanced at her flustered state. His brow twitched slightly as he remarked, "It's not our wedding night. I've seen you just wake up before. Why hide?"

This had nothing to do with how long they'd been married! Angie had never been aware of being married before!

She didn't explain, rushing to the bathroom to check for puffy eyes. Looking down, she realized his bathroom lacked her toiletries.

Unsure if Charlie would move back to the master bedroom, she dashed there during his absence. Opening the cabinet, she gathered her spare toiletries and transferred them to his room.

Now, no matter which room he stayed in, she'd claimed her space! Let's see where he can hide now!

Angie changed and went downstairs for breakfast. Her favorite custard toast waited on the table.

As she sat, Charlie placed a glass of warm milk from Grandmother Betty before her.

At the table, Angie took the milk, ate some toast, glanced at Charlie, sipped the milk, and then looked at him again. Her eyes barely left him throughout breakfast.

Grandmother Betty, bustling with tableware, watched with a delighted smile, quietly ushering the maid to the kitchen.

Angie took another bite, oblivious to the custard at her mouth's corner, her gaze fixed on the man before her. He had finished and was casually flipping through a business magazine.

His clear-cut features, high bridge of the nose, and handsome profile seemed divinely crafted, and flawless.

Charlie paused his page-turning, calmly meeting the gaze of the young woman who seemed glued to him as if he might vanish any moment.

Angie snapped back, quickly raising her toast to hide her face and taking a large gulp of milk.

She drank too hastily, choking and coughing as she set down her cup and toast. "Cough... cough..."

Charlie offered a napkin, and seeing her coughing fit, wiped the custard from her mouth himself. "You've been acting strange since yesterday. Enjoy staring at me that much?"

"Cough cough cough..."

Angie's coughing wasn't that severe, but hearing his words, she deliberately coughed more.

Grandmother Betty hurried out. "Madam, what's wrong? Coughing badly?"

"Cough, it's nothing. Just choked on some milk..."

"That's a relief. Oh, Miss Daisy mentioned she'd be staying at Flower Garden today. Should I prepare extra for dinner?"

Angie's expression remained unchanged. After a couple more coughs, she turned and said, "Grandmother Betty, please tidy up the guest room my sister often uses. From now on, try not to let her stay overnight at Flower Garden."

"But Miss Daisy is coming today..."

"I'll explain it to her. After all, Flower Garden isn't part of the Morrison family. It's not very convenient for her to come and go so frequently."

Grandmother Betty felt immensely satisfied upon hearing this. She had always found it improper how Morrison's second daughter frequently stayed at Flower Garden, constantly inquiring about Mr Bennett and his whereabouts, acting as if she belonged there.

Without delay, Grandmother Betty hurried off to clear out the guest room.

Suddenly, Charlie's phone on the table vibrated softly.

Assuming it was just a service message, and seeing Charlie engrossed in an English summary, Angie glanced at the screen and, noticing the text, reached for his phone.

[Brother Charlie, please don't be angry with my sister. I had no idea she would actually drug you the night before last. She originally planned to send you to another woman's bed, but I tried to talk her out of it for ages. How long will you two keep tormenting each other like this? Will it ever lead to a good outcome? I feel sorry for my sister, but I feel even worse for you, Brother Charlie!]

After reading, Angie raised an elegant eyebrow.

"Is your phone number known to many people?" Angie looked up.

Charlie glanced at her, casually setting aside the magazine.

"Many people? Who do you mean?"

Angie recalled that few people knew Charlie's private number, and he rarely gave it out.

"I didn't realize Daisy was so concerned about our relationship. She even texts you frequently about my affairs." Angie smiled, deliberately adding a hint of obvious jealousy to her gaze.

Charlie regarded her suppressed expression and countered, "Didn't you give her my number?"

"..."

Come to think of it, that might have happened...

Daisy often played with her phone, and Angie hadn't paid attention to when she might have secretly noted down Charlie's private number.

"She may send messages, but that doesn't mean I read them," Charlie added nonchalantly.

Hearing this, Angie instinctively scrolled down, finding dozens of unread messages.

Apart from company email notifications, there were indeed many unread messages from Daisy. Opening a few at random, she found they generally played the role of a caring sister, ostensibly speaking on behalf of her sister, while actually portraying Angie as unreasonable and even cruel.

Truly ambitious!

Noticing her sudden silence, Charlie said calmly, "Youth doesn't equal innocence, and family ties don't guarantee complete trust. Recognizing this sooner rather than later might not be a bad thing."

Angie looked at the man before her in surprise, seemingly aware of everything all along.

No wonder Charlie rarely came home when Daisy stayed here. He had probably seen through Daisy's improper little intentions long ago.

She should have woken up her ten-year-old self! How could she have been so careless?

Angie smacked herself on the head a couple of times, accidentally hitting the spot she'd bumped last night. She hissed in pain, her whole face scrunching up.

Charlie stood up and came over, pulling her hand away. Examining her still-swollen forehead, his brow furrowed silently. "Isn't it painful enough? Must you add injury to injury before you're satisfied?"

Angie looked up, tears nearly welling up from the pain. Seeing his stern expression, she adopted a remorseful look and said, "I won't let others casually stay at Flower Garden anymore. Did I cause you trouble recently?"

"Nothing related to you is trouble. The decision is yours in these matters." Charlie cradled her head, inspecting the injury on her forehead. He turned and called for a servant, "Reapply the medicine we brought back last night for her."

Everything about her was far from troublesome...

A wave of warmth washed over Angie as she threw herself into Charlie's arms. Tackled twice already that morning, Charlie had grown used to her sudden bursts of affection. He gazed down at her small head nuzzling his chest and gently stroked her hair.

"Go rest if you're full. It's getting chilly with autumn here. Don't catch a cold," he murmured.

"Eat and sleep? Raising me like a pig?" Angie mumbled; face still buried in his embrace.

Noticing shy looks from passing servants, she hastily pulled away. Charlie's eyes met hers with an enigmatic smile.

"Isn't that what you usually do?" he asked.

"That was..." Angie trailed off.

Before, she'd reluctantly shared breakfast with him, rushing through and making excuses to retreat to her room, unwilling to spend an extra minute in his company.

"Ahem, just haven't been sleeping well lately. Quick nap after breakfast, that's all," Angie explained, poking her cheek. "See? Good sleep means good skin!"

Charlie chuckled at her flimsy excuse, not bothering to argue.

Seeing his disbelief, she grabbed his hand and pressed it to her face. "Don't believe me? Feel for yourself - smooth and soft, right?"

Charlie's warm fingertips caressed her cheek. Angie held his hand but couldn't control his touch. Suddenly, he cupped her chin, causing her face to flush as he leaned in close.

"Indeed, smooth and soft," he murmured in a low, husky voice meant only for her.

Those words, originally meant for just her face, took on a new meaning from his lips. They hinted at something that made her heart race...

"Is my wife trying to seduce me so blatantly to keep me from work?" Charlie whispered against her lips, barely an inch from a kiss.

Angie's heart skipped a beat.

How could he be so alluring?

How could Charlie be this irresistible?

In her past life, she must've been crazy to keep him at arm's length! Who said successful businessmen had to be cold and boring in marriage?

He was driving her wild!
