Fredrick gave me a puzzled look as if my words were incomprehensible or in a language he couldn't understand. "What are you talking about, dude?" he asked, clearly bewildered. I yearned to explain, but with so many unanswered questions, I couldn't settle down.
I quickly jotted down, "We have to go. This instant."
"To where? Fenrir, you're not making sense," Fredrick protested. "And the grand summit... Something is happening there and it is chaotic. As Alpha, your presence is needed."
Determined, I wrote back, "Let's go," my gaze conveying a clear warning that I wouldn't accept no for an answer.
Without waiting for his response, I stormed off, making a beeline for the car. As I revved the engine to life, Fredrick jumped in, still dazed by my lack of detailed explanation.
As we rounded the corner, my eyes scanned the darkness, with my instincts on high alert.
"Are you sure we are going the right way?" Fredrick asked, but I ignored him. Mainly because I couldn't pick up my jotter to start mentioning anything.
For all I know, my instincts were leading me down this road; I had to see where it would take me.
And then, I saw her - the strange lady, her slender body limp and battered, surrounded by a group of men who seemed to be taking great pleasure in her pain.
A low growl rumbled in my chest, I dashed out of the car and sprang into action.
" Fenrir!" Fredrick yelled behind me, but I didn't pay attention to his words, lost in the chaos that erupted as I took down the men with swift and deadly precision, and soon he joined in.
As soon as the man was down, I hurried towards the lady; she lay limp, resting her back on the damaged car.
She's brutally beaten, I thought as I scanned her body. Something snapped within me, and at that moment, I felt like killing those men all over again, but we didn't have time for that.
If you can hear me, Are you okay? You don't have to speak, just nod. Now more than ever, I hoped she would hear my thoughts.
She nodded, her eyes repeatedly blinking; she was trying to stay awake.
Everything will be fine, I promise you will be fine. I thought, but she didn't react, instead her eyes closed up.
"Miss! Miss!"
"Fenrir, we have to go," Fredrick yelled, and I nodded, lifting her weightless body in my arms. I led her to the car and carefully placed her in the back seat.
The car halted at the nearest hospital we could find. I jumped out of the car and opened the passenger door, slowly moving in. I held the strange lady in my arms like a delicate flower.
Fredrick was returning with a few nurses by the time I successfully brought her out. I placed her on the stretcher and she was wheeled away.
Fredrick and I followed suit, but we were prohibited from going any further. "What was that?" Fredrick asked after a minute of silence.
I sighed and took out my jotter and pen. "It's a long story." I wrote.
"Well, it seems like we have all the time in the world. I have to understand what's going on." He said and I nodded in understanding.
"We just met, the lady and I. I don't know her name, she turned out to be my mate, but the connection between us is a lot different than I had ever imagined." I wrote, tearing the sheet, and handed it to Frederick.
He sat beside me on the waiting chair, while I continued writing. "She hears my thoughts. I don't know how she could possess such power, but it is the truth. I tried to talk to her. However, she didn't seem quite okay; she was looking disoriented, with tears in her eyes; when she tried to leave at first, I noticed the dried blood on her hands. She was hurt, I couldn't let her go just like that. Reasons why I told you to come with me."
By the time Frederick was done reading, he let out a long sigh. "If this is true, then that lady in there is pure gold Fenrir. This is a miracle from the Goddess."
I wrote in response, "Indeed, but she's adamant; she doesn't seem like someone who wants to have anything to do with me."
"We can't give up hope now, no matter how hard and tough she gets, we have to make it our mission to convince her; she's your mate, Fenrir, the soon to be Luna of Wind winder pack."
I jotted the words I dread to think about, " What if she rejects me?"
MINUTES LATER
I sat in the chair, my eyes fixed on the floor as Fredrick paced back and forth beside me. We had been waiting for what felt like an eternity for news about the mysterious woman. Suddenly, a doctor approached us in hurried steps, stopping in front of us.
"Who is closely related to the patient?" he asked, his eyes scanning us both. "Husband or brother."
Fredrick immediately replied, "My friend here is her husband."
I nodded in agreement, still trying to process the situation.
"Please come with me," the doctor said, leading me away from Fredrick. "It appears she's having a convulsion."
I followed him, my mind racing with questions. What the heck is going on now? I hope she's safe.
We arrived at the ward, and I rushed to her side. She was trembling badly, her body shaking. I held her hand, feeling a surge of panic. I couldn't speak, couldn't jot down my words. I was completely helpless.
Goddess! I didn't even know her name.
So, I did the only thing that came to mind - I kissed her. My lips locked with hers; they were extremely soft, having an aftertaste of wine. Like magic, she stopped trembling, her body going stiff.
I broke the kiss and backed up, scared that I had made things worse. But the doctor stepped in, immediately checking her vitals.
"She's stable," he said. "You've somehow managed to calm her down." There was amusement in his voice like he didn't believe what had just happened in his midst.
I was stunned, it seemed I was much more connected to her than I had imagined.
The doctor continued, "We'll need to run some tests. In the meantime, you can stay with the patient." He said and I nodded.
