Chapter 4 Rejected and running

Aurora's pov.

The sound of birds singing with their beautiful voices coupled with loving mate calls filled my ears. My eyes fluttered open and I woke up to a familiar environment. My dormitory.

"What Happened? How did I end up here?" I questioned myself while rubbing my eyelids. I slipped into my flip flops and headed to the bathroom and washed my face and used the toilet. All the while, I kept wondering where Remi had gone.

Immediately I stepped out of the bathroom, I met Remi staring at me. Her gaze held mixed emotions of fear, doubt and confusion.

"What? Why are you staring at me that way?" I asked, toothbrush in between my mouth. I walked to my study desk and sat, raising one of my legs while brushing my teeth.

"Where did you go yesterday?" She asked with intensity.

My face contorted in confusion, I crossed my arms and tilted my head trying to remember what happened yesterday.

"I don't remember" I let out.

Remi sat at her bed and crossed her legs "I can't believe I have the blood wolf with me. Here in my room. The legends are actually true" Remi muttered to herself, while rubbing her forehead.

"What do you mean by legends?" I was puzzled.

Remi then stared at me dumbfoundedly before speaking up "you don't know about it? Oh my! Where did you come from? The caveman?" She asked in a joking tone. I rolled my eyes and answered.

"Just tell me what this red blood wolf is". Remi adjusted herself and leaned forward, her hands on her chin as she spoke. "When I was little my grandmother told me a story of the red moon or blood moon. This story is about a wolf, he killed a lot of people and wolves under the moon that his white furs changed to red. It was said that he was trying to protect his kind from the humans but it took a wild turn and he killed over a thousand people and wolves." She paused, staring at me in the eyes.

The story was very new to me and in my eyes, they were questions I needed to ask.

After a moment Remi spoke up "one certain day, after This particular wolf had killed people, the moon suddenly changed colour and became the red moon we all knew, the wolf transformed from a white wolf to a crimson red wolf and his pack ordered to kill him for changing the norms. This story is over hundreds of years old. We haven't noticed the red moon again until yesterday" Remi finished explaining and my eyes opened in bewilderment. The memories from yesterday started flooding into my head and I remembered shifting into a red wolf before blacking out.

I was quiet for a moment trying to comprehend all that she's just said. "Rory, you're a blood wolf, who can only shift on the blood moon. You know what this means? They're after you" Remi said in a more serious tone. Fear enveloped me as I understood the situation I am in.

I lowered my gaze then lifted my head to her "so did he die? The red wolf I mean' I asked.

Remi slowly shook her head before answering "no one knows for sure. All the knew was that the red moon didn't appear again for another decade then yesterday ...." She Paused staring at me. The room became eerie cold.

The atmosphere was thick and I felt like choking. I can't believe I am a blood wolf. How am I even related to that wolf? More importantly, are they going to kill me like they did to him? Questions roamed my head as I tried to grasp the concept.

Remi got up and went to the mirror, started applying makeup on her face.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

She looked at me from her mirror and replied "to the Alpha's choice of course"

"I'm lost. The what?" I was confused.

Remi turned to me fully and said "when you were shifting, they cancelled the graduation ceremony and it was the same day that the Alpha's son was supposed to choose their mate. In general, today, being their welcoming party, is the day they're choosing their mate" she said while applying eye shadow.

My lips formed an 'o' and I started wearing my clothes. "I'm leaving" I announced while pulling up my jeans.

"What do you mean?" Remi asked, not to tear her eyes off the mirror.

"I'm going back to Brooklyn" I said and began walking to the my closet

"What?" Remi turned abruptly shocked

"You can't leave now. Kasandre is where you'll find a mate. You can find a mate In that human world" she said.

"The human world is where my family is. I have never had any fun or good moments here. I'm leaving Remi, please don't stop me" I pleaded then began packing my things.

Remi softened her tone and said "at least stay for today. You might not know...." I cut her off immediately

"I don't want any mate. Those bastards did something to me and I won't forget it." I said while staring at her. "I'd rather die than have them as mate"

Remi's eyes held confusion "what do you mean by, you rather die than have them as mates?" She asked.

I'm not telling her. I won't tell her that my mate, almost raped me had I not passed out.

I ignored Remi and began tossing my clothes into my bags, Remi then rushed over to me and held my hands. "Rory what do you mean? Have you seen your mate? What did they do to you?" She tried stopping me but I slapped her hands off me

"I'm not talking about it" I said in a low growl, my eyes flaring up and she backed away. Remi got up and returned to what she was doing.

Four hours later. I had finished packing my things and Informed my Chancellor about my departure. He said he'll send my school certificate to me from the post office. I called an Uber and started dragging my things outside. Just out in the open field where the graduation ceremony was held, I saw the Alpha's choice was going on. Then I stood to analyse the event. There were lots of pretty ladies dressed beautifully just to attract their mates. It was pathetic to look at.

"What a waste!" I commented. Carrying my heavy bag, suddenly someone bumped into me. I spun around, ready to let out my anger when I saw Kayden.

"Going somewhere mate?" He said with a grimace. My heart fell in my chest and it began pounding fast.

"I.. um..I was.." I stammered as I tried to find the voice. His Piercing blue eyes lingered on me before shifting to the crowds.

"Stay a little longer and enjoy the party" he suggested.

"No, I'm leaving," I managed to say. His grimace suddenly darkened and he leaned forward to my face "are you trying to leave your mate?" He asked in a low tone that sent me shivers.

"I.. just.. wanted to visit my mom" I told but he didn't seem to believe me.

"Is that true?" He asked again then I nodded. He straightened himself, his tongue running Through his teeth then he said "Come on follow me," he said then started dragging me to the podium.

All eyes were on us as they kept dragging me further. I saw Kael up front standing with The Alpha. His face had no emotions at all, he looked stern standing with the alpha, compared to Kayden who had more relaxing features.

My gaze shifted from Alpha Thane, our school's president to Kael and Kayden

it suddenly hit me. The resemblance. "Are they the Alpha's twins?"

I questioned myself just when I got closer.

"No, no, no. I don't want this. I don't want this" I said to myself.

Then Kayden started "Everyone! I know what today is and it's the day where me and my brother here will have to choose a mate" I started, still holding my hands. I stared at the crowds and then, they began murmuring and whispering to each other's ears.

Anxiety gripped me and I lowered my gaze as Kayden kept speaking. I felt Kael's eyes on me but I dare not look up at him.

"We're here to announce to you that this young lady here is...." Before he finished Kael yelled a no. Taking everyone by surprise.

"No? What does he mean by no?" I asked internally while raising my head to stare at him. Our eyes locked, and for the first time I felt that spark. It felt like an electrical spark.

"I, Kael Nightshade Rejects Rory as my fated mate" Kael said and everyone Gasped. He turned to me and said "I can't have a weak Omega as a mate, coupled with being a whore" he whispered closer to me.

The whispering became louder and Kale just walked away.

Kayden was still holding me while chuckling, I turned to stare at him in horror as he spoke. "I, Also reject Aurora Sergio as my fated mate." he said with a smile while staring at me. My heart shattered as I looked at him, then to the crowd.

They all had the same look, hatred and malice. Just like that day.

Kayden had left me standing alone and I couldn't bear the embarrassment, so I did what I knew how to do best.
