Chapter 8 Caught you

Alexa's POV

Even if I tried to panic I still felt numb, I could not speak or move, I could only watch the man go about his business like he didn't have a human being tied up in the middle of his living room.

Crazy how I don't even know who is behind this, Sophia or this was Sebastian's plan all along but as i tried to decipher a why, I drifted asleep.

" Hey." A thick voice jolted me from my sleep, this time around I was not lying in the middle of his living room, I was tied to a pole in the middle of his store.

A cough forced its way out of my throat, I licked my dry lips and forced out the first question that came to mind.

"Who... who are you?"

"Does it matter?" he replied,

"It matters to me," I said.

"Why are you doing this? Did Sophia send you? Or... or was it Sebastian?"

At the mention of their names, he laughed,

"So if I tell you the names will you report them to God after you are dead?"

His reaction told me nothing, he could be working for either of them, or neither.

"Please," I pleaded, "Just tell me why I am here, what do you want from me? Money?"

The man tilted his head, "It is not about what I want from you. It's about what others want... or don't want."

I frowned, "What does that mean?"

The man gave me a tight-lipped smile.

"That is not for me to say, my job is just to keep you here until they figure out what to do with you."

"Figure out what to do with me? You mean... they're deciding whether to... to kill me?" my eyes widened with every word.

"I have said more than my job requires me to, so it's time you shut up."

"You don't have to do this," I begged, trying a different approach.

"You could just let me go. I won't say anything, I promise. I don't even know who you are."

"I don't think you understand the situation you are in, Alexa.you are too naive to be in this circle."

I didn't realize I love my life so much until now. I had always thought dying would be the better option but apparently it isn't.

"What if I promised to leave the circle?"

"Shut up while I am being nice and this is the last time I am going to say it, I am a very unstable man, bipolar..ish."

"I will be quiet," I whispered, "But please... I just want to know what's going to happen to me. You see I have a dying father and a brother all alone in school, I can die right now"

He didn't respond, even if I knew I shouldn't get him angry, I also knew I couldn't die right now."

"I didn't mean to get involved in any of this," I pleaded softly, trying to reach any remaining sense of humanity he may possess.

"I have no idea what is happening. If you let me go, I will disappear, I will never come back. You will never have to see me again."

" You are getting me angry." He said in a melodious tune

"Can you please have mercy on me, I don't want to die," I whispered, more to myself than to him.

"Then stop doing stupid things," he replied, hitting my cheeks with the back of his hand.

Tears formed in my eyes, but I quickly blinked them back.

" Your job is to remain seated here, keep quiet and wait until they decide what to do with you. If they want you alive, you will stay alive. If they don't... Well, that's not my problem."

I nodded weakly, with one last glare he walked out of the room and closed the door shut.

I began scanning the room, searching for anything that could help me.

And then one, a broken piece of glass lying on the floor near one of the shelves.

I twisted my wrists against the rope, wincing as it burned into my skin, then tried to move my legs.

I finally managed to slide down low enough to reach the ground.

The glass was just out of reach.

After minutes of desperate reach, my fingers brushed against the shard.

I grabbed it quickly, ignoring the sharp pain as the glass nicked my fingers. I twisted my body to bring the glass up to the rope binding my wrists.

I began sawing at the rope, I didn't know how long it took...minutes, maybe hours...but finally, I felt the rope give way, and my hands were free.

I nearly cried out in relief but I bit down on my lip, forcing myself to stay silent.

I rubbed my sore wrists, then slowly rose to my feet.

I needed to find a way out but first, I needed to arm myself. I glanced back at the glass shard in my hand.

While looking around the store, I spotted a door

door at the back, half-hidden behind a stack of crates.

I tiptoed towards the door gently rested my ears on the door, straining to hear any form of noise or activity from the other side but I heard none so I pushed the door open gently

The night was dark with barely any light but I didn't mind. I started to run immediately without thinking until I stumbled upon something and I couldn't hold back a sharp groan that came out.

But before I could take another step, I heard the man's goice behind me

"Alexa," he called out.

My blood ran cold, my chest started to heave as I thought of a way out.

"Running isn't going to help you," he continued, "You're only making this worse for yourself."

I immediately went on my four limp, crawling away from him

"Come back inside, Alexa," he said," I won't hurt you, we can pretend this never happened."

Then everywhere was quiet for few seconds before he yelled

" Caught you."
