Chapter 4 Advice

Kevan firmly declined, saying, "Not interested."

Last night, Jessica's performance in bed had indeed surprised Kevan. Despite her clear lack of experience and visible nervousness, she had shown a fearless and unrestrained side. Under different circumstances, he might have considered keeping her as a casual companion. However, the fact that she was married was a deal-breaker for him.

Kevan always steered clear of married women or those in committed relationships.

Last night, under the influence of alcohol, Kevan had deviated from his usual principles and had not verified her marital status before getting intimate with her.

Kevan stated firmly, "If you're feeling lonely, you should look for companionship elsewhere. I'm not the solution."

Jessica faced a blunt rejection, leaving her embarrassed. "Dr. George, I was hoping to get your contact information for any follow-up questions I might have."

"Seek out someone else for that." Kevan turned away, adding, "Ma'am, a piece of advice. As a married woman, you ought to exercise more discretion. Pushing boundaries like this can backfire."

Jessica bit her lip softly. "I..."

"If loneliness is an issue, suggest your husband consult a urologist. Seeking me out in gynecology won't solve your problems."

Kevan's words cut sharply. Embarrassed and unable to meet his gaze, Jessica hurried out of the room.

As Jessica turned away, she unexpectedly spotted Matthew at the stairwell of the obstetrics department.

Though Matthew was masked, Jessica recognized him instantly.

Matthew proceeded cautiously. After ascending the stairs, he scanned the area. Once satisfied it was safe, he approached the waiting woman.

The woman rushed into his arms. "Matt, why did it take you so long!"

"I canceled an international meeting after your call, and you still think I'm slow." Matthew caressed her belly, his face lighting up with happiness. "Is it true? Are you pregnant?"

The woman's smile was undeniable. "It's been a month, but we still don't know the baby's gender. Matt, aren't you excited?"

"I'm ecstatic, absolutely thrilled! I dropped everything just to be here. We're going to have a baby! What could be better! Evelyn, I feel so fortunate to have you in my life! When I was with Jessica, I thought I'd never be a father. I never imagined fate would bless me with a child!"

Jessica was stunned! Not only was she reeling from the news of the woman's pregnancy, but also because the woman Matthew was involved with was her former college roommate, Evelyn Pearson!

During their college days, when Jessica was dating Matthew, Evelyn had always expressed envy, wishing for a boyfriend as wonderful as him. And now, Evelyn had really made her move on Matthew!

Despite it being spring, Jessica felt a cold chill envelop her. The old warning rang true: beware of those closest to you.

When Jessica arrived home, Mabel called to inquire about the check-up results.

Jessica nonchalantly replied the report could be expected tomorrow at the soonest.

Mabel was clearly displeased. "I don't care what tactics you use. Just get conceived this year! Otherwise, your days as Matthew's wife are numbered!"

Jessica snorted inwardly. Like she cared. She would be delusional to think she could salvage this marriage. The mistress was already pregnant and brazenly challenging her!

Jessica grasped she needed to swiftly collect damning evidence of Matthew's infidelity for later filing for a divorce, ideally leaving him with nothing.

Matthew returned home very late with a long face.

In the past, Jessica would have welcomed him at the door, but now she remained reclined on the sofa, her legs crossed, her concern barely genuine. "Matt, working late again?"

Matthew appeared utterly defeated. "Kevan just got back from overseas. We have a family dinner tomorrow."
