Chapter 5 Rude Jerk

Valerie

'Can I get Vodka, please?' The already drunk man asks for his seventh glass. Looks like some people have no sense of control. When he tapped on the counter, I sighed and showed him the sign that said, 'Closed.' He scoffed and waved a hand to dismiss the sign. 'I said I want Vodka.' This time the volume of his voice was high enough to be heard in the loud music coming from the dance floor across the room. Where are you? I thought. He'd told me he would be around only then I had agreed to work in this club. 'Did you not hear me?!' The man was now shouting. I almost tremble in fear.

'Get out!' I heard someone say and immediately ran towards him.

'Where were you? I was getting anxious.' I said. He placed a hand on my hair and then smiled.

'Stop worrying too much. I told you I would be around.' He motioned for his bodyguards to take the man away and they did. I was thankful for that.

Sebastian looked at me and I said, 'I'll try to be brave next time.'

'If you don't like working here, then you can be at home.' He said softly.

I shook my head. 'I will work here. But please be around.' He nodded.

'Don't worry, I'll ask the security to be more careful about you.' He assured me. Since the club was closed, we walked out and got into his car. 'Are you thinking about something?' He asked.

'It's been quite some days now and I still am not familiar with the people. Are you sure I'm not from another city?'

Sebastian laughed. 'One day you will know that you are exactly where you wanted to be.' Sometimes he talks mysteriously as if he knows something that I don't. I mean he obviously does since I have no memory of my life so far. He told me it was because of an accident. I knew those speeding cars were no good to anybody. Sebastian also said that I was a family member, perhaps this is why I feel safe around him. When he told me he had a hotel I was keen on working with him for two reasons. One, not be a burden on him, and two, to find a place for myself in this city. He then allowed me to work in the club attached to the hotel saying that's where he spends his time mostly. It's been a week since I started working in the club and let's just say every day has been an experience in itself.

When we reached home, I noticed the workers were cleaning and adjusting the furniture. 'Did something happen today?'

Sebastian's smile fell. 'Nothing that I couldn't handle.'

I decided not to probe further. I was yet to find my voice and place to know if I should be interfering with Sebastian's personal matters. Him allowing me to stay in his house was itself a huge deal.

The night went by swiftly. We had dinner and then retreated to our respective rooms. I had specifically asked for a room with a window that had the view of the backyard. Sebastian had a beautiful garden there with several flowers and trees, some even exotic ones, as I was told by the gardener. But, the highlight of the view was the moon that lit up the window frame at night. For some reason just looking at the white shining circle made a tiring day into a relaxing one.

Next morning I woke up to find that Sebastian had already left for work. Was he busy with something? I thought and then went about getting ready. I chose a light blue summer dress that matched my eyes and then left the house.

Arriving at the club I noticed everyone was already at their places and working. The manager shot me a look and I quickly walked into the changing room to get into my uniform. Thankfully it was empty. I didn't like changing with other people, especially when their eyes were constantly trying to find any evidence of my and Sebastian's involvement. He had told them I was a family member but no one believed him. Well, he has got a bit of a reputation.

I slipped out of my dress and it was only when I was putting on the shirt that I felt someone's fingers touch my shoulder. I turned back in a swift motion and anger. 'How many times have I told you it's rude?' My eyes widened at the realization that it was not the staff. 'Who are you?' I asked the man who was staring right into my soul with those beautiful brown eyes I'd never seen before.

'Are you Valerie?' He asked.

My brows furrowed. 'Who? No! I'm Waleska.' I unknowingly told the stranger my name.

'Are you sure?' He confirmed.

My fingers curled up in a fist. 'Who the hell are you? And why are you here?' I shouted.

He was taken aback by the sudden change in my voice. 'Relax, I'm just....'

'A rude jerk who likes to sneak up on women, isn't it?'

'No! Absolutely not. Look I know what this looks like but you have a....' He was trying to touch my back again as I clutched my shirt firmly.

'Back off!'

He held his hands out in the front. 'I'm not a bad guy.'

'You're a pathetic one!' I spat those words upset with all the guys flocking in the club and misbehaving with the staff after getting drunk.

'I don't know what your problem is but....'

'My problem is people like you. Security!' I called out and quickly wore the rest of my uniform. This time the guy turned around. Huh! Now showing me chivalry. No way I'm getting fooled by that.

The security guards came faster this time and took the man away. I couldn't help but shrug off the feeling his piercing eyes were giving me. Did he know me? Or maybe he confused me with someone he knew? He called me Valerie when my name was Waleska. Thankfully, Sebastian had told me my name or I would be lost in this city and the people.
