When Charlotte was carried out of the pool, her face was ashen, and her limbs were cold.

With her hands against the ground, she kept coughing. After she wiped away the tears in her eyes, Charlotte finally managed to see the one who had saved her from the water clearly.

"Ja-Jason?"

Charlotte murmured with some disbelief in her eyes.

Did Jason jump into the pool to save her?

Jason took off his drenched suit and looked up with indifferent eyes.

The scene drew the guests around over, including Veronica's parents.

Henry Jules, Veronica's father, was told what happened by the servants when he rushed over. Now he saw that Jason jumped into the pool to save Charlotte, so he got somewhat nervous and kept apologizing.

"My apologies, Mr. Langley. My daughter didn't do it on purpose. She made a mistake. Please forgive her."

Veronica was wrapped in a blanket when the scene where Jason jumped into the pool took over her mind. She could no longer hold back her fury and wished she could skin Charlotte alive.

She was thinking, 'Charlotte is just a bitch. How could Jason jump into the pool to save her?'

"She dragged me into the pool, Jason!"

Veronica wanted to make a scene out of it. She pointed at Charlotte and scolded, "She's up to no good and tried to hurt me. Without standing up for me, you got into the pool..."

"Shut up."

Jason interrupted her in a gloomy voice.

He was grabbing Charlotte's shoulder when he could feel her cold skin. He was thinking about the way she struggled when she was in the pool. If he jumped into it a bit later, she might have drowned.

When Jason thought of that, his face darkened. He didn't bother to talk to Veronica and merely looked at Henry on the side.

"So this is how you treat your guests."

He sounded utterly gloomy.

Everyone could tell that Jason was mad for real. Cold sweat broke out on Henry's forehead as he hurriedly stepped forward to apologize again.

However, Jason turned around with Charlotte in his arms and left decisively.

Curling up in his embrace, Charlotte held on to his collar fixedly, feeling a bit touched.

She wondered, 'He did this for me. Does it mean that he has some feelings for me? We've slept with each other for three years, after all, so I guess he wouldn't bear to give me a cold shoulder. However...'

Charlotte thought of Jason's engagement with Veronica and bit her lower lip.

Even if Jason had saved her from the pool, he would still marry Veronica eventually, and when they were married, what would Charlotte mean to him? Would she be his mistress?

Charlotte would never be a mistress, even if that meant that she had to leave Jason.

At the thought of that, Charlotte said in a hoarse voice, "We need to break up, Mr. Langley."

Jason already had his car started. When he heard what she said, he paused a bit and then said faintly, "Don't make a fuss. Veronica was a bit over this time, but everything's fine now, isn't it?"

He casually took out a card and tossed it at her. "Here's your compensation. Buy whatever you need with the card."

Charlotte only found her previous imagination too absurd at the moment. She clenched her fists. Without taking the card, she repeated herself in a soft voice, "It has nothing to do with compensation. We need to break up, Mr. Langley."

She knew well how lowly her status was to Jason since she whored herself for money. But even so, she would never be a mistress, which was her bottom line.

Jason suddenly grabbed the steering wheel hard with a gloomy expression. "What are you doing now? You begged me to offer yourself for the money, and now you're asking for a breakup?"

He snorted indifferently. "Have you paid up your mom's previous medical fees?"

Without saying anything, Charlotte merely nodded.

She had saved up a lot from the money Jason had paid her for the past three years plus the salary she got as an assistant. As long as her mother's condition didn't get worse, the money she had now would be enough for her to cover the medical expenses for the following two years.

She should've left Jason long ago. However, she didn't do it because she believed that as long as she kept holding on to him, he would take a fancy to her some day.

Her fantasies were now crushed.

She could be his lover and on-call girl when Jason was unmarried, but when he got married, they could not go on with their deal.

Charlotte hated the mistresses who were the third party between a married couple the most.

When her father, David Seinfield, cheated on her mother Renee, his mistress dropped by at the Seinfield family's place, showing off that David would soon divorce Renee Seinfield. Renee was so angered that she had a heart attack, which made her almost fail to survive from the rescue.

When David found out about it, he divorced Renee and forced her and Charlotte to leave their house without any money on them.

Renee was seriously ill back then, but David drove them out during the cold winter. They could hardly cover their daily expenses, let alone Renee's medical fees. Charlotte was driven into a corner when she met Jason, who was a savior to her at that time.

Therefore, Charlotte held on to him and didn't dare to let go, doing whatever she could to please him. She had many times warned herself not to fall for him, but the fact turned that she could hardly control her feelings.

With a sore lump in her throat, Charlotte looked up at Jason's face in the rearview mirror and asked softly, "Have you ever thought about marrying me since we met? Even just for a moment..."

Before she could finish her words, Jason suddenly hit the brakes hard.

Caught off guard, Charlotte hit her head against the back of the chair and felt pain in her forehead.

Jason said gloomily with a darkened face, "I've warned you, haven't I? You should know your place. Don't ever think about getting what you don't deserve."

Actually, Charlotte was aware that even if she asked Jason that question many times, she would get the same answer from him.

He would never have any actual feelings for her.

Jason started his car again and looked straight into the front without sparing a glance at her. "I'll have a new assistant reporting to the office in a couple of days. Take good care of the newcomer."

Charlotte was stunned. She showed a wry smile when she figured out what Jason meant.

It seemed that everything between them eventually would come to an end, including both the job and intimacy relationship.

With that, however, she could be completely carefree.

She didn't regret what she had done for the past three years.

To her, Jason was like a chilling ice cube. Even if she kept holding him, he would only freeze her.

"Got it, Mr. Langley," replied Charlotte with her eyes lowered.

She covered her belly with trembling hands and made up her mind. "I need to take a leave in the afternoon, Mr. Langley."

She thought that since they were to part, she should cut the knot and have an abortion. After that, she would no longer have anything to do with Jason.
