"We will get down at the last bus stop, there we take a bus to the next town," he explained as I nodded.
"If we are to be safe it's better to move as far as possible?" I asked.
"You are correct but we have to rest don't we? And traveling long distance with money is very dangerous so we have to cut our journey," His words just made sense to me, he was older and seem more experienced, I was scared and paranoid but still felt a sense of security inside of me. Even if his plan didn't go so smoothly like he said and we run our of money I would feel fulfilled if he us able to do the surgery and see again. Even if we eventually get caught one day let it be at least after his surgery.
"Everything is going to be alright," he said getting a hold of my hand as I smiled brightly at him, he smiled back even without seeing. Just within two months he has become my best friend and at this point I would literally do anything he says.
The ride was longer than I expected, we became the last two in the bus as I noticed he had fallen asleep on my shoulder, while all I did was think about what the future holds. There will be adult supervision, we will have to make decisions for ourselves, where will we sleep when we get to the next town.
Finally getting to the last destination we paid the Bus driver, while Ethan asked where we can find a cab to the next town.
"If we get to the next to the next town what do we do? Where do we stay?" I asked him holding his hand.
"Dont worry, we can easily find a hotel but to stay on a safer side motel would be better," he explained. I had questions, but nodded instead.
Quickly we found a cab, I listened as he tell the driver where we are going, it's refreshing watching him navigate the outside world with so much confident, we get stay downs from people occasionally because of his large sunglasses and long stick but it was nothing serious.
My stomach rumbled, it was getting darker.
"It will take you the whole night to get to the next town?" the driver explained, I was shocked, is the next town that far.
"Are you both siblings? Aren't you too young to be going this far?" The question took me by surprise as I tightened my grip on his arm.
"Oh yes we are, it's the end of a season we are returning from school, our parents will be up all night waiting so we can't really wait for the next bus," he easily lied as the man nodded seeming to buy the lie.
"Oh must have been a long while since you went back home, university student? Kids grow too fast this days," the driver rambled about finally accepting to drive us, apparently his kids are seniors in University andhardly comes home. None of the things he talked about was familiar to me. I didn't even know collage had senior. Ethan engaged in all his conversations.
"I know a very good spot, we will stop there and have food before continuing," he suggested
"No we can manage," I added.
"No... it's okay we would love to try it out," Ethan accepted to my surprise. The old man laughed as he continued his stories. The night was getting darker. At this point would Mrs foster be back yet? Are they sear thing for us yet or will it take till tomorrow to realize.
I felt a tight grip on my palm. He squessed my hand almost like a stress reliever I lowered my head to his shoulder for the first time, I was tired and hungry, we really should have sneaked out some food, this journey has been too long already thankfully the driver was filled with energy as he chatted all the way....
"Lila, lila!" a beautiful voice woke me up, my eyes were heavy and my body sore, slowly I peaked before I finally opened them, an unfamiliar surrounding followed by a rush of memory.
"Ethan!" I screamed only to realize he was smiling at me.
"Am here," his voice was gentle, still in the car. Looking around from the window I could tell it was early morning, light was beginning to illuminate the atmosphere. Right on my feet is Ethan's jacket. He must have covered me while I slept.
"Good morning," I looked around for the driver he was nowhere to be found.
"We are here now, This is Sourtum, we can rest here for today," his words were just as sorting as usual.
"We are alone," I said while he nodded
"He went to get something he will be back," Ethan explained.
We finally came down from the car, thankfully the bag of jewelry and money was still intact.
"Finally we will part our ways," the old man emerged from the supermarket with a bottle of water in his hands, I immediately handled the money over to him as he smiled brightly.
"Have a great holiday, and say hi to your parents," he said, it took me a while to remember the pie from yesterday, we watched him drive away before we remembered our next plan.
"I have only being here once, lets look around for a motel," I immediately began looking around, it was still early morning, if we looked around fast enough we could find one before the day completely brightens up...
After a very long search, the day has long brightened up and if I was to guess the time, it would be 10 am, my tongue have long dried up, and my feet have gone sore, because of our own paranoia we avoided asking questions but rather hunted by ourselves. Finally I found a old looking one, as we made our way to it.
The only thing old was the outside, the inside looked very beautiful and smelled beautiful, it was my first time visiting a motel and I want to believe it's also his.
"Good morning how can I help you," The voice of an annoyed looking young lady, she sized us up and down for awhile.
"Hi..." I began " We are looking for a room to spend the day," I said not so confidently, the way she looked at us wasn't really a good way.
"How old are you?" she asked
"Am 18," she remained quiet as if not yet gotten what she was asking.
"Uh, and he is 20," I said as she finally looked away.
"So what the name?" she asked seeming ready to write it down.
"Oh li..." I was cut short
"Her name is Susan and am Mike," Ethan answered instead as I bit my tongue. She nodded nonchalantly as she opened her eyes.
"The price is there," she pointed as I nodded digging my hand into my pocket, it was cheap surprised, she handled a key to me pointing to the hallway.
"Take the stairs upstairs," I only realized then that we have to share a room. It only made sense why she have us the look, she thought we were here with dirty thoughts in mind, I swallowed hard holding the key. There was no going back.
"Let's go," I said to him
"Is room service available?" Ethan suddenly asked, I have no idea what that means but it seems to be important. He requested for one, the only familiar thing I heard and was grateful for was breakfast which she assured will be ready for us.
"Look for a door with the same number as the key," Ethan explained. In no time I found a door and unlocked it.
A clean room with good scent, the first thing to catch my attention, the perfectly well dressed bed, I immediately locked the door as Ethan began to look for his way to the bed.
I dropped the bag finsllybon the bed as I also say down. It didn't nearly as beautiful as his room back home but it was modest and neat. With air conditioner blowing.
"We can stay here and plan our next move, the next journey will be by train and we wouldn't have to travel again," he explained holding my hand, it was so naturally for him to hold my hand at this point. I nodded.
"For now we should eat and have as much rest as possible. We will leave tomorrow morning," I nodded happy again everything was going according g to plan.
"Once we get to VERODA, we will settle down in a motel like this while we look for a place to rent," he began while I nodded.
"Allthough I do not like that we will have to tell people we are siblings that way we don't have to explain a lot," he explained.
"You don't like that?" I asked offended.
"Yes," he answered sharply
"Oh," I was taken aback but held it in, what's wrong with us being siblings, I thought running away together should make our bound tighter. I mean we are like family since we just have the both of us now but I guess he didn't see me as a sibling.
"Go wash up first, I will after." he said as I remained quiet before finally going to the bathroom. Closing the door right behind I stripped and began bathing. After a very long shower where I constantly reminded myself that everything was going to be okay I came out to see food served on a Tiny desk by the corner.
"Did someone bring them?" I asked as he nodded.
"You took quite sometime, I almost began eating without you," he said while I frowned, he shouldn't be waiting for me. If he is going to treat me so nicely and say we can't be like siblings how should I be left feeling.
"You shouldn't wait for me, I am not your sister after all," I said quite childish but I was still hurt. We sat down and began to eat. So hinge we both finished without conversing.
"You should get some sleep, you could sleep well while in the car, I will seat take my bath and rest after," he said finding his way to the bathroom. Thankfully the floors weren't tiled so I wasn't too worried as I nodded...
"And I don't want you to be my sister because I like you," my jaw fell to the floor as I felt my heart pounding.
"Huh?" I could only muster.
"Go to bed, you don't have to like me back," he said walking his way into the bathroom...
It was mid night, a knock on the door woke me up from my sleep, upon opening eyes, Ethan was on the other side of the bed as far as possible from me, his confession early the day made us a bit awkward and I still can't tell how exactly I feel about that.
I scratched my eyes sitting on the bed, the knock came again making him stir on the bed, I can't remember us asking for any other thing, perhaps it was a mistake.
I slowly stood from the bed and made my way to way to the door. The knock came again.
"Who is there?" I asked as I opened the door.
"Surprise," The voice sent a very sharp shock down my spine. As my eyes widened, fear taking over me immediately.
"You sly bitch," Mrs Foster kicked the door wide open as she shoved me in, I fell to my feet a cold sweat forming on my forehead.
"Lila? Lila?" Ethan's voice, he seemed to have woken up from sleep. Behind Mrs Foster is his trusted guard who only glared at me.
"Oh my sweet boy, how could she do this to you," She said rushing to him as she placed kisses on his fore head, I immediately began to cry. She found us before we could even do his surgery. All hope is lost.
"She didn't do anything Aunt, it is all my plan," Ethan began to plead immediately.
"What do you mean? This slay bitch, I very much knew you were up to no good kidnapping my beloved nephew, I thought you could be trusted but you proved to be worst, stealing from me, what did you plan to get from this? Money?" she berated me while I cried still on my feet, I only shook my head vigorously. I was lost for words.
"She did nothing! I convinced her to come with me, she knows nothing about this, I wanted to run away, she knows nothing, I brought her here, she was only following orders!" I heard his painfully voice, explaining over and over again.
"Do not lie for her, I know you are too kind but do not lie," I hear her say as I was slowly dragged away by the guard.
"Ethan! Ethan Ethan!" his name was all I could muster as I cried, I could hear his scream, his pleading, "I will follow you, just forgive her and punish me instead," I could hear his pleas till I couldn't no more. All I could see was the worried faces of people peaking through the doors starting as I was dragged off.
The last face I saw that of the Recipionist worried as I was thrown into the truck of the car. I screamed hitting the car to no avail. Help was not coming, the car drove in very fast speed as I cried, pleading for mercy. The car finally came to a stop as the truck was opened.
"I am so sorry," I pleaded with the man in front of me, I know no one here, was he about you leave me cold on the street in this cold night.
"That night, in front if the study, what did you overhead?" he suddenly asked as I fell silent immediately shaken by his question.
"So you indeed were eavesdropping," he said, something about his voice was scary.
"Too bad, you shouldn't have done that now you have to stop breathing," my eyes almost popped on the sight of a short gun.
My life flashed right at my eyes. "You don't have to like me back," were the last thing I remember as I felt a sharp pain through my chest, I couldn't make a sound neither could I understand fully what was going on but one thing was for certain... I was dying. I have been shut, and following through a clif. Too dark to see but the stars were bright at least.
So this is how my life was cut short.
