Chapter 4 A golden chance

Benedict Pov

With the marriage no longer viable, I needed to focus on finding a solution to the rental apartment in London before another issue arose. The thought of starting over was daunting, but I knew I had to take control of my life. Lost in thought, I sat in my room for what felt like hours, trying to make sense of the chaos that had become my reality.

Finally, I decided to head downstairs to check on my parents. As I entered the kitchen, I was greeted by the familiar sight of my nanny, who had been like a mother to me since childhood, busy preparing breakfast. The aroma of freshly cooked pancakes and scrambled eggs filled the air, transporting me back to a simpler time.

"Good morning, my mistress," she said with a warm smile, using the term she had always used to address me.

"Morning, Nanny," I replied, using the familiar term I had always used to address her. She had been my primary caregiver since childhood, and I felt more comfortable around her than my own mother. Her presence was a constant reminder of the stability and love I had grown up with.

"Where are my parents?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. I had been so caught up in my own thoughts that I hadn't noticed their absence.

"They went to see Mr. Jack," she replied, her expression neutral. I wondered what they were discussing, but I didn't press the issue.

I sat down at the table, and Nanny served me a warm plate of breakfast. As I ate, I couldn't help but think about the apartment in London and the mess my life had become. I knew I had to take action, but I was unsure where to start.

There's a call from Charlie, I thought, maybe he has some solutions to my problems. I picked up the phone, hoping for a positive conversation.

"Hello?" I said, trying to sound calm.

"Please, I'm so sorry for our last conversation. It was a mistake, and I've been trying to reach you," Charlie said, sounding sincere.

I wasn't interested in his apologies right now. "What about my house rent money? I want it back," I demanded.

"I used it," Charlie replied, his voice hesitant.

I felt a surge of anger. "You used my money? How could you do that, Charlie?"

"I was in a tight spot, and I needed it. I promise I'll pay you back, but I need some time," Charlie pleaded.

I sat in stunned silence, my mind struggling to process the news.

Then my parent arrived.

My parents' faces were etched with worry and sadness, their eyes filled with tears. My father's voice trembled as he delivered the devastating update.

"Jack was declared in a coma this morning by the doctor," he said, his words hanging in the air like a challenge to reality.

My mother added, her voice laced with concern, "We didn't know where he would come back to life, and the marriage has to be put on hold for now." Her words trailed off, leaving a trail of uncertainty in their wake.

I felt like I had been given a golden chance for the whole scenario.

" Jack, the man I was supposed to marry, was in a coma ". I said

Deep down me, I was happy.

"What happened?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady, " I thought the doctor said he would be back to life very soon why coma " I said

I thought about the conversation I had with Charlie. Now, everything was on hold. My life was put on pause, waiting for Jack to recover. If he recovered.

I looked at my parents, seeing the concern etched on their faces. "What do we do now?" I asked, pretending to feel lost and helpless.

My mother took my hand, her touch warm and comforting. "We wait, dear. We wait and pray for Jack's recovery." Her voice was soft, but firm, a beacon of hope in the darkness.

I nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over me. I would wait, I would pray, and I would hope for the best. But deep down, I knew I was very happy.

It was late at night when I decided to confront Charlie about the house rent.

"Hello," I said, my voice terse.

"Hello dear, I know you're worried about where you'll stay when you return to London. You could always stay with me," he replied.

"Charlie, you're sick. I want my money back," I demanded, my anger rising.

"We'll sort things out when you're back in London," he said, evading my question.

"Charlie, why are you being like this?

"That residence isn't even mine," I said, my frustration boiling over.

"We'll talk when you're back," he replied, and hung up the phone.

I fumed, filled with rage. I tried to call him back, but his line was busy. As I turned back to head to my room, I saw my dad standing behind me.
