Chapter 4 She was never meant to be

After the shabby wolf awakening ceremony conducted for Jasmine, the daughter of the Gamma a year after Eric had his, the family of Gamma Mason discovered a shocking fact. Jasmine was blessed with two wolves and it was meant to be a family secret.

Jasmine, the only child of Gamma Mason and his mate Kayla is known by the honest folks as an underrated beauty. She was born to the disappointment of her overambitious father who wanted a male son to enable him challenge the current Alpha and take over the throne of the Golden Wolf Pack.

After Mason's initial disappointment at the birth of a female child, his perspective changed. Instead of challenging the Alpha himself, he would force his daughter on either of the Alpha's sons who would emerge the winner from their tussle for power.

He tried his best to mold Jasmine into a perfect tool for his use but she kept diverting from the already laid out path shown to her to his disappointment. Giving up on transforming her into the monster he wanted, he went ahead to lay out a plan for her without her notice while trying his possible best to give less attention to her.

Kayla was initially happy at the sex of her baby and found her cute as a toddler but after growing pass that stage and she still looked a little plump, Kayla began feeling ashamed.

As a fashionista and someone who does not underrate her weight, Kayla found it embarrassing to have a plus sized daughter. To her, that was the greatest failure as a representative of trends.

Jasmine P.O.V

It was weekend and I had nothing to do. After singing and dancing to my heart's satisfaction, I decided to take a stroll around the house and maybe to the maids' quarter if dad and mum are absent.

Getting close to my mum's room, with the door standing ajar, the strong scent of her perfume invaded my nostrils and I knew at once that she was about to head to one of her many events.

Maybe I should have started hating on my parents for birthing me and torturing me this way but I could not. Severally, I had starved till I fainted in my bid to lose some fats and make my parents especially my mum proud but the end result was securing myself a peptic ulcer.

I know I shouldn't be sad but I could not help it knowing she wouldn't take me there because of my size but I decided to try either way.

"Hello Kayla." I greeted.

My mum banned me from addressing her as my mum, she said it made her feel old and outdated. This decision was like a million stab through my chest. I was denied of the special feeling of addressing my mum by her titled, everything around her screamed formality. I could not even swear to know everything about my mum.

She did not respond but I met her eyes looking at me from the mirror as she diligently applied her mascara. Deep down I knew my mum would have preferred to give birth to her material possession a thousand times than giving birth to me.

"Heading out?" I asked before carefully sitting by the edge of her bed, my back leaned backward, my palms supporting my weight and my legs could not resist swinging alongside the position of my body.

"Well spoken." She answered in a hurry as if talking to me was a waste of time as she unhurriedly prepared. That, she had done since I began knowing her.

"You look nice Kayla." I commented, still staring at her through the mirror. She caught my eyes once more for a short while before standing up.

"Thanks." She replied and let her hair loose. My mum was like a twinkling star I could only gaze at but never touch.

"Can I come with you?" I asked after gathering much courage and the long pause she made without looking at me made my heart go painfully still.

She went ahead to put on her high-heeled shoes, I would never be comfortable in those extra high shoes if I were her. She continued to touch herself up and after she was done, she looked at me and uttered the most painful 'no' I have heard yet. Her rejection sent my heart tumbling down into shallow pit of my belly.

"Why?" I asked again when I should have just left.

"For obvious reasons." She pointed out to something I didn't need to think hard to know.

If I hadn't seen pictures and painting of my mum pregnant and I, as an infant with dad and mum, I would have sworn very seriously on anything huge that I was adopted.

Tears filled my eyes but I refused to let them down. Blinking away my tears and biting my lips, I forced myself to look up at her.

"Can I at least go out?" I asked.

"Out where?" She asked.

I was homeschooled by some smart humans and wasn't allowed to roam around so I didn't have much friends neither did I know places around the town I have spent all my life in.

"Anywhere. I just want to take a stroll." I said.

"You go no where." She said and left no room for negotiation.

My mum was ashamed of me. I knew it. She didn't want me flaunting my weight around. I was the opposite of everything she stood for.

"I think we are clear here." She said and meant to head out when I folded my fist tightly into a ball.

"I am 18!" I yelled making my mum turn with the swiftness of a Jaguar to squint at me.

"Excuse you?" She asked, coming close to me one step at a time like a predator aiming at a prey.

Her change in aura and facial expression made me swallow till there was no spittle left.

"It was a slip of tongue." I said my voice almost inaudible.

With a sudden pause, she releases a smile that didn't reach her eye.

"I thought as much." She said, her smile dropping as quickly as a second hand of a clock. It suddenly seemed like it wasn't there in the first place.

"Bye Mum." I whispered after she left and broke down in tears. Sitting in a squatting position for minutes, I cried till I couldn't feel my legs anymore. I ended up plopping down on the floor.

After crying to my heart content, I stood up and made for the mirror. Looking at my red swollen cat-like eye, I tried to muster a smile which turned out being very awkward.

"I am okay."

"I do not have to lose my weight to fit into anyone's standard."

"I am unique."

I muttered the words over and again to give myself reassurance and boost my confidence.

'You are enough.'

'You are.'

Gaia and Maia said and it aided in helping me form a smile that didn't feel awkward.

"Thanks guys." I told them. I could picture them giving me an approving nod.

Taking a deep breath one more time, I opened the door only to come in contact with Dardanus, my father's wolf.
