Dominic's POV
"Come in," I permitted, sitting cross-legged on my swivel chair in my room. My gaze was fixed on the report I got from each pack.
As the Lycan King of this realm, it was my duty to maintain peace and unity with each pack.
My beta, Harris entered the room showing his neck. An act to show submissiveness. He's like a brother to me, we have been together since childhood.
"Mm. What's up?" I asked, without raising my head.
"It's a dangerous one, my King," my expression hardened when I heard him. My head darted to him, he nodded to confirm what he said.
"Speak," I ordered.
"She wasn't crowned as their Luna," I tried to conceal any emotions from revealing on my face. This was good news.
'Does that mean she would be ours?' my wolf, Dallas asked. My heart blossomed in my chest, happy I would finally be able to get her for myself.
"But she would be executed this evening at the market,"
"What?!" I jolted up from my chair when I heard him. He moved backward, giving me my space.
"Explain the fvck that happened right now, Harris!" I demanded.
"She was being accused of murdering her late parents. Her mate rejected her already after ratting her out and be with her sister, which means he and her step sister might have planned this all in order to have her out of their way," she explained and I gritted my teeth.
Her father had refused to comply with my rules and regulations. Which led to secret animosity between us. He was a proud Alpha that didn't wanna be controlled by anyone.
I declared war a couple of months ago when he was alive. During the time the war was approaching, I was told that he was dead. During my investigation, that was when I found her. My dear Athena.
She was my mate many centuries ago. Because our love was forbidden, she was a witch and I was a Lycan. She was killed.
I vowed to myself to wait for her reincarnation after I became the King. And she was finally reborn into the werewolf's world. It broke my heart when I learnt that she had a mate. I began doing my research on her, one of the reasons I delayed the war.
I was fuming inwardly, clenching my jaw with my gaze on Harris.
"How long would it take me to get there?" I asked him.
He darted his head up, looking at me in amusement. I knew he was wondering if I wanna go on my own.
"Maybe later if you pause for about thirty minutes on your way," he responded. That was all I needed to know before walking out of my room. He walked behind me as I rack my brain for the best route to pass in order to get there on time.
"No one should know about this," I said to Harris.
"But I can always go instead of you to...."
"No. It's my decision," I passed through the secret passageway and arrived at the woods. Waiting for many centuries just for her to be killed when I'm still very much alive is never possible
I shifted into Dallas, his snow white fur made him always stand out. Without waiting for Harris's response, I howled loudly before running towards her pack's direction.
Without taking a break, I continued running at a fast pace. Soon, it was day break and I tried to trace her scent in the market. I shifted into my human form, in a disguise as I walked through the crowd.
Her scent was still the same. That fruity smell that drives me insane. At a particular distance, I heard a loud voice followed by the countdown.
Running at a speed as fast as Usain Bolt, I charged towards them before roaring, using my King's tone on them.
"Stop!" I breathed heavily, accomplishing my aim. Everyone stopped momentarily, turning to look at me. My gaze was fixed on her, she looked so lifeless. My heart filled with pride, all my efforts to keep her safe didn't go to waste.
If I was a second later, she would have been dropped dead right now.
I pulled down my hoodie and walked closer to them. The crowd cleared the way as I walked freely towards the podium.
They all bow to their feet. I looked at the man, whose scent was different from others. He was a Lycan, and must be her so-called mate.
I averted my gaze from him, looking at the bunch of fools, the elder wolves. Who couldn't do a proper investigation and just believe what they heard.
"Good day, my King," the elder wolves greeted. I nodded with a serious expression, permitting them to return to their feet or seat if they were seated.
Athena raised her head to look at me. She looked so relieved and my heart ached when a tear fell on her cheeks. Her hair looked dirty, together with her white dress.
"What a pleasant surprise to see you in our pack, my King. You declared a war with us months ago before...."
"I'm not here for you to tell me about my actions," I shunned the person that talked to me. He bowed as an apology, I really wish I could tear their faces right now.
Stabilizing my breath, I exhaled and turned to the elderly female wolf.
"I'll buy her," I proclaimed, pointing at Athena.
"Huh?"
"What I hate most is repeating myself," I warned menacingly. The person I assumed to be her sister, swallowed her saliva fearfully.
"I'm sorry, my King. So how much will you..."
"Hundred thousand of gold coins and sixty plots to land in different packs," I interrupted. Their eyes almost bulged out of its socket. There was no way they were gonna say no to that.
"B-But she's a murderer...."
"Addition of another hundred thousand gold coins. Whatever you label her as it's my business not yours. Do we have a deal?" I demanded. They all exchanged glances.
"Deal, my King!" Her sister interjected, looking so greedy.
"That means, she is mine and doesn't have any relationship with you all. She was never in this pack and never had a close relationship. Mind you, the contract is irreversible," I stated, my gaze on Athena.
