Chapter 4 Confusion

Clarissa's POV

When I gazed into his eyes, a strange familiarity washed over me, yet no matter how hard I tried to recall, my mind remained a blank slate.

I noticed the surprise etched on his face as he took a step back, and for the first time, I allowed myself to truly observe him.

He was undeniably attractive, with dark hair pulled back neatly, but the scar that traced from his eye to his cheek gave him a rugged appearance.

In an instant, the haunting image of Ivan lying motionless on the ground invaded my thoughts, sending a chill of fear through me.

Yet, amidst the turmoil, I sensed something was off; this man seemed certain that I was someone he recognized as his wife and had interrupted my wedding because of it.

To make matters worse, he had revealed that he was divorced from his wife, and I couldn't understand why he was so determined to win her back after having left her.

He turned and walked to the back of the jet, leaving me alone in the passenger seat, still dressed in my wedding gown and makeup. I felt a swirl of emotions perhaps fear but I couldn't quite pinpoint what was happening.

This situation felt unsettling, and I didn't like it at all. I must have drifted off in my thoughts, utterly exhausted, because the next thing I knew, I woke up to find him cradling me in his arms, carrying me off the plane.

I felt too drained to resist, knowing deep down that he wouldn't let me go, still believing I was his wife. Before long, we were in a car, and the ride was filled with an uncomfortable silence.

I sat beside him, feeling his gaze on me, and every time he reached out, I instinctively recoiled, staring out the window as the scenery blurred by.

Eventually, we arrived at a mansion that seemed oddly familiar, but my mind was foggy, and I struggled to recall why. I noticed him watching me with a look of concern, yet he remained silent.

"What happeneto you?" he suddenly asked, his sorrowful gaze piercing through me. I stared back at him, bewildered, as if he had lost his mind.

"I've told you before, I'm not your wife. Why can't you grasp that?" I retorted sharply, noticing the frown that crossed his face in response.

"You are my wife, and soon you will realize it," he insisted, stepping out of the car and holding the door open for me.

As I exited, I let out a scoff and walked into the building ahead of me.

"You're just wasting your time; I am not your wi..." My words trailed off as I entered the living room.

There, hanging prominently, was a massive photograph, not just any photo, I saw myself in that picture, or a woman who looked exactly like me. She was in a beautiful wedding dress, beaming, while Dominic stood beside me, frowning at the camera as he held my hands tightly.

I pressed my hand to my mouth, sinking to my knees as the weight of the moment overwhelmed me. This was too much to comprehend; it felt impossible.

Was there a part of my life I had overlooked?

Was this stranger really claiming to be my husband? Deep down, I sensed something was off.

Perhaps I had a twin I never knew about, or maybe he was just toying with my emotions.

These thoughts swirled in my mind, but the idea seemed absurd. I had grown up with my parents, and just a year ago, I had fallen for Ivan during a beach trip.

He was the best thing that had ever happened to me, yet now this stranger seemed to have taken him away. Gathering my strength, I stood up to confront him. He looked at me with an expectation that made me uneasy, but I was determined not to be drawn into whatever game he was playing.

Who knows, maybe the picture he showed me was altered to deceive me into believing a falsehood.

"I don't know what kind of game this is, but I refuse to be a part of it," I declared, watching as he smirked and advanced toward me while I instinctively stepped back.

"For a year, I searched the world for you, only to realize that you were right under my nose all along, and hidden from. And you think I would play some kind of game with you, Clarissa? You are my wife, just as you have always been, and nothing will ever change that," he murmured slowly, a grin spreading across his face. He stood close, pressing me against the wall, his breath washing over me in waves that sent me into a panic.

Confusion swirled in my mind as I gazed into his eyes; I felt a strange familiarity, as if I had seen him in my dreams. Yet here he was, holding me captive, convinced that I belonged to him.

"I love someone else. Are you really going to keep me here just because of who you believe I am?" I asked, and he simply smiled at me.

"You will remember what you've forgotten, and you will be mine. Just give it time. For now, go to bed," he replied, leaning towards me, i looked away from him while he injected something into my neck. Within seconds, darkness enveloped me.
