Chapter 4 Divorce papers signed

Ashley went through her letter after writing it. She was satisfied with the content. She set it aside and went through the divorce papers and fixed her signature where it was required.

Tears threatened to fall from her eyes but she fought them back.

When she got to the section of the alimony promised to her after the divorce, she felt infuriated. How can he think she needs his twenty thousand dollars? After all she is the daughter of Jace Richard. The famous and the best heart surgeon that is always talked about. It was an insult to her.

She fixed her signature there after marking it out. She continued with the signatures until she got to the last one. Her heart hurt. It was like a nightmare. The only thing she ever wanted was a happily ever after for her and Zion. But it was three years of living together and finally ended in divorce.

She wondered for how long Zion had the papers that he already signed.

Ashley signed the last page and kept it on the bedside table. She dropped the letter that she wrote to Zion on the divorce papers. The. Her wedding ring followed.

If she was leaving, she doesn't want anything that would remind her of Zion or their sad marriage.

Now it was time for her to park and leave the house. But first, she called her father's driver so that he would come and pick her up.

Going through her closet, she tried to pick the few things that she came with after the wedding. She left behind whichever outfit Zion bought for her. Even though their marriage was loveless, he never failed to give her occasionally. He knew her size, her taste and her favorite designer. Maybe all these little things had to do with that gave her hope.

Soon her phone buzzed. Thinking it was the driver that had arrived, she quickly finished with her packing and went to the phone. Only to see it was a text message from a number that wasn't in her contacts.

She went ahead to check the text. There is an image attached to it. She clicked on it and when the image came to view, her heart sank.

It is an image of Zion sitting in the dining area of a house. He was still in his work suit but they were wrinkled. His hair was looking rough. Seems he just woke up that morning in the house. A cup of coffee in his hand.

Below the image, the caption read: ("You might be the wife that trapped him. But he is mine. He loves me and wants to be with me, not you.")

Ashley is too disappointed at what she saw and read. She has always thought Jenifer had something to do with the information that was sent to her about. Pictures and Zion's whereabouts. This just confirms it all.

She decided to reply to the text. She was getting teary eyes again.

"No! Not now. Not here. Wait till you leave." Ashley scolded herself. She sucked in a breath and typed.

Ashley: ("So it was you all this time, Jenifer. You kept sending me pictures and what not. Anyway, you have nothing to worry about anymore. You can have him.")

To her surprise, it didn't pain her as much as it used to. She felt a bit proud of herself. She has already accepted defeat.

However, she felt it was important to let Zion know. He needed to know that Jenifer was the one sending her tips on his whereabouts all the while. Even though it all doesn't matter anymore.

She took a screenshot of her conversation and Jennifer and forwarded it to Zion's phone.

Ashley:(I have signed the divorce papers. I don't need your twenty million. I am the daughter of one of the greatest doctors. I am doing perfectly well without that. Thank you for putting up with me for a whole three years of your life. I am sorry for everything.)

She then sent it to him.

Just to be clear on everything, she added a note below in the letter she had already written for him.

*Like I said in my text message, I don't need alimony from him. I have signed the divorce papers as you have wanted. Also, sorry for the screenshot I sent to you. I just thought you should know, even though it doesn't matter anymore.*

She finished and dropped the note on the divorce papers.

Soo, she received a call from her father's driver, saying he had arrived.

Ashley picked up her hand bag. She looked around the room. Her eyes fell on their wedding photo that was enlarged on the wall. She was all full of life and smiled from her heart. Then she looked at Zion. Her heart sank. It's as if she was too happy then and never noticed his state in the picture. Zion kept a very serious expression. It wasn't anger or sadness. But it was very difficult to define.

That acted as the thing that gave her more courage. She believed that the decision she made was the best for them both.

She picked up her suitcase from the bead, gave the room one last glance before exiting the room. She finally left her matrimonial home.

***

The night before Ashley left, Zion was in a club with his friends. Music was blasting. People were dancing and chatting amongst other things.

Zion gulped down another glass down his throat with a swift. He clenched his jaw and the glass in his hand. Acting all very strange.

"What's up with you, man?" One of Zion's friends, Heath asked. As he noticed, his friend was acting weird.

"You see it too, Heath? Something is up his ass." The other friend, Matt acknowledged.

The three had also been childhood friends. They grew up together but then attended different colleges. Although they met up any time they were back in their town, until they finally graduated and came home fully.

Zion's glass was refilled and he immediately gulped down the content.

"Ash and I are getting a divorce." Zion blurted out.

"What?!" Heath exclaimed, spilling his drink.

"What the hell!" Was Matt's comment.

They were both surprised hearing what Zion just said.
