Chapter 7 Betrayal

OCTAVIA'S POV

"It is with the utmost joy in my heart that I want to show you all my mate. She is someone that has been there for me and she has always been the one that I would look forward to seeing as my Luna." Zachary was smiling, I could not contain my joy. I was walking towards the stage to stand by his side as his Luna.

"I would love to let you know that I love you with all my heart and I would never let anything stand between our love." Zachary's words were the only thing I could hear when I was walking to the stage.

It was like it was only I and him in the ball, I was going to be his and he will be mine. I was going to be with the one I love and no one was going to put us apart. 'I have never loved anyone the way I love you and it is only fate that brought you to me.'

"Now my beloved will come up to the platform, my beloved Seraphine."

I paused dead on my trail, my heart almost stopped beating as I watched Seraphine walk up to the platform.

"What is going on?"

I stood there as if I had been struck with paralysis, I didn't understand whatever it was that was happening in front of me. I watched in horror as I watched Zachary kiss Seraphine in front of everyone, I could not even understand what was going on.

"What is going on?!" I yelled on the top of my voice, I was lost in anger. Everyone turned to me, Zachary and Seraphine looked at me with smiles on their faces. I didn't know what was making them smile but I knew it was not going to make me smile.

"Oh dear Octavia, how do you like my surprise? Dazzling isn't it? I know what you are thinking, we look cute together." Seraphine was smiling, I stood there confused and I didnt know what I was going to say or do.

"Why?" I was holding back a flood of tears in my eyes, I could only mutter some few words and it was not like me to stand there looking at me like that.

"What do you mean by why? Did you really think I would make someone like you my mate? How delusional are you?" Zachary looked at me with a hint of disgust in his eyes. I had never seen him look at me that way, it was a look filled with hate and disgust.

"You told me you love me, I gave my life to you. I practically gave up my powers for you to make me your mate, I left behind my role as the priestess of my people to make sure I was going to be with you and you tell me this?" I was trying not to overreact and understand what was going on.

"Well I see you are really dumb," Seraphine was sounding sarcastic, I looked at her. I Didn't know what was going on but from the way she was holding him it was clear that they had been together for a long time.

"Since when is Seraphine?" I was getting angry, I knew it was going to be trouble but I wanted to be cleared. I needed to know what was going on.

"I beg your pardon, what do you mean?" Seraphine was looking at me, I flared up in anger. I wanted to use a spell on her but I remembered that I didn't have my powers with me.

"Since when have you been going out with my mate behind my back?!" I was infuriated, the feeling I had was all mixed up and I could not tell what I was going to do.

"Your mate? If Zachary was your mate then you will know he has a sworn hate for your kind. Your wrenched clan caused the death of his beloved mother and siblings, my father lost his service to your mother so I don't know why you would think that he would be foolish enough to make you his mate?!" Seraphine words hit me unexpectedly, I was confused what did she mean by all that?

There was never a time when Zachary said that he hated the daughters of the moon, he said he loved them and would want them one with the pack but never did he say or mention that they had caused the death of his family.

"What are you saying? There is no way that is what happened, the daughters of the moon would never hurt a soul. We keep the balance and make sure that the packs are safe from the dangers of the spiritual realm,"

"Silence!" Zachary yelled cutting me off, I could feel his anger. But what I didn't understand was why he would be this hostile to me, he has never shown this level of anger before and I was a bit confused.

"Zachary, what is wrong with you? I am your mate not Seraphine, you told me that I was the only one for you and no one else would ever take away my place in your heart."

"Have you not heard of acting?" Zachary looked at me, he was serious.

"I don't understand, why would you say that you were acting? The emotions we shared, the love we gave each other, the moments we shared. Where did all that come from? You can't tell me that you never loved me, it was real for you and I, you can't tell me that you didn't feel anything in all those moments we shared." At this point the crowd had paused and they were looking at me like I was going insane.

"So all the promises you made, it was all a lie?" I looked at Zachary with tears in my eyes, he smirked.

"fool, now you are getting it. There was no way I was going to love an abomination of nature like you, you were nothing to me!" Zachary was trying to break me more than he had already.

"And now I will make sure you understand what I mean," Zachary said with a deeper voice. I looked up to see what he meant by that.

"Standing in front of the entire Crystal Groove Pack, I Zachary Henshaw rejected Octavia Orissa as my mate!" The moment he said those words, I felt pain worse than what I had felt when I gave up my powers.

I fell to the ground holding my chest, I was confused there was no way I could get myself together immediately. "Why are you doing this? Why all this?"

"Well I have to make sure that nothing will stand in my way, I think it is best you go check on your people. It would be a shame if anything happened to them, you should be able to feel it. But wait, you have lost your powers." Zachary had a devious smirk on his face, my heart began to beat fast.

I got up with the little strength I had left and began running to my clan. It was far but I didn't have any time to call a cab. I kept praying that nothing happened to my people, "Oh please no, please be okay."

I reached my clan and what I saw was a sight to break any soul. "My people,"

I fell to the ground in tears, my people were all dead.

They had been brutally slaughtered, a soul-shattering anguish ripped through my very being.

I felt hollow, utterly gutted, and consumed by a burning, all-encompassing desire for vengeance.

Blinded by rage and grief, I ran back to the venue, my feet pounding against the ground as if possessed, desperate to confront the monsters who had not only betrayed me but massacred my entire clan.

My heart thundered in my ears as I entered the hall, desperately searching for Zachary. But it was Seraphine who spotted me first.

"There she is!" she shrieked. "The traitorous wretch!"
