Chapter 5 MY BOSS

It was Saturday today, no work, no Desmond, it was going to be a good day. Unlike the gruesome day I had yesterday. Went about being lazy and in between house cleaning.

While cleaning the parlor, I stumbled upon a notice of rent due for our house. Camila probably didn't want to bother me and I know she doesn't have the rent at the moment either. We need to get the money somehow.

As I was organizing my room and preparing to do laundry, I discovered the business card that Mr. David had given me at the reception. Recalling our previous conversation and considering how my boss, Desmond, had been treating me, I decided to reach out to Mr. David. Additionally, the financial assistance he had offered would certainly help with our rent.

After dialing the number on the card, the call rang twice without an answer. Shortly after, my phone rang.

"Hello, Mr. David, this is Angel from the Bellevue reception," I greeted.

"Oh, hi! It's great to hear from you. I didn't expect you to call," David responded.

"Well, I hadn't planned to until I encountered the Desmond you mentioned," I informed him.

"I see. And you're calling for?" he inquired.

"I'm reaching out to accept the offer you proposed," I explained.

"What prompted this change of heart?" he asked.

"I have taken on the role of his new personal assistant, which has been challenging, and there are also some personal considerations," I replied.

"I'm glad to hear that. Things should be easier now. Don't worry; you will be generously compensated," David assured me.

"I would like to request a payment of $500,000, with half provided once I have earned his trust and the remainder upon completion of the job," I mentioned.

"That much?" he expressed surprise.

"Yes, it accounts for the risks involved and reflects my worth," I stated firmly.

"Very well. Expect a call from me soon, and we will need to meet in person later to discuss further. For now, focus on getting closer to him and gaining his trust," David instructed.

"No problem, sir. Thank you. I will await your call and save your contact information," I acknowledged.

Desmond has no idea what's coming his way.

The weekend went by so fast and it was Monday again. I walked into the office by 8 o'clock, smiling to myself as I walked over to the desk. I entered an hour before my boss would.

At exactly 8 o'clock Desmond walked out of the elevator. He walked to his office and sat down behind his desk, on his desk, a freshly made coffee and a note.

Dear Mr Desmond,

You are expected to be at a meeting by 9 o'clock. You need to read and sign the paper on your right (He looked at his right and saw the paper.) After that, you have an appointment at the Roman.

Yours faithfully,

Angel Baker.

P.S. The coffee is hot and just how you like it.

He scoffed, pushing the piece of paper aside. "Who the hell did she think she was?" For a moment, he wanted to call her intercom but recalled he didn't see her on her desk.

He came out of his office and was about to go down the lift when the doors opened and he noticed her coming out. This was the first time he looked so much at her.

She was wearing a dark green body con dress that he'd guess was above her knee, she wore pearl earrings, and her cherry red hair had been put in a bun. She wore red lipstick which seemed just right for her and better with her hair.

He didn't notice he was still staring until she was right in front of him. There was something about her.

"Good morning sir." She said with a smile on her face. "Your coffee is on your desk and a note of your schedule."

"Where were you?" Interrupting and cutting her off.

"I went downstairs to pick up a package,"

"I don't recall having any package or ordering anything, so who's package is that?"

"It's actually for me sir."

"Drop that, grab your note and pen. it's almost time for my first meeting, I need you to take notes."

The meeting was swift, not the typical meeting of a Monday. I jotted down points and handled requests.

The meeting came to an end, I went back to my desk and began responding to routine emails and messages.

My intercom started ringing. "Hello, sir."

"Miss Baker, I need you to go and grab a document from a client at Baskfore"

"Sir, that's out of town! And quite a journey."

"Then you better head off, I'm giving you two hours max, come and get the company's card from my office." He hung up the intercom.

I got up and went to his office, knocked before entering. He was on a phone call, the office card was already on the table waiting for me, and a note that had the phone number and name of the client.

It was nearly 3 o'clock when I returned to the office. I rode the elevators up and headed straight to the boss's office.

"You were given two hours but you took three," Desmond said in a stern tone.

"Sir, I couldn't reach the client right away. I had to wait for him to get back to me," I explained.

"Even after you got through, you could have acted more promptly," he countered.

It's frustrating how unsympathetic he can be. Despite my explanation, there was no understanding from him. "I apologize, sir," I responded.

There's a list of names on your table, I need you to send them this," He hands me a note "Ensure it's being sent before 4."

I head to my desk, starving from not having my break. I was nibbling on a chocolate bar when the screen of my phone lit up with a message.

"Meet me at his favorite coffee shop, on Wednesday at 6:30 pm, David."
