Chapter 9 Husband in the Bedroom

Eliana's POV

I craned my neck to inhale some breath and then let it out. All that looking up had made it stiff.

"You want me to go inside?" I questioned hesitantly.

"Boss hasn't given us orders yet, but it should be expected that you will be shown to your room," he answered robotically. I briefly began to wonder if he was human.

"Okay...and this is the said room?"

My eyes darted between Sarsk and the door, hesitation warring on my features because what should I do if I am not allowed in there and Donovan returns and becomes angry?

"Yes. It is the room," Sarsk offered in a mocking tone, and I gave up on asking him more questions.

His legs were three feet apart, and his hands knuckled behind him. That was the stance for someone who didn't plan on budging until they had gotten directives straight from their superior's mouth.

I blew a breath and smiled warily at Sarsk, whose eyes were already zoning into space. The house was as big as a hotel and as labyrinthe as a complex castle. If my room was only on the third floor, then what was on the second and fourth floors?

I pushed the door and entered, shutting it behind me.

The room was dark, so I blindly traced my hands on the wall next to me until I found a switch, and then everything was illuminated in mellow white lights.

There was a four-poster queen-sized bed in the middle of the room, just at the center, but the bed was a long way from the door.

In front of the bed was a sofa I categorized as a cozy reading nook for days when I couldn't do anything worthwhile. To the left was a vanity dresser, and to the right was a closet. A walk-in closet. There was a little sitting area just right next to where I was standing, by the door.

It was perfect. I loved it!

Squealing, I ran to the bed and jumped into it, collapsing with a giggle as the soft mattress hugged all of me.

Then and there, I knew I'd kill to have a bed like this for the rest of my life. If Maria and Miguel had told me I'd be out of their lives and living in this kind of place for the foreseeable future, I'd have rebuked them and called them liars.

But they had infact told me they would be marrying me off and to a mobster no less. Not only did I fail to rebuke them, but I found myself slightly happy to be in this house.

If I'd known things would turn out like this, I'd have prayed for Miguel to own debts earlier in the year.

No matter, I am free now and can move around a house without walking on eggshells.

But the house was so far away from the city. What if I wanted to go to a mall? What if I wanted to catch up with old university friends? What if I wanted to be at an amusement park?

Sighing, I sat up in the bed and began to loosen my hair. Whatever, I will find out later if I needed to be in the house as a live-in wife or someone with free will. It all depends on what my husband thinks.

My husband.

I can't believe I am married to someone that handsome and deadly.

Someone that deadly handsome.

A shy smile crept up my lips as I giggled into my palms like a school girl. I know this was not a marriage of love. I was only a pawn in a game, but what if I made Donovan fall in love with me?

I giggled once more as I pondered the idea.

It was a ridiculous idea that shouldn't be entertained.

Just when I was done with my hair, the door flung open, and Donovan strode in confidently, his aura oozing stoic male and cold murderer.

His hands were in the pockets of his black slacks, his jaw hard, and his eyes unreadable.

The door shut behind him as he took in the room with arrogance. As if it were a measly horse stable to him.

Then his gaze landed on mine, and his jaw hardened even more. I could sense him grinding his teeth as he stalked closer to the bed.

Then he stopped at the foot, his eyes never leaving mine.

"Do you find the room to your liking?"

Out of all the things I expected him to say, I wasn't expecting that.

I nodded shyly, unable to handle his penetrating icy gaze.

"Use your words, sole."

I didn't know what sole meant, but I knew he'd be angry if I replied with a nod again, so I used my words as he ordered.

"Yes, I love the room."

"Do you need anything else?"

His tone was bored and distant. It was then that I realized he was just doing this to get over it. He was a mafia boss. Of course, he wouldn't have any time for me to be asking if I liked a room or not.

In order not to waste his time, I rambled off my appreciation so he'd get along with his day. It was still morning, and he probably still had places to be.

"I don't think I need anything for now. I only want to be in bed until you need me. I...I want to sleep," I said feebly, still not meeting his eyes.
