Chapter 6 His Decision Is Right

Sarah and Merry finished their meal and headed back.

Merry couldn't understand why Sarah suddenly seemed like a different person.

But Sarah had just said they were best friends. Merry had never thought Sarah would consider her as such.

After dinner, Merry, as usual, carried Sarah's bag and opened the door for her.

Sarah was just about to tell Merry not to do that, joking that it felt like she had stepped into a historical novel and gotten herself a maid. But then she thought about it and realized that changing someone's behavior and mindset wasn't something that could happen overnight. If the difference was too noticeable, Merry would definitely find it suspicious.

Sarah didn't actually dislike Merry as much as the original story implied.

The characters in the book were too one-dimensional. It was only when she met them in person that she realized they were living, breathing people, not just words on a page.

Sarah had just laid down at home when she received a message from Butler Ted.

[Lady, there is a Smith family banquet in a few days. Young Master would like you to accompany him.]

Sarah thought, "Family banquet?"

The original story focused mostly on the intense love-hate relationship between the male and female leads.

Sarah knew nothing about the powerful Smith family, except for the fact that her husband had an impressive grandfather.

She sent a private message to Merry, [Do you know anything about the Smith family?]

Merry replied, [The Smith family is very mysterious. I don't know anything about them.]

Although Merry's family was well-off, with her spending millions every year without a care, they couldn't compare to the Smith family.

According to the original story, the Smith family played a crucial role in the male lead Ronald's success, helping him reach new heights.

Merry got to know more about Holden after Sarah married him.

Sarah, [Apart from Holden, have you heard of any other names?]

Merry had no idea.

David was even more clueless about the Smith family.

Sarah anxiously scratched the sheets.

What was she supposed to do?

She wouldn't recognize anyone there.

Could she skip it?

She tentatively told Butler Ted that she was very busy and might not be able to attend.

Butler Ted responded, "Young Master said that you must fulfill your responsibilities. If you don't, your monthly allowance will be deducted."

Sarah, "How much will be deducted each time?"

"Twenty million per instance," said Butler Ted. "If this month's is all deducted, it will come from next month's."

Sarah, "..."

Butler Ted didn't understand why his master suddenly gave such an order. Usually, unless Old Mr. Smith was present, Mr. Holden attended family events alone. But this time, he wanted Sarah to accompany him.

Sarah had a sudden idea, "Butler Ted, I haven't had much interaction with the Smith family. Do you have any advice for me?"

Butler Ted replied, "Lady, I can't speak about the family, whether good or bad."

As a successful professional with a million-dollar salary, Butler Ted had his own set of ethics.

Sarah deflated and lay on the bed.

Just then, her phone rang. She absentmindedly picked it up.

A bubble-like voice that made her skin crawl came through, "Sarah, I had another fight with Elisa."

Already in a bad mood, Sarah felt even worse hearing this pretentious guy's voice.

"Get lost."

She hung up the phone.

On the other end, Ronald was stunned.

Was this the Sarah he knew?

In the past, whenever he fought with Elisa, Sarah would always rush to his side and be his gentle, understanding confidante.

Elisa seemed like a very pure and fragile girl to Ronald, though she could be unreasonable at times. Despite often claiming she wanted to be independent, Elisa mostly relied on him, and her entire family depended on his generosity. This greatly boosted Ronald's pride as a man.

The sense of control he had with Elisa was something he couldn't experience with Sarah, who was of equal status.

However, Elisa had her flaws. For instance, she didn't understand Ronald's social circle or his lifestyle.

During the day, Ronald tried to gather the latest news and invited a few friends out. He covered all the expenses, spending around eight or nine hundred thousand. When Elisa heard about the amount, she got upset, sarcastically mentioning that her father couldn't save that much in a lifetime, yet Ronald spent it on a few bottles of wine.

This angered Ronald even more. He was spending his money to make connections, and it had nothing to do with Elisa's father. They ended up having a fight, and neither wanted to speak to the other.

Ronald's close friend, Peter, was shocked. "Sarah hung up on you? She used to be eager for your calls, didn't she?"

Ronald himself wasn't sure what was going on. He felt anxious, sensing he was losing control over everything he once managed effortlessly. He wanted both Elisa, who boosted his ego, and Sarah, the beautiful and noble girl he couldn't forget.

"Who knows what's going on with her? Lately, she's been acting like she's on some medication," Ronald muttered, taking a swig of his drink. "Women's hearts! They're like needles in the sea!"

Peter added, "Don't forget, you still need Sarah. Remember, her husband is Holden, a top-notch big shot. Ronald, any secrets you want to know, Holden probably knows them. Sweet-talk Sarah a bit, and she'll do anything for you."

Holden...

Just the thought of his name made Ronald feel a mix of fear, resentment, and confusion.

"I think Sarah's acting out to get your attention. Some girls act distant to make you notice them," Peter said.

Ronald instantly believed it. He knew Sarah's feelings for him were strong, and she wouldn't forget him easily.

"Still, I think Elisa is a better girl," Peter continued. "Elisa is so good, she doesn't care about money. Even if you went broke, she'd be willing to beg with you. Do you think Sarah would ever do something so noble?"

Ronald agreed, "Yes, Elisa is a good girl. She doesn't care about anything except my love for her."

Peter said, "And Elisa is so genuine, unlike Sarah, who is just a vain woman who married into the Smith family for money and isn't even willing to stay single for you."

Hearing this, Ronald felt even more justified in his decision to be with Elisa.
