On one such evening, as an autumn breeze blew softly through the city, Alexander and I were at a secluded dimly lit restaurant. The soft glow of candlelight danced on white linen tablecloths creating intimate atmosphere around us before our eyes. There was a buzz of conversation and gentle sounds of jazz musicians playing their songs, making everything more beautiful. "Ms. Taylor, there's someone I'd like you to meet," said Alexander with sparkling eyes full of hope. "Somebody who means a lot to me."
A tinge of excitement colored his tone and there was a flutter of trepidation in my belly. I noticed a young man with an uncanny resemblance to Alexander walk towards us. With the same dark hair and piercing eyes as the older brother, he also possessed some vulnerability in contrast to Alexander's assuredness. "Ethan, my brother, this is Ms. Emma Taylor," said Alexander with a hint of warmth. Ethan looked at me in surprise, a shy smile at his lips. "It's great to meet you, Ms. Taylor. Alexander mentioned you a lot." I returned his smile. My heart melted when I saw him; he reminded me so much of my older brother. "The pleasure is all mine, Ethan. I've heard plenty about you too," I replied. Alexander signaled for Ethan to come sit with us, showing both love and worry in his eyes. "Ethan is back home after studying abroad for some time now; it's so good having him around again." Ethan pulled up a chair and sat across from me, and his eyes sparkled with curiosity. "It's nice to finally put a face to the name I've heard so much about."
His words made my chest flutter with a feeling connecting us. "I feel the same, Ethan. Alexander's tales make me think I know you already." The waiter appeared with our orders; candlelight illuminated Ethan's eyes making them seem mysterious.. There was something in him crying for freedom, for a liberation from his well-to-do life. "Then Ethan, why have you come back? "I asked looking at his face searching for something inside. A shadow swept across his face briefly and he hesitated before responding. "I felt that it was time to go back home. I have missed my family and..." His voice trailed off, eyes to the table where sadness lingered on. Supportively, Alexander put his hand on Ethen's shoulder and rubbed small rings with his index finger ."Ethan has always dreamed of other paths that go against what people expect from our surname", said he. I nodded as comprehension coursed through me." Carried forward by the King legacy cannot be an easy task; it must be barely bearable." Ethan smiled at me gratefully before meeting my gaze again for just a moment."It is comforting meeting those who know such burdens too."
The mellow guitar tunes streaming through the air created a calm atmosphere when the waiter served up our meals. For every second that passed, I found myself relaxing into the warmth of their family ties while Ethan's tense shoulders became more relaxed. "Ethan has always had a passion for music," Alexander said, his voice filled with pride. "He is an incredibly talented pianist." At his brother's compliment, Ethan's cheeks turned crimson as he shrugged it off modestly. "That's only my hobby, Alexander, nothing in comparison with what you have achieved." With a cavalier gesture of his hands, Alexander railed against his brother's response. "This is not true,Ethan. Your inventiveness is commendable and worthy of public notice." The siblings shared an intimate moment of empathy with each other as well as reinforced their bonds and connections. Witnessing this sacred moment between the Kings made me feel like I was in heaven since it was a rare opportunity into such personal lives again. As the night wore on, Ethan spoke about the dreams he had and desired to go down a different path distinct from what their family name entailed; his vulnerability fascinated me because of his honesty they were raw.
Ethan said, looking into my eyes, "You know, Ms. Taylor, I have always thought that the expectations attached to our name a bit forbidding." "Without the burden of inheritance, I envy your freedom to follow your dreams." His words struck chords in my heart as I understood the burden he bore. "Sometimes, freedom turns out to be a double-edged sword, Ethan. It comes along with its challenges and choices," I said. Alexander's gaze shifted between us, a whirlwind of compassion and worry reflected in his eyes. "Ethan, I know it is not easy for you. But whatever path you choose I want you to know that I stand with you," he said. Ethan's eyes shone like a candle glowing hope and determination. "Thank you so much Alexander I appreciate your support. And Ms.Taylor it's been such an honour getting to know you better." As we said goodbye that evening with the gentle autumn breeze brushing against our faces, there was a connection between me and Ethan through our shared desires and burdens placed on us by our families' name.. Unknown to me was how much deeper this connection would become later on as desire, danger and fate would take us along unplanned path where everything collided at once.
