It was nine o'clock in the morning but I was still in bed with my baby boy, for someone who had an argument with her boyfriend the night before, I slept rather soundly and if not for the constant knocking on my door I still would be sleeping.
" Who is it?" I grumbled grumpily as I quietly disentangled my self from the cute little ball beside me
" It's Vidalia, don't you think we should be preparing to head out?" She asked as I opened the door for her. " You said we were meant to vacate the cottage by ten and it's already few minutes past nine." She added.
"Shit, of course, I was too comfortable in bed and overslept; let me get ready and we will be out." I said just before closing the door. I quickly went to brush my teeth and have my bath before waking my boy, just like me, he wasn't a morning person and as such, getting him ready in the morning was always a hassle so most times I preferred to be ready before he was or else we would end up late.
I was done quickly, and Claude was surprisingly cooperative that morning, so we were able to finish quickly. At dot ten we were making our way out of the house, I was so grateful I enjoyed my money despite yesterday's disappointment because this was the best rest I've had in four years . The cottage was so worth the price, we had two rooms to ourselves with soft and comfy king-sized mattresses in each and even a nice jacuzzi outside which we made use of the night before. I would have love to visit again but that would mean slashing my income by sixty percent for ten months and boy I do not wish to go through that anymore. We got our things into the car and I got into the driver's seat while nanny Vidalia sat with Claude on her laps behind because despite watching several videos on the internet, we still didn't understand how to install the child safety seat.
" How was your stay Madame?"The security guard asked when I got to the gate.
" It was perfect, thanks for asking." I replied as I handed him the keys to the house. He let me sign on some papers before finally letting me out with the 'Thanks for doing business with us and see you next time' compliment.
"Do you think I should go see the lady from last night before heading home?" I asked nanny Vidalia as I met her eyes through the rearview mirror, she had successfully put Claude back to sleep and I could hear his soft snores behind me.
"She did mention that you should come around, right?"
" Yes, like I told you in the jacuzzi last night, countless times."
" Then you definitely should, you could even stop at Bidders and get her a latte so you don't go empty handed."
"Yes, you are right, and perhaps some fruits as well; we could even restock the house while we are at it." I replied and that's the story of how we made it to the hospital with a basket of fruits on my right hand and a breakfast package on the left. Nanny Vidalia had insisted on waiting outside the room with Claude since he wasn't a big fan of hospitals and also since she wasn't in any way connected to Mrs Bonnie, she feared she would make the lady uncomfortable so I left her sitting on one of the waiting chairs outside Bonnie's room with a sleeping Claude in her arms.
When I arrived at Bonnie's room, the door was slightly open; I knocked lightly before slowly peering in, and I was greeted by three pairs of eyes, one filled with excitement and the other two devoid of emotion.
" Come on in child, I was beginning to get tired of staring at with this two." Bonnie beaconed, ignoring the looks from the other two people in the room. They didn't seem bothered by her words though, instead they resumed their previous activities, one which was peeling an orange, probably for Bonnie and the other which was on a call with whomever.
" Good morning Mrs Bonnie, how are feeling now?" I greeted as I walked over to her, to drop the basket of fruits and breakfast bag.
"Oh Clarity, I am as good as a horse now, thanks to you." She smiled as she pointed to a chair beside her, inviting me to sit.
" It was nothing." I smiled as I settled in beside her, trying as much as possible to not sound as uncomfortable as I was feeling because trust me when I say I was already sweating in my palms.
Even though the two men were not saying anything to me, the tension in the room was enough to keep me on edge, and the funny thing was that they were not even looking at me; they were just going about their normal activities, looking muscular and handsome while doing so.
"I have heard you do not have allergies." The man peeling the oranges asked a he handed a peeled one over to Bonnie, he turned around to face me fully and I almost cursed. This man was handsome and whoever was his woman would probably have to work double time to keep him in line.
" Yes, you heard right, but why do you ask?" I questioned, wondering why the allergies was suddenly brought up. I noticed the other man who was on a call was finally done but he was looking through the window at whatever unknown sight that had caught his eyes.
" Do you usually go around with an EpiPen?" Phone call man asked still staring outside the window.
" That's enough you two, stop asking her so many questions you're going to scare her." Bonnie said, dismissing them but I don't think they cared.
" Who are you working for?"
Phone call man asked again and this time he was fully facing me. If I felt I was confused earlier then this particular question coupled with his beautiful face confused me the more and I wondered how he slept with so much beauty.
" I always go around with an EpiPen, my son's allergic to peanuts so it's quite a given that I go around with at least one, I'm even with one right now."
I explained as I pulled an EpiPen from my bag and waved it in front of them.
"Oh, that clarifies a lot." Orange guy said as he nodded at me.
" Have we met before?" Window man asked again and I replied a no by shaking my head.
"Do not you think you two owe her an apology for bombarding her with so many questions, and even me for not listening?"
Bonnie inquired with a 'I told you so' expression on her face. They were about to apologize when I we heard a rushed knock at the door and in came nanny Vidalia and a hyperventilating Claude in her arms. Every other thing that happened after that I couldn't tell, I don't know if I screamed or cried but I know I was at the other side of the room with my son in my arms.
"Shhhh, I am here, mummy's here, okay?, it is okay, everything is fine, mummy will not let anyone hurt you, okay baby?" I cooed as I rocked him in my arms, I don't know how long it took me to calm him down but when I realized he was fine, I was back on my chair beside Bonnie and nanny Vidalia was occupying the one orange boy had occupied earlier.
