Chapter 4
1. I wiped away my tears and left the booth.
Bryan and his friends had already left.
Rhonda, the manager, looked at me and shook her head, telling me not to come back tomorrow.
I nodded, calmly changing out of my clothes.
Bryan hated me, so naturally, he wouldn't let me off easily.
Over the past two years, I had constantly heard news about Bryan.
He had become a business tycoon, ruthless towards his enemies, showing no mercy.
So, with his deep-seated hatred for me, how could he possibly show me any leniency?
When I got home that night, my mom was still in the living room watching TV.
When she saw me, her eyes lit up, and she waved her hands, mumbling unintelligibly.
I forced a smile and went up to hug her.
"Mom, I'm back."
My gaze fell on the space where her right leg used to be.
A wave of invisible pain surged through my heart.
My mom could no longer speak, and she had lost a leg.
It was all because of that wretched man, my biological father.
I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms.
My phone lit up, reminding me that I needed to take my mom to the hospital this weekend.
I looked at my balance and took a deep breath.
I needed more money, I had to earn more.
The next day, I took my mom to the hospital.
My mom was gravely ill.
The doctor had advised many times for her to be hospitalized.
My mom refused, insisting that home treatment was just as effective.
I knew she was just trying to save money.
Sometimes, because of the pain, she would cry quietly under the covers.
Every time, I would cry silently in the next room.
This time, my mom refused the doctor again.
I looked out the window, hating myself for being so helpless.
Why couldn't I earn just a little more, just a little more money?
But it didn't matter, I would work harder.
Just a little harder...
