Chapter 4 Help me!!!

Max POV.

Excuse me!!!"

"Emergency!!!"

The loud feet of the doctors and nurses stamping on the tiles were all I could hear.

"Doctor! Is she gonna make it" my voice tremulous. Trepidation gripped me as though I were standing on the precipice of the unknown, peering into the abyss of uncertainty, my heart pounding like a drum in the silence of anticipation.

" She will be fine ok... just sit right there... Hey, nurse Joe attend to the deep cut on his leg."

The annoying sound of the electrocardiographic heart monitor was all I could hear.

The moment I realized that the package delivered to my house was from 'my mystery fellow' I ran back to my car before I could reach the apartment, the firefighters were already there putting off the fire from the explosion.

To my surprise, they weren't putting off the fire in our main building.

I ran out of my car, towards the site of the incident, and I met my brother Thomas Berkeley reporting to the local policemen.

According to him, the two dudes looked weird and dangerous, so he decided to check out the box against my instructions.

He found out the box was filled with C4 explosives, so he managed to defuse the bomb, but what he didn't know was that apart from the timer, the bomb had a fail-safe installed and it could also be detonated wirelessly.

He had moved the bomb to our empty old garage.

His mistake was not telling anyone of it,

my mom for some reason had gone near the garage when the explosion occurred.

"Are you the son of Mrs Stephany Berkeley?" The voice sounded familiar, jolting me out of my trance.

Looking up, it's the doctor in charge of my mom.

He wore a white lab coat with his stethoscope hanging off his neck.

I could see his name boldly written on his lab coat...Dr. Sam. N

"Yes, I am her first son," I said as my eyes went back to my mom who was now trying to lift her fingers slowly.

"Okay, then sign here...and here." He said pointing to two different places on the paper he gave to me.

"That would be all, your mom would be ready to be discharged by tomorrow morning." He said as he smiled gleefully exposing his perfect dentition.

Moments later...

Am at the bathroom of the hospital building.

I turned the doorknob, it was locked from the inside, I could hear the voice of two people, probably a boy and a girl smooching around.

The thought alone brought back the sweet romantic moments I had with Josephine. I could practically taste the nostalgia in the air, as if our laughter, shared secrets, and stolen kisses were lingering in the corners of my mind, waiting to be relieved in the tapestry of my memories.

I couldn't believe I would never see my Josephine again. The realization of this sends shivers down my spine.

Those once beautiful memories have become a deep cut to my soul, one that only she can heal.

My life is such a mess, if I had known I wouldn't have picked up that call that very day.

I hit my hand on the ceramic sink and it shattered to the ground, sending a disturbing sound that caused the two weirdos smooching in the other room to shudder in shock.

Just then the door flings open revealing the two dudes that had joined in on me with 'my mystery fellow' earlier.

I gazed at them tightly as they made their way towards me, the other one had a club and was continuously hitting it on his palm.

"Hey dudes... we can settle this amicably."

I say, my fist clenched, my eyes on the more muscular guy.

Without another word, I attacked the more muscular guy first with a blow that sent him off his feet.

Before I could turn the other guy who I underestimated landed the club at my back, sending jolts of pain down my spine and into my legs. My muscles tensed, and I struggled to maintain my balance as the searing discomfort radiated through my entire body.

Before I could readjust myself, the muscular guy landed me a knockout punch straight to my temple.

Moments later...

I could hear faint voices around me, my eyes were still dizzy, and I hadn't yet recovered from the blow.

I slowly regain consciousness, and the world around me begins to come into focus.

The faint voices I heard grew closer, though they were distant and muffled.

My head throbs with pain from the blow I received, making it hard to process what is happening.

I tried to move but my body felt heavy and sluggish.

"Where the heck am I?"

Opening my eyes, I looked around and I was still in the hospital. I tried to move my hand only to realize I had been chained to the metal handle of the sink.

Looking on the floor, I shudder backwards as what I saw on the floor sends shivers up and down my spine.

"Max! This is just the beginning of your sorrows."

I couldn't believe my eyes.

What have I gotten myself into?

This wasn't the deal... The plan was that I do the job and he lets Josephine Oniels stay safe.... everything is backfiring on me.

Looking at my wrist, I managed to lose the chain cuffs and made my way to my mom's ward.

Looking through the glass, I could see my mom smiling gleefully.

The doctor was inside, two nurses were with him. One of them looked like Josephine.

In my bid to save her, I had handed her over to the devil himself.

I can't get myself to forgive me, as I screeched my back on the glass window and squatted at the base of it sobbing uncontrollably.

The thoughts of losing her flow through my mind like a haunting melody, a bittersweet symphony that echoes through every corner of my heart, reminding me of the profound love and longing that fills my soul.

But the good news is my mom is now ok, the doctor said she can be discharged by tomorrow.

Just when I thought I could have peace of mind, I received news that sent ripples through the tranquil waters of my life, stirring up emotions that I have been trying hard to bury.

My phone vibrated on my hand and I stared at the message from a number that hadn't called me in months.

"Help me!!!."
