Chapter 5 Emotional turmoil

Dara couldn't shake off the feeling of unease as she watched Demilade and Alexis leave the room. What was going on between them? And what did Demilade plan to do with her and their child?

As she waited for answers, Dara heard a knock on the door. It was Alexis , with a smiley expression on her face.

" Don't worry, nothing happened, it was just boss being possessive of his woman".

Dara raised an eyebrow, unsure of what to make of Alexis's words. "His woman?" she repeated, her voice laced with skepticism. "You mean me?, he hates me"

" you think so? boss his far from that, he's just confused. I remembered how he called Mrs. adesola every second to to check on you and beside you are better than his rude fiancée"

Dara's eyes widened in surprise. "He's been checking on me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Alexis nodded. "Yes, he has. He's been asking about your well-being, what you've been eating, how you're feeling... everything."

Dara's mind was reeling. She had no idea Demilade was paying so much attention to her. She thought he barely tolerated her presence.

"And what about his fiancée?" Dara asked, curiosity getting the better of her. "You said I'm better than her?"

Alexis rolled his eyes. "Nadia is a piece of work. She's rude, entitled, and only cares about herself. You, on the other hand, are kind, gentle, and caring. You are just so natural"

Alexis chuckled. "You'd be surprised, Dara. Demilade is drawn to you in ways he can't even understand himself. And I think it's because you're the opposite of Nadia. You're genuine, sincere, and you don't play games."

Dara shook her head, feeling a mix of emotions. "I doubt he'll ever feel that way about me," she said, trying to sound convincing.

Alexis leaned in closer, his voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "That's just it, Dara. He's trying to convince himself he doesn't want you, but his actions say otherwise. And I think it's because he's scared of his feelings for you."

Dara's heart skipped a beat at Alexis's words. Could it be true? Was Demilade really struggling with his feelings for her?

Just then, the door opened and Demilade walked in, his eyes narrowing as he took in the scene before him. "What's going on here?" he asked, his voice low and even.

Alexis smiled innocently. "Just chatting with Dara, boss. Nothing to worry about."

Demilade's eyes lingered on Dara, and for a moment, she thought she saw something flicker in their depths. But then, his expression hardened, and he turned away. "I need to speak with you, Alexis. Now."

As Alexis stepped out with Demilade, she couldn't help but think about the new revelation. Her mind whirled with thoughts and emotions until sleep finally drifted her away.

The sound of a lady's voice woke her up. She got curious and stepped outside to investigate.

As she stepped outside, she saw a woman she had never seen before. The woman was tall, with long, curly hair and a designer handbag slung over her shoulder. She looked like she belonged on the cover of a magazine.

"Who are you?" Dara asked, feeling a sense of unease.

The woman turned to her, a smile plastered on her face. "I'm Nadia, Demilade's fiancée," she said, her voice dripping with condescension. "And you are...?"

Dara felt a surge of anxiety. She had heard so much about Nadia, none of it good. "I'm Dara," she replied, trying to sound calm.

Nadia's eyes narrowed. "Ah, the mistress," she said, her voice laced with venom. "I've heard a lot about you."

Dara felt a sting from Nadia's words, but she refused to back down. "And I've heard a lot about you," she replied, standing her ground.

Nadia laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "I'm sure you have," she said. "But let me tell you something, You are just a plaything to damilade, Infact a surrogate to our baby. I'm the one who's going to marry Demilade, not you. You're just a temporary distraction. HIS BREEDING MACHINE"

Dara's eyes flashed with hurt at Nadia's words. "How dare you," she spat, her voice low and even. "You know nothing about me or my relationship with Demilade."

Nadia sneered at her. "Oh, I know all about you," she said. "You're just a poor, prostitute who can't even take care of herself. Demilade is only using you for his own convenience. You're just a breeding machine to him, a means to an end."

Dara felt a surge of rage at Nadia's words, but she refused to let her get under her skin. "You're just jealous," she said, her voice calm and collected. "Jealous that Demilade is having a baby with me and not with you."

Nadia's face twisted with anger, and she raised her hand to slap Dara again. But before she could, Demilade appeared out of nowhere, his eyes blazing with fury. "Nadia, that's enough," he thundered, grabbing Nadia's wrist.

Nadia struggled against his grip, but Demilade held firm. "You will not touch her again," he growled. "Do you understand?"

Nadia's face was red with rage, but she nodded, her eyes flashing with resentment. Demilade released her wrist, and she stormed off, leaving Dara shaken.

Demilade turned to Dara, his eyes softening. "I warned you about coming out from your room didn't I?" he asked, his voice far from gentle.

Dara nodded, still feeling the sting of Nadia's words. "You did," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Demilade's eyes lingered on her, and for a moment, Dara thought she saw something flicker in their depths. But then, his expression hardened, and he turned away. "Good," he said. "Then you should have listened."

Dara felt a surge of anger at his words. "You're not exactly in a position to lecture me, Demilade," she said, her voice firm. "You're the one who's been keeping secrets from me, who's been lying to me."

Demilade turned back to her, his eyes flashing with anger. "I've done what I had to do to protect you," he said. "And I'll continue to do so, no matter what."

Dara shook her head, feeling a mix of emotions. "I don't know what to believe anymore," she said. "I don't know what's real and what's not."

Demilade's expression softened, and he took a step closer to her. "you don't need to know what real or not, just stay in your roomand mind your damned business," he said

Dara's eyes widened in shock at Demilade's words. "How dare you," she spat, her voice low and even. "You're telling me to just stay in my room and mind my own business? After everything you've put me through?"

Demilade's expression hardened, and he took another step closer to her. " you Will obey my order and nothing else" he said, a note of finality

Dara's face burned with anger and humiliation. "You can't be serious," she said, her voice shaking with rage. "You're treating me like a prisoner, like a slave. I won't stand for it."

Demilade's eyes flashed with anger, and he reached out to grab her arm. "You will do as I say," he growled. "You will stay in your room and mind your own business. Or else."

Dara pulled her arm away, her heart racing with fear. "Or else what?" she spat. "You'll lock me up? You'll hurt me? You'll take away my child?"

Demilade's expression softened, and he looked away, his jaw clenched in frustration. "just got to your room."he said walk out on her

Dara's eyes welled up with tears as she watched Demilade walk away. She felt a mix of emotions: anger, hurt, and fear. How could he treat her like this? How could he be so cruel and heartless?

She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She needed to think clearly and figure out what to do next.

As she turned to go back to her room, she heard a faint noise behind her. She turned around and saw Alexis standing there, a look of concern on his face.

"Hey preggie ,you okay?" he asked, walking towards her.

Dara nodded, trying to hold back her tears. "I'm fine," she said, her voice shaking.

Alexis looked at her skeptically. "No, you're not," he said. "What happened?"

Dara sighed. "It's nothing, just Demilade being his usual controlling self."

Alexis raised an eyebrow. "Ahh, I'm sure he'll come around to apologize, he's just frustrated. Now come on, let's do something fun. Pregnant ladies shouldn't cry," he said with a smile, trying to cheer her up.

Dara couldn't help but laugh at Alexis's attempt to lift her spirits. "You're right," she said, wiping away her tears. "I'm not going to let him get to me."

Alexis grinned. "That's the spirit! Now, how about we get some ice cream? I heard they have a new flavor that's perfect for pregnant ladies."

Dara's face lit up. "That sounds amazing. Let's go!"

As they walked out of the room, Dara felt a sense of gratitude towards Alexis. He was always there for her, trying to make her feel better. She didn't know what she would do without him.
