Chapter 5 Who could it be

"I'll be going back to see the doctor in a few days, you don't have to worry, I'm okay"...Emma explained to Ethan on the phone since she didn't utter a word to him when he was driving her home. "It wouldn't be bad if you let me go with you"...Ethan asked, rolling up his eyes and picking his hair, like one talking to his crush. "Is there anything I can help you do?"...Ethan asked, looking for a way to discuss further with Emma. "Nah, I just satisfied my cravings, I'm all good"...she answered. "Alright, if there's anything you need, you know I could be of help.

Do take care of yourself"...Ethan said.

It's already the weekend and Emma has been acting to be okay to everyone else, knowing to herself that she's not okay. "I can't wait to get my test result" she talked to herself while rushing out of the bathroom just to run into her mum. "Are you expecting a test result??" Emma's mum asked while she stretched out her hand to feel her temperature. "Emma, is everything okay with you?.. you've been acting quite strange lately" she asked. "Oh, well I felt uneasy the last time I went clubbing with my colleague so I visited the hospital, but not to worry, I'm feeling better now...". "But you just said you can't wait for your test result, how do you feel?" Emma's mum (Mrs Steven) asked her without letting her finish her explanation. "I'll explain to you when I'm back mum, I'm running late to work" she banged her door, hurriedly dressed up and left straight to the càfe.

The atmosphere looked so chill, the moon has not totally set, so there's no sunrise yet. The Number of vehicles was not that much because most people are not going to work on weekends. Since the traffic is fluent, it helped most of the workers to arrive at the càfe before Emma.

"F*ck! I just came in late again" Emma was talking to herself, faced down and was about to open the glass door when she ran into Mr Oliver. "I thought you weren't coming today? Are you getting any better? Mr Oliver asked. "I can manage myself sir, you don't have to worry about me" she replied, walking straight to her office. Iris had sighted her earlier walking towards her office but waited for Mr Oliver to go his way. Like a thief avoiding to hit her leg against an object, Iris walked cunningly to Emma's office, looking sideways to see if any of her colleagues saw her leaving her assigned position. "Baam! Iris jammed Emma's door. "Iris! Are you okay?? You literally startled me! Why would you bang the door like that? Are you a thief or some..."C'mon Emma, I didn't bang it that hard, something must be disturbing your mind for you to be startled over a little noise like that" Iris cut Emma short. "Should I get you a cup of coffee?"... Iris asked Emma. "Won't be bad if you do," she replied.

"What are you up to? You sneaked into my office like you didn't want someone to see you, did you commit a crime already?" Emma didn't hesitate to ask Iris immediately she came back with the cup of coffee. "Do you enjoy accusing me of a crime or something? Anyway, are you free tonight? Can we gist over some drinks?...Iris cut in. "You've been looking down these days like you have a huge burden, and I'm trying to carry it with you" Iris insisted again while looking at Emma eyeball to eyeball. "I don't need a drink to feel better, I'm feeling so weak and sick, I guess I need some drugs but I'm waiting on my doctor to call for a feedback , so you don't have to worry about me" Emma replied trying to make Iris even more comfortable than she is. She feels the most uncomfortable seeing someone else bothered about her.

It's almost time for their shift. Emma began packing to leave just when her phone began to vibrate and her ringtone increased gradually. Who could it be? Emma does not have any friends. Except for her colleagues, Mr Oliver her boss, and Ethan who to her is forcefully trying to fit in. But anyway, who could be calling Emma? She picked up her phone from the drawer, where she safeguards the càfe's ledger book. "Hello, this is Doctor Steven from..." "Oh! Doctor, I've been waiting on your call"...Emma couldn't wait for him to complete his introduction.

"Is this Miss Emma on the line? Your results are ready ma'am" the doctor said without a single crack in his voice. "Okay, I'll be there right away," Emma replied immediately. Still putting her things together just to make sure she doesn't forget anything. "Why do I keep feeling too dizzy?" ...Emma slapped her face and kept soliloquizing. "She rushed to the restroom and began to throw up. She even feels worse with time. But what do we expect when she's not sure of what is wrong with her and she's not on medication yet? She quietly cleaned up her mess and left for her office like nothing happened. "See Emma, wait with me, my man will soon be here to pick us up. You can't be leaving like this all by yourself" Iris insisted. Iris has always looked out for Emma since she's her best friend. She has been monitoring Emma's steps in the càfe to make sure she doesn't run out of help. Seeing that her condition is only getting worse, she called her boyfriend to come pick them up. It's time for shifts, Mr Oliver came out of his office to see what the càfe's atmosphere looked like, just when he sighted Emma and Iris together and walked up to them. "Is there a problem here?" He questioned. "Sir, Emma's temperature seems to be off from normal, I think we need to visit the hospital" Iris picked up the question even before Mr Oliver could finish asking. "Then go ahead, I guess it's time for your shift already?" Mr Oliver responded and walked out. "Iris, I got a call earlier. I don't think I can wait with you, I'll leave for the hospital myself, you don't have to worry" Emma said, trying to sound reassuring. Her phone began to vibrate again, it's the same number that called not long ago. She left Iris on the spot and hurriedly left for the hospital. "I hope the result is not that bad, why is the doctor calling like he's desperate?" She kept asking herself on her way to the hospital.
