Katherine walked out of a company where she had just been interviewed and she sighed, hoping against hope that she was given the job.
It's been a week now and she hasn't found a job to replace the one she lost.
Her stomach made some noise and she groaned.
Hell, she was hungry. Katherine stood by the road side and waited for a cab to pass. She had called the mechanic last week for a repair of her car and they still haven't returned her car.
So for now, she just still had to keep hailing cabs. Finally, a cab approached her and she hailed it. The cab man pulled over and Katherine grabbed the door open, hopping in and she told him to take her to a nearby restaurant.
The cab man pulled over at a restaurant and Katherine advanced a few cash to him as she alighted the car.
She walked into the restaurant and approached a table.
She reached into her bag collecting her phone from it.
She unlocked it and tapped on her contact app. Katherine clicked on a contact and placed the phone to her ear, listening to it ring.
" Hi, boo. " A feminine voice said from the other end.
" Hey, Valerie. What's up? " Katherine said.
" I am fine, hon. How are you? "
" I am good. You wanna hang out? " Katherine asked.
" Sure. Should I come over? " Valerie asked.
" No. I am not home. I'm at a restaurant. I will send you the address. "
" Alright. See you soon. " And the call went off.
Katherine asked for the menu and it was brought to her. She opened it and roamed her eyes on the numerous meals displayed in the book.
She twists her lips, contemplating on which to go for. She finally had a choice and called the waiter, placing her order and a drink for her friend.
In no time, the waiter brought her order and Katherine began to eat.
The door chimed, signifying someone walked in and Katherine smiled, seeing her best friend.
She raised her hand, waving it gently and when Valerie's gaze caught her's, she smiled, approaching Katherine's table.
" Hey. " Katherine said, watching her seat.
" Hey, boo. This for me? " Valerie asked, picking up the glass of champagne as a
Katherine took a scoop of her meal.
" Yeah. I wasn't sure if you had taken lunch, " She said in between much.
" Actually, I have. " Valerie affirmed and Katherine smiled, grabbing her glass and taking a sip of her drink.
" So... what's up? " Valerie said and Katherine sighed.
" It's been hard, babes. I haven't found a job. " Katherine said.
" I am sorry, boo. " Valerie said in sympathy.
" Thanks. " Katherine muttered
" Anyways, I love how you dealt with that jerk who caused all this. " Valerie said and Katherine chuckled
" I just really hope I get the job. I am really sick of staying home. "
" I know, right? But you know you really don't have to look for a job when a golden opportunity is waiting for you at home. "
" No, Valerie. Don't go there. " Katherine said.
" Oh, common. Katherine. We have to talk about it at some point. "
" Well, there's nothing to talk about, okay? I am not going back there. Period! " Katherine snapped and Valerie sighed.
" Fine. Sorry, I brought it up. " Valerie said.
" Hey. I am sorry I snapped, okay? I know you are only looking out for me but my mind is made up. "
" Yeah. Whatever you say. " Valerie said, taking a sip from her drink while Katherine continued on her food.
Valerie's phone chimed, signifying a message. She picked it up and her eyes widened.
" Shoot! " Valerie said, her gaze fixated on her phone.
" What's wrong? " Katherine asked.
" I can't believe I totally forgot. " Valerie said, dipping her phone into her bag and she stood to her feet.
" Forgot what? " Katherine asked.
" I am sorry, babes. I gotta run. "
" Why? What's the rush? "
" I've got a date to catch. " Valerie said.
" Really? You are just going to leave me here? " Katherine said and Valerie pouts her lips.
" I am sorry. Bye, boo. " She blew her a kiss and Katherine watched her friend leave.
" Unbelievable. " Katherine murmured, grabbing her drink and taking a swift gulp and she continued with her meal.
As soon as Katherine was done eating, She gestured to the waiter and asked for her bills.
She advanced some cash to the guy who smiled and cleaned up her table.
Katherine grabbed her bag and stood up.
She unlocked her phone as she started towards the exit.
Her gaze was solely fixated to her phone as she was trying to see if she got any message.
Before she knew it, she bumped into someone, causing her phone to fall.
" Oh my god! " She shrieked and a hand bent down to pick it up. The guy straightened up and thier gaze met and Katherine blinked rapidly.
Scott McCall?
" You... Again. " He said.
" Me... again. " Katherine said, snatching her phone from his hand.
" You are really clumsy aren't you? " He asked, dipping a hand into his pocket and Katherine frowned at the smirk on his face.
She returned her gaze to her phone, checking if there was any damage.
" I could get you a new one if it's damaged. " He said and she looked at him.
" Not that I am saying you can't afford it. You know, I just don't want to seem like a self- conceited arrogant and rude jerk. " He added and Katherine rolled her eyes.
" Thanks for the offer but unlike you, I know how to own up to my own faults. I am sorry for bumping into you. " She said, dipping her phone in her bag.
Scott pursed his lips.
" You aren't stalking me, are you? " He finally said and Katherine scoffed.
" You wish. "
" Then how do you explain this? "
" Just call in an unfortunate coincidence, alright? "
" Except three is no coincidence. "
" Well, that's none of my busin - "
" Scott? " A feminine voice called, cutting Katherine off and Scott brows creased as he gently turned on his heel.
His eyes widened when his gaze met with the lady standing far away from him.
" Kelly? " He called back and the lady smiled, approaching him. She halted when she was just an inch away.
" Wow. I thought I might have been mistaken but there is no way I wouldn't recognize you. " Kelly said.
" What the hell are you doing here? " Scott asked
" What do you mean? Am I not allowed in here? " Kelly asked back.
Katherine glanced at Scott's hand which clenched into tight fists and at the lady who had a silly grin on.
Okay. That's her cue to leave. She thought.
" Uh... I am just gonna go. " Katherine said, making to leave.
" No, babe. You don't have to. " Scott said, pulling Katherine to his side as he let his hand rest on her waist and Katherine stared wide eyed at him.
